Stardate: Roughly 5 and a half Years Previously (Ross Memorial Hospital – London – Perra Tolqu - 05:05) Perra felt the wind blow in her face, sending her long white dress flapping behind her, she veered left and right enjoying the sound the air made as it whizzed by, she felt her ears pop as she swerved and dived as she meandered through her own mind, her conscience flew in the cloud’s she enveloped all and all came to her, she knew everything and felt every strand on her web begin to form in her mind. Perra’s awareness let her know she was no longer alone, yet she already knew she had called forth the growing change, she could see black shadows of her wraith which flew by her blotting out the landscape behind them, she revelled in their anger, these growing storm clouds would soon blight out everything, soon only these emotions would exist inside her, she would no longer need use of her conscience for a while to come, soon she knew her flying form would be consumed and though she knew a part of her would die, she also willed it to her with a glee of a child opening their first Ornaran Dependence day present, in this semi-dormant state she began to see a plan, a plan of time and patience, a time to wait. ~ Perra laid back, sighing to the night sky, she gently rubbed the growing bump under her nightgown and tried to settle back into the wonderful dream she was having. Turning to look out of the infirmary window, she smiled to herself as she watched the stars glisten in the night, a thousand million twinkles all for her pleasure and grace, slowly turning her attention away from the dazzling skyline above she cooed to her Stomach. “Soon my lovely Kos you will be born, soon my little darling then mummy can truly begin her plans.” Silently she heard the steps of someone approaching, feigning sleep she quickly settled back into her pillow, Perra had been in this hospital for three days now, and had quickly learnt the routine patterns of the night nurses and passing security guards, this was an unscheduled call, she calmed her self and allowed her breathing to slow and become more regular, yet she felt every muscle in her body tense and ready for action. She feigned sleep and allowed her senses to take over. She had no need of her eyes now in the darkness every footstep betrayed her marks position, the information supplied to her was as she had come to expect from the Orion Syndicate perfect. His mistress was only two beds away and she was due at anytime. He was too high profile to be seen visiting her, and surely the scandal would be terrible not just for him, but for their contractor as well, the mark’s wife. As she almost felt him past, smelling his very essence as he passed by her bed, Perra slowly reached back and grabbed the device behind her pillow, aiming the small tube like device at the back of his body, she pressed the trigger on the side and the toxic dart fired into the back of his neck, without another word, the paralysing agent took immediate effect hitting so close to his main artery, he fell to the floor casuing no more than a silent thud. His mistress unbeknown continued to slumber. Perra silently slipped out of bed, removed the dart and quickly pulled out a small canister, spraying the back of the marks neck, immediately sealing the small hole covering any evidence, to any but the most ardent searcher this politician died of a heart attack, moving with speed back to her bed she silently grabbed her possesions and knelt back down next to the mark, pulling out a small communicator she silently pressed the button, knowing that within seconds they would be transported out of the hospital, and with a little more work, the poor minister would be found at his desk where he worked slumped over a tragic loss she was sure, as Perra smiled slyly to herself as she watched the patterned lights of the transporter surround them. Half the systems on the Dauntless were in shambles after the attack by what seamed to be the USS Spectre. The rumor going around the ship now was that it wasn't the Spectre after all, but another ship disguised as her. None the less the amount of damage by such a quick strike proved once again that even a Galaxy-class starship like the Dauntless is fragile with no shields up. Ensign Fala Taban had spent his time since the attack trying to put together his favorite place on the ship: Stellar Cartography. He could spend days there if given sufficient reason. It seemed to go by in a blink of an eye, but Taban was now on his seventh year on the Dauntless and she was a great ship. He didn't get back to his home world of Bajor very often, but the Dauntless was now his second home. After the Federation liberation of Bajor and the treaty with the Dominion was signed, Taban entered Starfleet Academy, impressed by the Starfleet officers which tried to defend his home world from the Dominion invasion. During the Civil War he served on the LoDona loyal USS Paladin which lead the attack to retake Betazed. Unfortunately the Paladin was lost in that conflict and Ensign Fala was transferred to Dauntless, where he had been ever since. Little did Taban know, this was actually the last few hours he would call the Dauntless home. Ensign Fala pressed the door chime to the Chief Science Officer's door and waited for the acknowledgement so that he could enter. The doors slid open and he came face-to-face with the CSO, Commander Yarus. "Ensign, have a seat," the Commander stated motioning to an empty chair before taking a seat himself. "I have some good news and some bad news." "Go ahead," responded the ensign. "You are being transfered to the Spectre," Yarus paused there in order to let it sink in. "Really?" asked Fala perplexed. "I really wasn't looking for..." "I understand," interrupted the CSO holding is hand up. "But, this is a desperate situation. There's a rogue ship out there that has the capability to mimic other ships. The Spectre needs science officers to help track this ship down." "So this is just a temporary assignment?" "I'm afraid not. After the attack on the Spectre by this ship and their crash landing on Vedea IV, they have some injured crewmen and they need replacements. This transfer is permanent. Look at this as an opportunity, Ensign. Honestly, your career was stalling out here. Eight years in Starfleet and you are still