She saw him smile “Great….” She saw he was distracted by his console "Oh, and it looks like we have a briefing this morning." ~what a way to stuff up a bit of leave~ "If you'll excuse me, I'll have a few items to get in order before then.” Jo nodded as she saw Palmer head for the turbolift. “Not a problem.” "We should both have a good grasp on our workloads by this afternoon. I'll touch base then." Jo smiled to him as he went. “Not a problem. See you then.” She turned back to her console and glared at the latest scan results as she tried to get it sorted. (Reply Palmer, any) (Posted by Robbie) ====================================================================== Mission: Stone Skipping Day: 3 Stardate: 2414.11.03 (Starbase Geneva – Observation Lounge – CMO, Cmdr Andrew Williams - 10:00) “Ladies and Gentlemen. My name is Aleese Akess and I would like to welcome you to the inauguration of the Hazardous Support Flotilla. The fleet has been together for a few months running simulations and getting the feel of working together but this is when the real work begins. The Hazardous Support Flotilla is a part of the Rapid Response Mobile Emergency Deployment Unit of the Albatross Organization which is attached to the 52nd Fleet as an auxiliary unit as part of Starfleet Medical Long Range Medical Disaster Planning Initiative.” Andrew looked at Akess who like everyone else was wearing dress uniforms or formal wear standing on an elevated platform in front of the gather audience. The room was packed with dignitaries and important people with Akess at the far end giving her presentation and a long window stretching across the one length of the room. Out through the windows he could see the ships of the Hazardous Support Flotilla parked up in close formation. His eyes moved back to Akess. ~She looks so young~ He knew from what Jay had told him that Akess was an El-Aurian and about 495 years old but even with this knowledge looking at her addressing the gathered guests she still looked like some ones sibling playing at being an officer. “The Hazardous Support Flotilla is comprised around a core facility which is the Mobile Repair Dock Lily Sloane.” She indicated to a large screen which took up most of the far wall as an image of a massive Juggernaut class Mobile Repair Dock appeared. “She is our mobile base of operations as well as a repair base for the rest of the flotilla.” The image changed to show a small craft with a four nassels attached to a circular hull. “This is the SS Road Runner our Emergency Medical Rapid Response Vessel whose primary mission is to be an on the spot response to any medical catastrophe. It has the capacity to do preliminary survey and analysis which is then sent back to the Lily Sloane and to our Submersible Search and Rescue Vessel USS Serenity.” The image changed again to a long tubular space ship which resembled a submarines rather then anything that might go through space. “The USS Serenity is a combined project between Federation Naval Patrol, Star Fleet, Pacifica Submersible Research Institute and the Albatross Organization. The crew is comprised from all four organizations. The image changed again to a merchantmen. “The SS Free Booster is our Rapid Logistics Transport is has a substantial heavy lift capacity along with long duration flight time to be able to get resources and equipment where we need it fast.” Andrew’s concentration was pulled from what Akess was saying as he felt some one move up behind him. A soft husky feminine voice breathed into his ear. “So sailor do you want to see my ship.” Andrew smiled as he recognized the voice. He turned to see Jay looking stunning in her dress uniform with her commander pips standing in front of him. She was his oldest friend. They had first met at the academy where they were roommates as well as the butt of her good humored practical jokes. Some sort of clerical error and had been close friends ever since. She returned his smile as she indicated her head to the door at the far end of the room. He followed her out of the Observation Lounge and into the corridor beyond. As the doors closed she gave him a big hug. Then then stepped back eyeing him critically. “You know! You really need to keep off the caffeine and do some more exercise.” Andrew rolled his eyes as they began to walk down the corridor. “What! Are you my personal physician now?” She gave him another grin and laughed “I bet you would like that but this is hardly the time to play doctors and nurses.” He bit off the half muttered cursed as the other people in the corridor gave them side long glanced which was exactly the reason Jay had said it. She gave him a sad look and patted his hand gently. “I am sorry Andrew I can’t marry you. I am already taken by some else.” Andrew sighed and gave a slight grin. “I know she’s 300 meters long, and looks like a flying submarine. Who could ever compete with the Serenity.” She looked over at him again. “Yep and she’s all mine. Come on