and Ensign. In some people's eyes, that doesn't look too good. This will allow you to have a fresh start." "Understood, sir," said Fala looking down at the ground. "When shall I report?" "Immediately," responded Yarus handing the Bajoran science officer a PADD with his transfer orders. "Gather your belongings and go ahead and beam on over. The Agamemnon will be arriving soon to continue relief efforts here while the Spectre continues the hunt for the rogue ship. She's scheduled to depart at 21:00, so no time for long good-byes. It's been a pleasure working with you." The commander extended his hand. Taban stared at the CSO's extended hand and reluctantly shook it as was Earth custom and walked away looking at the transfer orders on the PADD lost in thought and disbelief. (reply any, none) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - CEO, Lt H'Chir - 20:30) H'Chir was becoming annoyed again. It was a foregone conclusion of course, he always became annoyed when people took up his time and left him waiting whilst there was important work to do, and now was no different. His earlier tete a tete with Kirien had left him irritated anyway, even though he had eventually capitulated, albeit at the Captains orders, and returned to sickbay for more damned tests! Now it seemed that Kirien was just deliberately keeping him waiting! Why was it that women, whichever species they were, always did that? Was it something genetic built into them perhaps? A need to be in control maybe? Either way, from his very arrival back in sickbay, Kirien had been keen to show that despite rank or position, in sickbay she was in control. Why, even his face saving opening gambits of niceness and the somewhat dubious query as to whether she had missed him since he had departed against her wishes or not, had'nt gone down well. Was there no pleasing the woman? H'Chir frowned at the thought and exhaled heavily, then altering his expression to one of cheeriness, he began gesticulating his arm wildly in her direction where she appeared to be running something or other on a screen. More tests perhaps... "Room service!", he cried, "I say, room service please!" (Reply Kirien, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - CEO, Lt H'Chir - 20:47) H'Chir sat bolt upright on the biobed, his temper fraying just that little bit more now. At the Captain's insistance, he had returned to sickbay to go through the proper discharge protocol, as recommended by Kirien. Kirian however, either deliberately or otherwise, seemed to be ignoring him almost completely now, and the CEO's antennae were jesticulating wildly! "Oh this is just becoming ridiculous", he moaned, swinging his legs to the side and off of the biobed as he did so, "you're just prolonging this now because I made a scene earlier, I see no reason whatsoever for me not to return to duty, I have given my samples, taken your tests and you now have your results", he added, standing now beside the bed and then turning about. "I'm out of here, have the Captain send me my court martial documentation later. I have a phased cloak to get right", said H'Chir in a huff. He then made good his exit accordingly. As I’m sure tomorrow will be a busy day and we don't need you to work your self in to the ground.” Mitch looked up at Douwsy. He gave her a smile through the thin stubble on his face. She sounded like all nurses... they seemed to always push the doctors to take better care of themselves. In a way this was an unspoken arrangement between nurses and doctors that had existed since the professions came about. Mitch looked at the PADD in his hands, he sighed, “Yes, I guess I have been over doing it.” ~Can’t save the world tonight~ He entered the CMO’s office, put the PADD’s down and switched the lights off. "Thank you, good night Nurse." (Reply Douwsy, iyw) (Posted by Bobby) (USS Spectre - Sickbay – Nurse Douwsy - 23:39) "Thank you, good night Nurse." Douwsy smiled. "Good night Doctor." As she watched Huval leave sickbay. As the doors shut she looked at the chonomiter on the wall of sickbay. ~Going to be a long shift but as long as it is not to busy~ She leaned back in her chair and took a deep breath. "Computer, music, Galabins third Lament." A smile crossed her face as she closed her eyes and let the gental music flow over her. If he were honest with himself, which he oftimes was'nt, then he was'nt even sure why he was even here! The fact that he now was though said something, but that still didn't change the fact that the Andorian positively hated shrinks, indeed H'Chir positively hated anyone that played with the minds of others.... and that included telepaths! Taking a seat in the reception area though, he relaxed a little and took in the subdued shades of colour, no doubt designed by a shrink someplace in order to instill calm, and pleasant moods or to disarm angst ridden psyches. To H'Chir, it was all poppycock, how could one ever be an expert on the mind? A doctor of course was different, there were manuals written about anatomy and as such, it was an exact science. Psychology however was an entirely different matter altogether. Sitting there in the room though, H'Chir had begun to drift into a painting on the wall, his senses lulled almost into a sense of tranquility. It was in fact, rather pleasant. It did not last long though for from the edge of his perception, H'Chir was suddenly startled by the shrill voice of a female counsellor calling him forwards. "What", exclaimed the engineer, looking around now, just in case there was another in the room that she might have been speaking to! "Do you mean me?", he asked, pointing to himself. "Of course", said the counsellor, "If you're ready sir, please. Come this way", she said, stepping aside from the door aperture and then gesturing with her hand for him to enter. H'Chir frowned at the gesture for it conjured within him, the thought of a deady spider tempting it's prey to come closer, and H'Chir had had more than his fair share of deady spiders over the years. "Well, I'm not really supposed to be here", said H'Chir with a shrug, "actually, I think I'll go", he added standing up suddenly and then turning to move towards the door main door. "Well, you may if you wish of course", said the woman, "but I have a feeling you'll come back. Why not just stay now" H'Chir faltered slightly