I’ll show you around.” (Reply none) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Serenity – Bridge – CMO, Cmdr Andrew Williams - 11:30) “And here is the bridge.” Andrew followed jay into the bridge of the Serenity. She had taken him away and given him the tour of her ship. As the ship was in dock it was running of a skeleton crew which meant that there was only a couple of crewmen standing watch as they entered. He could see by the way Jay spoke about her ship she was very proud of her as any captain would be of their vessel. She had given him the quick version when he had visited last time but it was nice to see the Serenity in her fool glory. He was impressed the designers had really put a lot of new design features in to her which was not surprising as she was the test bed for the fleet. For the search and rescue mission she was designed for they had really packed in a lot of different design feature. A sickbay with a large stasis capacity for large casualties, dedicated large scale docking collars around the ship for rapid movement of the trauma response teams which was part of the sickbay contingent. He pulled his thoughts pack to where he was a he looked around the bridge. It was in the center of the hull compared to more modern conceptual designs which placed them at the top of the ship. He guessed that this came from the Federation Naval Patrol and the Pacifica Submersible Research Institute design influence. The bridge had large wrap around view screen which covered all of the front wall and most off the ones on either side giving the view and 180 degree view of the outside world. It also came across part of the floor so that he could see what was below him. The command console jutted out at the front of the bridge giving the commanding officer and uninterrupted view of what was happening on his ship. Behind was two seated console with two more sets of seated consoles placed at the back of the bridge facing inwards. The things that caught his attention was a chair in the middle of the bridge. It was different from the others, it was suspended from the sealing with white ergonomically designed pads and a retracted shell like helmet attach to the head rest. It was obviously alien in origin and he suddenly realized what it was. ~Ow my god. So this is it~ He stepped forward and ran his fingers along its aliens design. ~So this is the chair~ He had an idea what had happened but had managed to put it together after talking to his sister Audery after the experience. ~It’s the Sabiit’s interface chair~ The Sabiit had been an alien space ship which Audery was forced against her will to interface with the ships powerful artificial intelligence but the melding of an alien mind to the Sabiite’s system made a unique combination of human and machine. From what he understood in a normal pilots and machine joining the mind of the machine would be the dominate one and the pilot’s conciseness would absorbed into it. In the case of Audrey the reverse happened. She became to dominate mind which meant that she was able to keep her conciseness intact and be able to compartmentalize the Sabiite’s massive amount of data which it had acquired over its time as an exploration vessel. From what Jay had told him she had been saved by the Serenity and then saved them in turn by connecting herself into the ships computer and becoming its pilot. “Andrew are you okay.” He turned looking at Jay. “Umm yeh sorry I am fine.” His eyes looked back at the chair before he stepped away and moved across the bridge and stood by the command console. “You don’t have a chair. Does that mean that you have to stand all your shift?” Jay nodded “Yeh it’s a new adaptation they think it’s good for command flow if I am able to move around freely and not confined to a chair.” She grinned “But I have reduced my gym work out so it must be good for something.” Andrew made a half conscious nod as his eyes drifted back to the chair. “Do you want to see her?” Jay asked quietly. Andrew looked back at her and nodded. “I tried to contact her when we arrived but she has been ignoring my calls.” Jay gave him sad smile as she ushered him towards the turbolift. “She’s recovering from the last mission. It takes lot out of her when she is plugged in and she gets horrendous migraine for a few days afterwards so I would not be too worried.” The turbolift doors closed. “But just to warn you. She is not totally the same person you know before she is slightly different every time she unplugs. So just prepare for some changes.” Andrew nodded and they rode the tubolift in silence. (Reply none) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Serenity – Audrey Williams Personal Quarters – CMO, Cmdr Andrew Williams - 11:50) The door swished open and Andrew stepped into the dark room. He stood there in the dark waiting for his eyes to become accustomed to the little star light that came thought the window. He noticed a person shaped bulge in the bed move. “What do you want? It better be good?” He paused for a moment before speaking. “Hay Sis.” There was a pause for a second for two. “Hay little brother. What are you doing in my quarters? I will have to speak to Jay about letting anyone in.” “Um thanks for that. It’s good to see you to.” There was a groan from the bed. “No its not. I look like hell and feel a lot worse. I have the Marine Corps band in my head playing out of tune and out of time. I feel like a shuttle has landed on me and the sound of my own heart beat is giving me a headache.” He moved closer and sat on the bed next to Audrey. “So you are feeling fine then.” “I would punch you if it did not take some much effort.” “Can I get you anything?” “A new head to go with the new body I want.” Andrew smiled. “I’ll see what I can do.” He saw her head move as she looked up at him. She looked awful. She was sweating and her hear was plastered across her face. “I looked beautiful don’t I?” “Yes sis you look stunning.” She groaned and tried to reach him with her hand but gave up. “What you doing here. Why you not prancing around on your spy ship?” He grinned. His sister was a starfleet intelligence agent and probably new a lot of things what was generally going on than most people. “We are back for a refit and some leave. I have been trying to contact you for the last few days.” “Ow once I disconnect I need a few days on my own to deal with this migraine. I should be fine in a few more hours.” There was a pause before carrying on. “The doc said it should get better over time.” “Would it help if you connected for shorter times?” “That’s what the Doc thinks but Andrew it’s amazing. When I am connected to Serenity, I am her and she is me. We are as one. I can ‘see’ through her senses. I can feel the pulsing of her warp core in my heart. As we came in I felt the heat of the sun on my hull it was like I was really there in deep space.” Andrew frowned. “Don’t lose yourself in there Sis I need you here in your own body.” She gave a slow nod. “I know Andrew but I feel more alive and whole when I am with her. When I disconnect it’s like someone has torn my heart out.” She gazed up at him and he could see something in her eyes a cross between love and addiction. “It’s not like I can get away from her. I am now liked to the chair and then chair is linked to Serenity. I am her and she is me.” He saw that she had fallen asleep with a happy smile on her face. “Good bye sis. Sleep well I will see you later.” He kissed her on the fore head before quietly leaving the room. (Reply none) (Posted by Robbie) (StarBase Geneva – Officer Lounge – CMO, Cmdr Andrew Williams - 14:00) Andrew looked at the two woman sitting around the table with him a smiled. “What you smiling at Andrew?” Andrew is smile turned into a grin as he looked at Commander Alice Turner first officer of the Lily Sloane. “Just thinking it’s been a while since we have all managed to get together in one place and actually have a chat.” Jay who sitting beside Alice looked in mock concern. “Quick he’s getting misty eyed look. Change the topic or we will be here all day.” Andrew rolled his eyes. “Ow shut up Jay.” “I think that’s ow shut up Jay sir.” Andrew signed. “OW come on. Just because you made commander before me and have two warp capable commands don’t mean you can order me about.” A wicked grin crossed Jay’s face. “Ow you better believe it baby. Starfleet regulations says I can and I will.” Alice’s laugh cut through the discussion. “You two just don’t grow up.” Andrew smiled. “Really I seem to remember cadet’s Jay and Turner getting the most likely to cause an interstellar incident award when we graduated.” Alice nodded. “Yep and look at me now. First office of a mobile repair dock.” “Always knew you were a grease monkey at heart.” She was about to reply when her comm badge beeped. “Commander Turner here.” =^=Sir this is Geneva Operations. I have been informed by Commander Osfeer that the Hazardous Support Flotilla are moving out and all commanding officer report to the Lily Sloane =^= There was a pause before Operations spoke again. =^=Sir from my display is Commander Jay with you=^= Andrew saw Turner glance over at Jay who was nodding. “Yeh she is Operations and she understood the message.” =^=Thanks commander operations out=^= There was a slight pause as people’s minds sped up to work mode. Andrew nodded to the others. It was a pity that they had only gotten a small time together but that was how things were some time. “We it’s been good to catch up with you both.” Turner and Jay looked at each other and Jay shrugged. “Andrew when do you have to be back?” Andrew paused for a moment. “We have a meeting around the 9th but apart from then I’m off duty.” Jay smiled. “Then I would like to offer you the hospitality of the Serenity for the next few days.” Andrew glanced over at her. “What if I have an emergency deployment?” She grinned as she stood up. “Don’t worry we’ll get you back to you ship in