in his step, then he frowned again and pursed his lips tightly together. How did they do that? Counsellors. It was as though they could see someones true intent without even trying. She was right of course, he probably would come back sooner or later, proabbly sooner. H'Chir exhaled long and heavilly, then he raised an eyebrow, shrugged his shoulders and then resigned himself to the lure. "Well, perhaps for a few minutes, I have a ship in need of my tender loving hands and precious little time to sooth her wounds", said H'Chir, smiling for the first time since he'd actually entered the department. The Counsellor simply smiled back, her head slightly bowed as he passed and then entered the room, then she to, followed. NRPG: More to come... RPG: (Reply None) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - ACSO Teverine Tolqu - 09:35) The Captain looked up as Teverine and Sprak entered the room, T’Vhor looked immersed in his work, and Teverine knew with so much going on his Captain visibly looked like he was taking a stroll in an atrium rather than dealing with so much. “Gentlemen please take a seat “ “Thank you, sir.” (Reply Sprak) Teverine sat down next to Sprak on the other side of the table opposite T’Vhor. Teverine immediately leaned over and placed the PADD in front of T’Vhor before Sprak began talking. (Reply Sprak) Teverine listened patiently as Sprak laid out both plans and their merits and drawbacks, Teverine listened with keen interest, and true to his word Sprak never showed bias towards either plan and explained them both equally allowing the Captain to make his choice without influence. When he finished T’Vhor briefly looked at Teverine he felt his Captain’s eyes bore into him and shifted slightly uncomfortably. Teverine still had trouble being in the presence of his Captain, he only ever seemed to be reprimanded in his presence more than anything else, and Teverine felt acutely aware of this as the Captain took time to read through the PADD as he seemed to be working out the most logical choice to make. (Reply T’Vhor) (Posted by Peter Richards) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 09:47) The Captain settled back into his chair and pondered the solutions offered. Clearly, Sprak was more that au fais with the utilization of unconventional methodology in the detection of unconventional vessels. Their problem though was that of maintaining a certain level of inaction upon their arrival in the Sol sector, it would hardly be prudent to be deploying visible means of detection along their route as they entered, for that would just alert their foe and antagonize them. No, it would be far better to maintain an aire of passivity at first so the first and foremost plan in the Captain's mind was still to use the non invasive telepathic abilities of Isengard to 'sense' where that foe may lay. Sprak, Tolqu and Hightowers carefully layed down plan to use modified probes was an excellent one, but for now anyway it would be best deemed a contingency plan should Isengard fail to detect anything, or something to use to pinpoint the ETHOS ships location once Isengard had detected it's general whereabouts. "I commend you on this plan", said the Captain, "it is certainly very well thought out but I am concerned that the deployment of active means of detection immediately we arrive at Sol might adversely affect the situation. (Reply Sprak, Tolqu, Hightower, Any) "There is a plan currently in place to detect the ships general location, granted it will not pinpoint it precisely but for now anyway, I feel that it is our best first line option.... your plan will be best executed after our arrival and when suspicion is least likely to be raised by transitting probes or vessels", said the Captain. Teverine listened to the Captain, and thought, he knew the probes would certainly count as a detection, but using the deflectors would not, but the whole issue was then using another ship. "We could instead of launching probes leave them behind us sir, effectively we would be casting a net behind us." (Reply T'Vhor) "There is a plan currently in place to detect the ships general location, granted it will not pinpoint it precisely but for now anyway, I feel that it is our best first line option.... your plan will be best executed after our arrival and when suspicion is least likely to be raised by transitting probes or vessels", said the Captain. Sprak frowned, a confused look on his face. He looked at his new assistant and then back at the Captain. "There is a plan currently in place to detect the ships general location, granted it will not pinpoint it precisely but for now anyway, I feel that it is our best first line option.... your plan will be best executed after our arrival and when suspicion is least likely to be raised by transmitting probes or vessels", said the Captain. "If we knew the rough location of the targeted vessel, we could launch probes when told and that should pinpoint your vessel sir," Ensign Tolqu said. "I wasn't aware that we were performing a covert search," Sprak said, "I was under the impression that those on board the ETHOS ship knew we were looking for them. Won't they get suspicious if they arrive in system and don't see any active methods of trying to find them? I would think that would make them suspicious. Wouldn't it be more logical to employ multiple methods of detection? One overt and another covert." (Reply T'Vhor, Tolqu, Any) (Posted by Wes) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 09:52) The Captain's recommendation that covert means be the first line of detection of the ETHOS vessel, had seemingly struck a moot point with the CSO. Tolqu had immediately countered that with a suggestion of launching probes in their wake, thus backing up his superiors clear confusion on the matter, but the CO still felt that Isengard would initially be their best firstline option here. ".....Wouldn't it be more logical to employ multiple methods of detection? One overt and another covert?", asked the diminutive Science Chief. "Entirely illogical", said the Captain flatly, "what would be the point in implementing covert means if the fact that we were actively seeking this vessel was immediately broadcast by an overt scan?" (Reply Sprak, Tolqu Any) NRPG: Room for more discussion here... RPG: The Captain settled