time. This is probably an exercise to show the big wigs what we can do.” Andrew nodded as he got up as well. “Then I will accept you invitation.” Jay nodded as they headed for the turbolift. “Good. We better not keep the boss waiting.” (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) =================================================================== Mission: Stone Skipping Day: 8 Stardate: 2414.11.08 (Starbase Geneva - Promenade - OPS, Ensign Will Alexander - 11:00) Will was in a good mood. Though he did think it was kind of weird to meet himself, it was cathartic, and made him feel better. Plus it allowed him to keep his commission, and become a recognized citizen of the federation. He was happily strolling down the promenade to get to the ship yard and return to the Spectre when a young attractive red headed ensign junior grade ran up to him. She was wearing the teal uniform of a science officer. "WILLIAM FROST!!!!" She shouted. "WHERE IN THE GALAXY HAVE YOU BEEN?" "Excuse me, do I know you?" Will replied meekishly. "Don't you dare give me that line." she said with a ticked off tone. "We dated for a year." "I'm sorry," Will said with his head down. He felt embarrassed and awkward. "Something happened recently, and I truly honestly don't know who you are." "Don't you dare, Will, don't you dare use that line with me. I'm Rebecca James. Your girlfriend, or I guess I should say ex girlfriend, although you technically didn't break up with me." "Umm what do you mean?" Will was feeling a little nervous over the encounter. She was mad at Frost, he wasn't Frost. "We graduated the academy, we got separate postings, you said we'd talk about what it meant for our relationship, you left for an advanced tactical training course before you started your assignment on the Spectre. I haven't spoken to you since then. I've called, written, you never answered. That was 4 months ago. After two months I gave. It was pretty clear you were done with me and wanted me out of your life." "Umm, Rebecca, I don't know what to say. Truly I am sorry, but I am not Will Frost. I look like Will Frost. But, I'm not." "What the hell does that mean?" There was a lot of anger in her tone. "It's hard to explain. About 8 days ago there was an accident on the Spectre. Will Frost was killed. He was transported to sick bay. Before his body could die, the Spectre transporter system integrated his pattern with that of a brain pattern copy that had been stored and hidden in the system due to a glitch. That same brain pattern that now is present in his body. My brain pattern. So I am sorry, but even though I am in his body, I am not Will Frost. He passed away on 2414.11.01. I'm sorry, but its the truth." She looked at him even more upset. "This sounds just as believable as the time when I caught you doing cage fights at nights in San Francisco that weren't completely legal. You told me it was your evil clone, but you and I both knew you where full of it. Still I forgave you. This, this though, we are definitely done for ever." "Wow, that really is a jerk move. I am sorry. But I am not lying. You can see for yourself." Will then showed her the PADD that contained Will Frost's death certificate, the Federation Document showing Will Frost Alexander as a new being. Doctor William's report on the matter, the chart showing the changed brain patterns. All evidence supporting Will's claim. Still she wasn't buying it. "Why you actually carry these fabrications around, I don't know. But, you are the worst!" She wound up and slapped Will hard across the face and then stormed off. ~Man,that was awkward. I need to do a better job of making sure people don't think I am Frost. Sounds like the guy needed to go to remedial Boyfriend class.~ (reply None) =================================================================== Mission: Stone Skipping Day: 9 Stardate: 2414.11.09 (USS Spectre - Ten Forward Lounge - OPS, Ens Will Alexander - 08:00) Will had been sitting silently at a table eating his breakfast. It was a simple breakfast, just a bagel with some cream cheese and a side of bacon. Will was a fan of bacon, and this was the first slice he had eaten since 2406. Well that really wasn't fair to say. His mind was a transporter duplicate of the real Will Alexander circa 2406. The mind hadn't experienced bacon. The body he inhabited was that of Will Frost, or was that of Will Frost. Looking at the replicator history, Frost ate bacon every morning, then spent an hour doing an intense workout in the gym to burn it off. Will was adjusting to his new body, his new life. Legally he was a new person, but sometimes he felt more like a chimera of sorts, a hodge podge. He was sorting out who he was. Well he was Will Alexander. The memories, the personality, that much was certain. But he was test driving the new body. He was more handsome, more muscular, more physically fit. Yet he had a body in which the muscle memory and the mental memory didn't sync. He spent many