back into his seat and drew the fingertips of the first two fingers of each hand into contact with one another, his head bowed slightly in thought. Then he spoke again. "If this ship is at Sol, and it must be remembered that we have no guarantee that it is, then we want to maintain in it a sense of calm in order that it does not leave the system untoward.", said the Captain, pondering further in the pause that followed. "The ship, if it is indeed there, will have entered on a standard flightpath so as not to arouse suspicion, if we therefore deploy one sensor probe at the outer marker we may monitor any unusual ship movements after we have entered, without raising too much alarm", he added. (Reply Sprak, Tolqu) The Captain pondered the Science officers words once again, his mind casting back to his earlier late night meeting with Admiral Sevant. The Admiral had actually backed the plan to use Isengards abilities, albeit with some aprehension at first, borne no doubt from the Lieutenants somewhat 'loose cannon' modus operandi, that said though he was also of the opinion that to root through the Hornets nest with a stick was probably not the ideal course of action to be taking upon their arrival at Sol. No, covert means were still their best option, at least initially anyway and the Captain duly voiced that to the two science officers. "Have a number of probes readied for deployment as and when the need might arise, we will deploy one at the outer marker but no more until we have a more precise target area to search", said the Captain. "That will be all gentlemen" (Reply Sprak, Tolqu) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room – ACSO, Ensign Teverine Tolqu - 09:54) "Entirely illogical, what would be the point in implementing covert means if the fact that we were actively seeking this vessel was immediately broadcast by an overt scan?" ~Teverine pinched his brow, he felt drained even his ideas were weak~ Teverine tried to change tact, and redeem some sense of professionalism, after his thoughtless outburst. “We could have the probes ready to launch at your command, how wide will the area be when the vessel is detected? What kind of degree of range are we talking here when the vessel is identified? ” (Reply T’Vhor,Sprak) Satisfied with the answer Teverine watched his Captain as he seemed to be considering his next words. "If this ship is at Sol, and it must be remembered that we have no guarantee that it is, then we want to maintain in it a sense of calm in order that it does not leave the system untoward. The ship, if it is indeed there, will have entered on a standard flight path so as not to arouse suspicion, if we therefore deploy one sensor probe at the outer marker we may monitor any unusual ship movements after we have entered, without raising too much alarm" “With our modifications we will detect any vessel trying to enter or leave the system Sir.” (Reply Sprak,T’Vhor) The Captain seemed content enough with his answer as he continued. "Have a number of probes readied for deployment as and when the need might arise, we will deploy one at the outer marker but no more until we have a more precise target area to search, that will be all gentlemen" “Aye Sir” (Reply Sprak,T’Vhor) Teverine turned and left with Sprak, he looked to his superior and nodded silently, they had a lot of work ahead of them and little time to complete it. (Reply Sprak, T'Vhor) (Posted by Peter Richards) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - CSO Commander Sprak - 09:56) "Entirely illogical", said the Captain flatly, "what would be the point in implementing covert means if the fact that we were actively seeking this vessel was immediately broadcast by an overt scan?" ~Obviously the word 'diversion' has no meaning to him.~ Sprak thought with a frown. He scratched his chin deep in thought while his new ACSO spoke and offered a few ideas. ~Well if we don't want to use a diversionary tactic then maybe that means..~ Sprak's eyes went wide and his mouth made a large 'O' shape as it suddenly accord to him. ~They don't know we are looking for them!~ "Have a number of probes readied for deployment as and when the need might arise, we will deploy one at the outer marker but no more until we have a more precise target area to search, that will be all gentlemen," Captain T'Vhor was saying as Sprak looked back up. “Aye Sir," Ensign Tolqu said, but Sprak wasn't done yet. "What about the MDP?" Sprak asked, "The Mars Defensive Perimeter around Earth could be used in stead of a series of probes. The problem is getting all the sensor platforms configured properly, not to mention getting the authorization in the first place." Sprak tapped his chin, deep in thought. "As the MDP is already in place around Earth and Mars, there would be nothing to deploy so nothing that would draw attention to us." Sprak settled back in his seat warming up to his subject. "We have to look at exactly how the ETHOS functions. Creating a holographic image around the ship can theoretically be detected by the faint power fluctuations that take place as the ship moves at sub-light speed. Provided that the ships defensive shields are down. The spatial displacement created by standard defensive shields would mask these fluctuations. So, unless they fly into the system with their shields up the MDP can be configured to look for those slight power fluctuations in the holographic image as the ship passes nearby. If their shields are up, well then it's going to take something a bit more direct to cause a disruption in the holographic image. Our modified pulse is one method of doing that, but flying around the system with your shields up for no apparent reason alone will raise a few eye brows as our sensors will have no problem detecting a ship with shields raised. The shields form outside the holographic image after all. Another subtle method is to look for that which is out of place. A cargo ship with shields far more powerful than they should be for example. We can analyze the ships ion trail for ill regularities in it's composition in comparison to what the ship appears to be. Basically a process of elimination. We could do it much faster if we could tie into the sensors of the MDP and use them along with our own ships sensors." (Reply T'Vhor, Tolqu, Any) (Posted by Wes) (USS Spectre - Captain's Ready Room - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 10:00) "What about the MDP?", Sprak had suddenly asked, thereby halting the two officers exit after the CO had dismissed them, and then going off then on a novel like descriptive of just how it would be possible to use the defense perimeter to effectively 'listen in' to any traffic entering into the system. The diminutive CSO then explained how a ships shielding might interact with it's projected image, effectively extending beyond the facade created by an ETHOS equipped vessel... and this was the point where his suggestion had hit a flaw. The Captain heard him out nonetheless, then when he had finished, he responded accordingly. "The Mars Defence Perimeter would indeed be an excellent resourse to use Mr Sprak", began the Captain, "indeed, Starfleet command have already authorized it's use in attempting to detect our target vessel. Major Falcon himself has agreed to run a recon squadron of fighters that will appear to be on military exercise maneauvers. However, the signatures of the ETHOS vessel itself have proved thus far to be indeterminate from the ships that it mimicks", said the Captain. "In short, the MDP sensors will be unlikely to detect anything untoward" "There is also no guarantee that any shielding would extend beyond the projected image of an ETHOS equipped ship... If a vessel the size of a nova class is projecting the image of a Galaxy class, then it's shields invariably remain immediately beneath the visual avatar, since it is a good degree larger than the source vessel", said the Captain. (Reply Sprak, Tolqu) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Stellar Cartography - SO, Ensign Fala Taban - 10:01) When Ensign Fala Taban woke up in his new quarters on the USS Spectre, there was a bit of confusion on his part. He wasn't quite sure where he was. It appeared his new bunk-mate, a young engineering ensign had already left for the morning and Taban went straight for the duty roster that his new CSO had laid out. It indicated that he was to report to Stellar Cartography at 10:00 hours. He had quickly gotten dressed and made it just one minute late. Stellar Cartography on this Spectre class starship was much more functional that the one that Taban left back on the Dauntless. A double-door entrance opened up into a long chamber. The center floor was empty with a couple of science technicians walking back and forth attending to their duties. At the far end of the room was a giant screen which showed the Spectre's current location among a sea of stars. There were six smaller screens on the left and the right which could be configured to indicate various information about stellar phenomenon that were happening in the area. A combination of library information and long range sensors, Stellar Cartography was the nexus for all data about the surrounding area. On each wall leading up to the screen was a series of science workstations that could be used to query the data or change the readouts on the screen. Ensign Fala moved over to one of the workstations and logged in. He was always impressed with the efficiency of the Starfleet computer network. All his settings and layout for his workstation had been transferred over from the Dauntless and he was up and going in a matter of minutes. A message from the CSO indicated the need to get as much data about Sector 001 as possible. He needed the ensign to compile a real-time data stream of all ship activity in the sector, and not just military vessels. Taban hit a few keys on his work station and the star field scrolled way from the Spectre and centered around Earth's sun. A few more key punches and Starfleet symbols appeared on the screen for all the knowns routes for Starfleet ships in the area. These were only approximations on known data until the Spectre got into sensor range. ~Wow,~ thought Taban. ~This is going to require a lot of computer work. Starfleet vessels are easy, but there's several companies that run freighters in the area. The Sol System was one of the most active systems in the galaxy since it was the center of government for The Federation.~ Ensign Fala started to send out subspace links to various computer systems back on Earth that could give him some more detailed information. (replay any) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Deck 4, Stellar Cartography - Ensign Fala Taban - 10:03) Ensign Fala Taban's fingers sifted through the various shipping databases that appeared on his screen. ~Ugh. There's thousands,~ thought the ensign. ~The Federation could learn something from the simplicity of Bajoran record keeping: there are no records.~ One database name stood out among the others, Sol Shipping Traffic Control. He opened up the database and looked at the type of information it stored. Ship. Company. Flight Plan. ~Looks pretty comprehensive. Now to just get a peak at the data in the database...~ Suddenly the message "ACCESS DENIED" appeared on the screen and his screen went blank. "Damn," Taban said under his breath. With a sigh, he opened up a subspace channel to the owner of this database. "Sol Shipping Traffic Control. This is Ensign Fala Taban on board the Federation Starship USS Spectre requesting access to your database." A young Human male appeared on the screen, a mountain scape could be seen behind his head. =/\=This is Sol Shipping Traffic Control. How can I help you, Ensign?=/\= "I need access to all your data on current flight requests through the Sol System." =/\=I'm sorry. That data is not public...=/\= "Did you not hear me? Starfleet can't just..=/\= Ensign Fala closed the channel. ~Why do they have to make it so difficult?~ "Ops, this is Ensign Fala Taban down in Stellar Cartography. I need to open a channel to Starfleet Command," stated the ensign after opening a channel to the operations station on the bridge. =/\=Aye, Mr. Taban,=/\= stated the ops officer. "It's Mr. Fala," correct Taban. =/\=Sorry about that, Mr. Fala.=/\= "No problem. I've lived with it ever since joining Starfleet. She had called minutes ago asking for his location and informing that she had some needed to know information. Lewis was curious over what subject and in seconds he was sure he would find out. "Good morning Ensign. And what information would this be?" Lewis took the PADD being handed to him. The file opened instantly as the PADD was activated. Information rested in front of his eye waiting to be read. “Lieutenant Smith was looking into Audrey Williams past to help in the interrogation of her. Lieutenant Smith had been back-tracking a lot of data from fleet intelligence and came across a shipment of omni directional holo diode clusters which seems that with a few modifications could be embedded into a ships hull. She followed the shipment to Starbase Wallace and look who she found department head meeting.” "Audrey Williams," Lewis said almost in a whisper. The Lt. had been updated on the investigation and was also prioritizing some of the files already on Audrey; Lewis knew that this find from Lt. Mitch looked up from the charts, schedules and reports on his desk. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, then turned his gaze to that of the security officer in his office. He could feel his reaction to her presents beginning to boil over. “Well, since she seems to be more your patient, not mine, I guess we’ll just go and wake her up.” Mitch’s voice was low and reverberated with a bit of a growl, an unpleasant tone, “You security officers are preventing my staff from being able to handle this patient and do our jobs.” (Reply Smithson) “No! He began fine tuning the hazards layout on the twelfth hole, a tricky par 3. He felt calmer; the thoughts of stress began to melt away. He imagined standing on the greens, feeling the winds from a sunny but crisp afternoon of a southern Louisiana February day on his skin. Lewis looked at his work console which displayed the work flow diagram he had created to verify the status of the Spectre security systems. He leaned back in his chair and involuntarily wiped his forehead with the back of his hand. He was surprised by the moisture. "Computer, decrease environmental control by 2 degrees." Suddenly the comm came to life, =/\=Ensign Smithson to Lieutenants Smith and Blake and Isengard, please meet me in Security Office five in about 10 minutes please, I have some more info, also some insight into Ms. Williams.=/\= Lewis tapped his combadge, "Ms. Smithson I will be waiting your arrival." He then began to straighten the office due to the fact that his superior officer may be visiting. She groaned softly so the she could not be heard by on the comm channel and rolled her eyes. “On my way Ensign.” She spooned the last of he meal into her mouth before getting up and taking her plate back to the replicator. She headed towards the turbolift as the plate de-materialised. Am I understood?" He spoke in a monotone, without raising his voice above a whisper, but still the Ensign turned a deathly shade of white. "Yes, Sir." The Chief looked around for a moment, with his hands clasped behind him. "Carry on." he finished. He had just turned to exit the secured doors when his badge chirped, =/\= Ensign Smithson to Lieutenants Smith and Blake and Isengard, please meet me in Security Office five in about 10 minutes please, I have some more info, also some insight into Ms. Williams =/\= Isengard stepped out of the turret and made sure it was secure behind him, "Very well Ensign, out." (reply: any) (posted by Trout) (USS Spectre – Security Office 5 – TAC/ASC, Ensign jg Alexandria Smithson – 11:55) Alex had gotten to the office before the others; she had just replicated herself a cup of tea when Isengard entered. “Lieutenant” Alex said nodding. (Reply: Isengard) Then two minutes later at 11:57 Lieutenant Jo Smith entered. “Sirs, Ensign.” “Lieutenant.” Alex paused, took a sip, as she gathered her thoughts. “Okay now we are all here, I hope I am doing things correctly? As in keeping all of you in the Loop ?” She asked. (Reply Isengard, Blake, Smith IYW) Looking a little scared and feeling it ~Get a grip Alex you have helped negotiate with a dissident Klingon warrior group, and they were a lot scarier than these people~ She thought, a thought which brought a small smile to her face, no doubt making her Senior Officers wonder. Taking a long gulp of tea, she continued. “Upon instruction from Lieutenant Smith, after bringing the info she had collated on the ETHOS vessel and Ms. Williams to Lieutenant Blake, I went to see Ms. Williams” She paused and gave a little giggle at a thought that passed through her head. “Ahem.. apologies. The on duty doctor who I personally nicknamed Doctor Stressed out, did not say it to his face though. Was not happy at Security Officers coming and going and I got the impression he thinks that Ms. Williams would be better in full care of ships Medical. Right I am digressing, back to the issue” She said putting her now empty cup down. Alex pulling out her Padd paced up and down the office as she spoke. “Upon entering I took a softer method with Ms, Williams, figuring it might get me a little further than the standard question sessions, I said that I would speak to my superiors about getting to put her into the New Zealand Penal Colony on Earth if she told me a bit more” She paused, looking at the three Senior Officers. (Reply Isengard, Blake, Smith IYW) “I never promised, just said I would talk to my superiors. Seeing that this softened her, I then put the threat of her ending up in a SFI detention Cell being questioned, then I said that I would sort it out and have her Sent to Rura Penthe. As my Father is ambassador to the Klingon Colonies it could be done.” She saw their looks and smiled. “Relax Sirs, I was partially bluffing, I could use my connections to get this done, but I would be breaking the chain of Command, then I would have my rear raked over something very hot by the Captain. So I bluffed, it seemed to work to some point” She said and paused again, relishing their individual reactions. (Reply Isengard, Blake, Smith IYW) “I will get to that directly, also Ms. Williams would prefer a Penal Colony to Rura Penthe, perhaps that bit of useless data could be put to good use at some point” She said and paused before turning to face the three Officers, now she had her diplomatic face on and knew that only Isengard if he wanted to, could read her, she looked at him and directed her thoughts at Isengard. She was no telepath, but she did receive some unofficial training in a non telepath sending to a telepath. The fact the Isengard was a very strong telepath, all she did was