hours a day trying to figure it out. Many hours in the gym working out with his new body. He was stronger, he liked that part. Though looking out through a new set of eyes, looking in the mirror with a different face staring back. He would have to get used to that. He felt a little ostracised as well. The Spectre crew was still warming up to him, but to others he was an inteloper in there comrades body. It would take time to win them over. Those that served with the original Will Alexander where also a little taken aback. The easiest ones to talk to where those who had been on the Spectre back in 2406, on the day that he was copied and stored. It was weird. Andrew Williams was still the Chief Medical Officer, and now a commander. Captain Remae was now a Lieutenant and the FO, and the Original Will Alexander was a Captain, stationed on Geneva as it's JAG Commander. The world moved on, without him. Well that wasn't accurate. Moved on with the real Will, just not with this Will. Will sat reading an article on the biography of Thomas Riker, a transporter duplicate of William T. Riker, who had been First officer of the Enterprise when he encountered a perfect transporter duplicate. Will wasn't a perfect duplicate. Mentally yes, physically he was someone else. Not to mention he wasn't going to take Thomas Riker's path. He wasn't going to steal a starship and then spend the rest of his life in a Cardassian Penal Colony. Still, reading about the psychological struggles of being a duplicate, seeing someone else live the live you should have, was helpful. Yet Will knew that he didn't want to exactly be like the real Will. There were certain choices, a certain emphasis on being a career man, that deviated from who Will wanted to be. He had a chance to live his life again. A second chance. Though for this version, it was a first chance. He was happy to be alive. Unlike with Thomas Riker, there was no doubt who was a copy and who was the original. Captain Will Alexander was the real McCoy. Ensign Will Alexander was just a walking reminder of the dangers of messing around with transporters. Still he knew one day, he wouldn't be seen as a walking tombstone of Will Frost, or as a cautionary tale. He would be recognized and respected for who he was, William Frost Alexander. A wonderful story of making most of a second chance. So he sat eating his bacon, knowing he would honor Frost's dedication to fitness with a workout later, and hoped that sooner or later, the Spectre would warm up to him. He had been up half the night getting the medical reports sorted for their data dump into starfleets medical database. This also meant all the patients who had died during the mission. He always hated those. ~No one said that being a doctor would be fun all the time~ He picked up a steaming cup of caffeine from the replicator and sipped it as it pushed the sleep away along with his nightmares. ~One of these days I might actually get some proper sleep~ He sighed to himself as he caught the faint whiff of bacon and instantly felt his stomach rumbled. ~Ow that smells good~ He searched the room to find the origin of the bacon smell and saw Alexander sitting quietly eating. ~Better leave him to it~ He ordered his breakfast and was about to sit at anouther table when he changed his mind and stepped over to Alexander. “Will do you mind if I sit with you?” (Reply Alexander) (Reply Alexander, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Ten Forward Lounge - Ops, Ens Will Alexander - 08:07) “Will do you mind if I sit with you?” "Not at all," Will replied with a smile. His family, well the family of the original Will, was the family of the Original Will, the non copy. He didn't know how to approach them. ~Hey mom and dad, I am a transporter copy of your eldest son, in someone else's body.~ It didn't have a good ring to it. Didn't really hurt. One thing to say about Will Frost, dude is built like a rock. Err, I guess I am built like a rock." Will chuckled. (reply Williams) "Then I ran into a Ferengi fight promoter who knew Frost from back in his fighter days, wanted to set me up in a cage match. Said I could make a ton of latinum. I had to politely decline. I may have his body and muscle memory, but I wouldn't know the first thing about fighting beyond what we learn in the academy. He was upset, but since he was apparently afraid I'd beat him up, he let me go in peace." (reply Williams) "So to answer your question the long way, no I have no plans for exploring, as I am afraid of what I might encounter." (reply Williams) "To be honest, I might go later. To meet new people. I met what William Gonzalo Alexander became. I read his file. He became a career guy. He has no time for family. Just his work. That is all he cares about it seems. That wasn't who I set out to be when I was him. That wasn't my concerns. I was gonna be a family man, not a fleet man. The fleet was just going to provide that avenue." (reply Williams) "I have a second