open her emotions and direct a single thought word at Isengard. ~I am getting to the subject Lieutenant~ She thought looking directly at him, she smiled at his look, then she put her barriers up again, for all the good it would do. Looking at each officer “Right upon hearing this Ms Williams gave this following information, It would appear that this ETHOS project was in full swing before Ms. Williams had joined it.” Paused “I am reorganising Audrey’s words so as I can relay them better. But I will leave this Padd for you all” She said holding the Padd she took the noted down on as Audrey had spoken them. “The ETHOS project was in for an overhaul and it was up to Audrey to do something about it. The idea of this ETHOS ships was a tactical vessel idea that could infiltrate anywhere with out the risk of a cloaking device which as you know has its own vulnerabilities.” She said, “again I am using her words with a slight alteration, as briefing the Senior Officers of my Department is kind of nerve racking for me, considering I am new here.” She said then looked at the padd. “These Omni-Directional Holo diode clusters are the latest to date in holo-technology, with each cluster having a Multi-directional panel which can widen the area of a projected image. Each of these clusters are placed in a certain position on the designated ship to give total coverage for whatever image you would want to emit, so this vessel could look like anything.” She paused again. (Reply Isengard, Blake, Smith IYW) “No, as it would seem that, size is the issue in this technology, according to Ms, Williams an Intrepid fitted with these devices could not look like a runabout as the extra mass could not be hidden. But it could look like a ship bigger than its self, like an Akira or Sovereign, basically any vessel that is bigger than an Intrepid Class” She paused to see what they would say. (Reply Isengard, Blake, Smith IYW) “Well I cannot really say on that Sirs, but I remember a history lesson the first warp 5 Earth ship the Enterprise NX 01 encountered a prototype Romulan vessel with similar abilities that Romulan ship was small fast and agile after its retro-fit. It was controlled from Romulus and not only could it show up as a larger ship, but that vessel could also duplicate race specific beam weapon signatures. (Reply Isengard, Blake, Smith IYW) “Understood, as for Ms. Williams, she knows more than she gave me, she is one cool customer, she only gave me a little. The turn of the conversation was a complete 180 and threw Lewis off. He felt that it was getting off topic. "Wait, we should concentrate on comparing the power signature of the ETHOS vessel, if we have that information, to the database. We need to update the Captain on this development and keep him updated as we find more information." Lewis paused. He spoke carefully. He looked over at Sprak and Hightower busy at their respective stations and he smiled inwardly. Taking a moment he looked around the room, the flashing lights on the consoles and the vibration of the ship running through every part of it, he felt at home yet something still tickled at the back of his memory, something wanted to intrude on this time of bliss and satisfaction, a dark thought was forming yet Teverine could not put his finger on it, shaking his head he looked up as his Comm badge chimed. =/\= Williams to Commander Sprak and Ensign Tolqu. =/\= “Yes Commander.” Teverine answered as he saw Sprak was involved in a lively conversation with Hightower now; he smiled to himself as he watched Hightower laughing at one of Sprak's remarks. =/\= At a convenient time I would like to have a up date on your detection device.=/\= Looking over to Sprak he caught his attention, he knew his CO was listening. “May I update him sir?” (Reply Sprak) “Yes Sir” Tapping his comm quickly Teverine continued his conversation with Williams. “Yes sir I am on my way now with our current situation.” (Reply Williams) Teverine quickly downloaded all their current findings and progressions and moved towards the door. Well he hoped they would be anyway. Arriving before Williams, Teverine stepped into the sickbay and stood to the side, watching as the medical crew went about their work. As the door swished open and Williams entered, Teverine took a step immediately to his side passing him the data PADD ready for inspection. “Here is all our work done so far sir. The probes are being recalibrated as we speak, we encountered a few issues but nothing to prevent us having it ready on time." (Reply Williams) Teverine quickly checked his uniform was set straight; he had a lot of respect for Williams ever since he had spoken to him when he was newly arrived, what seemed to him years ago now. Though he knew he had net even fully settled into being part of the crew, having been thrown into so many situations in such a short time. Teverine had hoped for something a little more peaceful for his first posting. He recalled Williams coming to his room, and he remembered sharing an Ornaran tea and his first honest unabated chat about his past with someone Teverine considered a stranger at the time. He had been totally honest about his past and how he had left his wife Perra behind back on Ornaran, he had explained how she was an addict to Felicum, how he had tried time and time again to help her detoxify, his painful but final decision to walk out on her, leaving her was a hard choice and one he knew he still felt guilt for even to this present day, but Williams had not been judgemental and had only advised that it was a good thing to talk out loud, that it would consume him if he let it fester like a rotting wound. “Good afternoon sir, our report.” Teverine smiled cordially at his superior waiting to be told to report any further information if needed. (Reply Williams) “Yes sir, we are in the process of modifying the probes, we have to adjust the duodynetic graviton core of each probe individually to avoid burn out, which is time consuming in itself, once that is complete it should not be hard to amend each with a interphasic graviton burst.” (Reply Williams) “Sprak and Hightower are working on configuring the probe’s magnascopic vertion field, to prevent degradation.” (Reply Williams) “After this I was about to head to engineering to have them help configure the plasmonic particle scanner to the right frequency to pick up any holographic emitters, Sprak was thinking of a tri-axilating wave form.” (Reply Williams) (Posted by Peter Richards) (USS Spectre – FO’s Office – FO, Commander Andrew Williams - 13:00) Andrew watched a Tolqu entered the office. “Good afternoon sir, our report.” He smiled and nodded to a seat in front of him. “Thank you for arriving so quickly. I know that you are busy. Please tell me what you have.” “Yes sir, we are in the process of modifying the probes, we have to adjust the duodynetic graviton core of each probe individually to avoid burn out, which is time consuming in itself, once that is complete it should not be hard to amend each with an interphasic graviton burst.” Andrew nodded as he kept up with what Tolqu was telling him. “Who's converting the probe?” “Sprak and Hightower are working on configuring the probe’s magnascopic vertion field, to prevent degradation.” “What happens next?” “After this I was about to head to engineering to have them help configure the plasmonic particle scanner to the right frequency to pick up any holographic emitters, Sprak was thinking of a tri-axilating wave form.” Andrew nodded again. “What is the estimated range that we will be able to detect the ETHOS ship?” (Reply Tolqu) “Is there any way of making the scans harder to detect in case the ship has mixed itself into other shipping? We don’t wont to give the game away so quickly.” (Reply Tolqu) (Reply Tolqu, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Engineering - CEO, H'Chir - 13:42) H'Chir flipped the hypospanner repeatedly end over end in his hand with a practiced ease as he watched the display. With the phase induction coils having now been replaced, albeit with something other than mark VI's, the levels were now begining to stabilize and were showing near optimal performance characteristics on the simulation. The flow compensator however was showing a marked deviation and although that did not overly worry the Engineer, it was not perfect. With a sigh, he resigned himself to the fact that it was about the best he was going to achieve under the circumstances, and with that in mind, he raised the bridge with a tap of his combadge. "H'Chir to bridge" (Reply Bridge, Williams, Any) "If you would oblige me, I'm ready to run the tests on the phased cloak... the Captain HAS given approval, in case you were not sure" (Reply Bridge) "I'm going to run for an hour under cloak, my panels are telling me that there's power enough to spare and I want to get this right before we hit Sol", said H'Chir. (Reply Bridge) "I'll keep an eye on things down here, and rest assured, if I see any reason to the contrary, I'll shut it all down from here.... H'Chir out" The Andorian then turned to the small assemblage of engineers nearby and directed them accordingly. "OK people, we have our window. The phased cloak is go for operation, I want someone on the manual bypass just in case we have to vent unexpectedly.... let's get this done", said H'Chir as he turned to face the master console once again, an aire of deliberation about him as he did so. The backlog of repairs was long since the ship was plunged underwater less then 24 hours previous. Freshly recovered CEO, Lieutenant H'Chir, was in rare form, slightly off his rocker in the young ensign's opinion. "OK people, we have our window. The phased cloak is go for operation, I want someone on the manual bypass just in case we have to vent unexpectedly...." The ensign stood up indicating that he would man the manual bypass and walked over to the station. "Let's get this done," continued the Andorian barking orders to his men. Ensign Marciano logged into the station which set the user interface to a set of controls he was used to working with. He could see the various EPS conduits that flowed energy into the Phased Cloaked system which was located directly below their feet. Everything looked nominal. "Ready," stated the ensign with a nod to the CEO. (reply H'Chir, any) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - CEO, Lt H'Chir - 13:45) H'Chir preferred not to sit, instead he remained standing at the master console, watching the readouts and occasionally grasping at his chin with the fingers of one hand as he did so. In his position of CEO, it was pretty much accepted that standing a great deal went with the territory, it was all simply just a reflex to being on red alert for most of the time, metaphorically of course, but nonetheless H'chir was probably more highly strung than most given his demeanor! Marciano had by now already taken up station at the manual bypass as requested and H'Chir had watched as Ensign's Brake and Fathrow had gone down a deck to the cloak itself with any equipment that they deemed necessary, then he returned his attention to Marciano who had settled in to his station and had already initiated the relevant controls and placed them into standby, he himself then turned to the CEO. "Ready", he voiced with a nod. H'Chir returned the nod and then signalled the bridge one last time with another tap of his combadge. "H'Chir to bridge... you may engage the phased cloak at will" (Reply Any, Bridge) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre – Bridge – FO, Commander Andrew Williams - 13:46) =/\=H'Chir to bridge=/\= The unexpercted comm broke Andrew thoughts. ”Bridge, Williams here. It was late and she knew it would not be appearing now. She had waited this long she knew she could wait as long as it took to make Teverine pay. She closed her eyes and pictured the torment of the doctor back on Mars she killed. She smiled to herself as she pictured Teverine’s eyes in his place, the fear the utter shock of knowing he was going to die. Yes she knew she could wait longer. She walked with a sleakness born of a predator and sat back down slowly I the pilot’s seat. The first phase was in action, she knew within a few weeks a month at tops Teverine would be beginning on his path to destruction. Even if those fools worked out what was happening she had enough in store to make sure nothing would stop her. Checking her scanner one last time she punched in a new course and set the ship to auto pilot, as she closed her eyes and dreamed of revenge. Not always meeting deadlines was a occupational hazard to her, she knew everything came to those that waited.