chance Doc. Cause I turned out, fine, but not who I wanted to be." I am afraid of running into people who knew Frost or went to the Academy with him, and have to go through the process of explaining that I am in fact not their friend, but rather a whole new person entirely, just that I am in his body." Andrew nodded. “Did you find that a problem?” "Actually, I did sort of run into an ex girlfriend of his, that was umm awkward, she was mad at him, cause he blew her off and then never called. I tried to explain that I wasn't him. She didn't buy it. Apparently he tried a similar stunt like this with an evil clone with her once. They may not be that willing to slap me if I am not alone, especially in front of a commander." (reply Williams) "Probably head over there in a couple hours, need to hit the gym first." (reply Williams) "I wish I could say me hitting them gym was because I wanted to, but something tells me, that Frost would kill me if I ate bacon in his body and didn't burn it off. Which I guess means I need to be a better steward of my body. Before this fiasco when I was me, and not the new me, I'd eat bacon and didn't feel guilty. But my body feels different now, like its not liking the fact I'm shoveling bacon into it. Makes me sad, in a way." (reply Williams) "I guess that makes sense. Hey, out of curiosity, since I'm kind of new to the ship in away. Why do you suppose we are be fitted as an interceptor?" They might increase weapon storage capacity as well as remove non-essential staff and equipment.” He shrugged. “But I guess we will find out when it’s finished.” (Reply Alexander) (Reply Alexander, any) (Posted by Robbie) ======================================================================== Mission: Stone Skipping Day: 10 Stardate: 2414.11.10 (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - FO/CEO, Remae Ktell – 10:10) The Senior Officers had settled into their chairs and after a quick report from the CO, the meeting was given over to the First Officer… Remae stood at the back wall next to a display showing an area of space, a course and a destination. “We’ve been ordered to investigate this Starbase…”, the screen altered to show the area of Starbase 39-Sierra, “Once there, we are to examine the condition of the crew.” “We’ve been told that the USS Tempest, is, at last report, under the command of one Sulia Madon. We’re going to find her as well. The scuttlebutt is that she is assembling a device known as the Messiah. What that is, we don’t know yet.”, he said the screen showed the alien protrusion. “This alien species has begun showing itself on the necks of infected people. Starfleet has begun scanning all ships, bases and installations and so far, its limited around that base.”, he said the viewscreen changing again. “The upgrades to the Spectre are complete, we’ve been given the speed to get to Starbase 39-Sierra before this can spread further and if we will attempt to put an end to it.”, he said the viewscreen coming to a close. “Doctor Williams, I want you to examine everything about the parasite… the entire history has been uploaded into the Medical Database… you will find the history records… interesting.”, he said looking at the CMO. Remae looked over at the CSO. "Mr Palmer, the Messiah is something we’re going to need to know more about. We’ll have a talk about that shortly.”, he said and looked around and then added, “Implement the parasite scanning technology to the Spectre… if anyone gets infected, we want to know at once.” He looked around once more. “Starfleet have given me command of this mission but not command of the Spectre, so we’ll depart as soon as the Captain is ready but you can expect the Spectre, while traveling at extreme speeds, to act differently that you are used to. This could mean power shortages, headaches, nausea or other unexpected events… prepare your departments accordingly.”, he said finishing his briefing. “Does anyone have any questions?”, he asked to the assembled group. (Reply from All) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge – CMO, Cmdr Andrew Williams – 10:20) “Doctor Williams, I want you to examine everything about the parasite… the entire history has been uploaded into the Medical Database… you will find the history records… interesting.” Andrew nodded. He had read all the information that T’Vhor had given him when they were searching for the Garallon. He would be interested to see what other information he would find in the uploaded data. From what he already knew was that the aliens were a nasty and insidious. If they did not stop the spread soon then it would take a long time to root out all the infected people. He pulled his mind back to the conversation as Ktell continued speaking. “Starfleet have given me command of this mission but not command of the Spectre, so we’ll depart as soon as the Captain is ready but you can expect the Spectre, while traveling at extreme speeds, to act differently that you are used to.
