He barely stiffled a chuckle. “I am making enquiries about this program.” said Jo Smith. "Okay ... I'm intrigued." replied Paul opening an acces hatch to the jeffries tubes. “I have reason to believe that you have some knowledge of this program, Ensign Morphy?” Jo said in an off tone. "Well, Lieutenant, it sounds like you really only have a hunch. I admit to being a prankster but as far as this goes ..." Paul stopped before he reached the obvious denial. (reply Smith) "It does bare a distinct resemblance to a program I've seen before ... it's called 'Chuck's Angels'." Paul offered. (reply Smith) (reply Smith) (posted by Anton) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering – Security Officer Smith - 17:10) "Well, Lieutenant, it sounds like you really only have a hunch. I admit to being a prankster but as far as this goes ..." ”Yes Ensign?” She gave him a look. "It does bare a distinct resemblance to a program I've seen before ... it's called 'Chuck's Angels'." Paul offered. She had heard whispers about this ‘Chuck’s Angels’ but was not going to admit it to Morphy and see what he would say. “What’s ‘Chuck’s Angels’?” (reply Morphy) (reply Morphy) (posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering – Ensign Paul Morphy - 17:10) “What’s ‘Chuck’s Angels’?” Asked the Lieutenant. "It's a holodeck program that was originally created by Donaldson in Security. That was before he was the chief, though." Paul began, "it ended up in the hands of the Marines and the cult fan base began. I'm sure I've got a copy of the program somewhere ... just don't tell the guys upstairs and I'll let you see it." (reply Smith) (posted by Anton) ========================================================================== Mission: The Gates of Prometheus Day: 119 Stardate: 2408.06.06 (USS Spectre - Tactical/Security Dept - TAC Officer, Lt, Ammon Ranae - 15:15) Ranae's initial investigation of the crime scene had been thorough and had taken her almost an hour; she had a vid of Talbot's quarters and had also acquired plenty of data on her scanner including fingerprints and some physical evidence. When she exited the quarters she had placed a security lock on it that acted both as a warning to others that trespassing was prohibited and would also trigger a silent alarm should anyone attempt to enter the premises. Now, back in the Security department, it was time to see if any of it would show who had stolen the chips, first though, she sent a message to Ensign Talbot to notify him where his temporary quarters were and advise him that if he wished, they could become his permanent quarters, and then she set about viewing the entire vid she had recorded. Once the vid had been viewed with frequent pauses and replays of some footage, she began processing the fingerprints, and also the physical 'evidence' she'd gathered with the prospect of getting DNA. (reply Any) (posted by Sal) (USS Spectre - Engineering - CEO, Lieutenant H'Chir - 15:47) ~Well, the schematics look good~ thought H'Chir with an approving nod, the fact remained though that all of this really needed to be checked out under exhaustive conditions. A field rotating target was nothing at all like a Borg drone of course but the science looked promising, then there was the fact that they had very little time to do any more anyway. "How long before you can replicate enough of these for the Marine squad?", asked the CEO, his mind wondering now towards the element of time. "Sir, I will need about 2 hours to replicate 5 or 6 more chips and install them", said Talbot. "Then you better get to it right away", said H'Chir handing the modulation chip back to the Ensign and then scrutinizing the Schematics one more time. (Reply Talbot) "Don't bother bringing them to me first, take them to MXO Kowalski for immediate install", said H'Chir, "lord knows they could use an edge right now" (Reply Talbot) Talbot headed off chip in hand, then as he did so the CEO called after him. (Reply Talbot) "Well done Ensign, very nice work..... very nice work indeed", said H'Chir before he quickly returned to the particular task that now lay ahead of him, which would basically be more tinkering no less. (Reply Talbot, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Engineering - ACEO, Ensign Peter Talbot - 15:48) The Chief had removed the chip from the Marine C III to get a final look at the device after briefly looking over the technical schematics H'Chir handed the chip back to Talbot. The engineers then discussed the pressing time issue and H'Chir sent Talbot on his way to replicate and install the MOD chips for the Marine squad. "Then you better get to it right away", said H'Chir. Peter replied, "Yes sir." "Don't bother bringing them to me first, take them to MXO Kowalski for immediate install", said H'Chir, "lord knows they could use an edge right now" "I'm on it sir," Peter responded. He picked up the Marine III C from the test rig and headed for the replication lab just down the corridor. Before Talbot got a few steps away the Chief called after him, "Well done Ensign, very nice work..... very nice work indeed", said H'Chir Without missing a beat Talbot turned and replied, "Thank you for giving me the chance sir." Talbot continued on to the lab. (reply none, any) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Engineering - Replication Lab - ACEO, Ensign Peter Talbot - 15:51) Peter entered the Replication Lab and found it unoccupied. ~Excellent I should be able to complete my task expediently.~ He began by programming the replication parameters for the MOD chip into the replicator control console in the center of the room. The lab was equipped with 10 Mark 7 industrial grade replicators each one capable of producing a cup of coffee or intricate computer circuit. Peter placed the prototype MOD chip into the scanning chamber which was also located in the center of the room next to the control console. He activated the scanning device which caused the MOD chip to float while red, blue, and yellow laser lights all measured and penetrated the chip down to the sub-atomic level to make a perfect digital representation which could be replicated. The scanning process took about 12 minutes. Peter then entered a quantity of 6 MOD chips he wished to have produced. He also instructed each chip to be produced by a separate replicator to save on time. Peter was unsure how long the complex structures of the chip would take to complete so he asked the computer. "Computer calculate time to complete the replication of MOD Chip Talbot 1," Peter said. [39 minutes] was the computers reply. Peter was astonished by the projected efficiency of the replicators, he was used to working with the much older mark 5 systems at the academy. ~At this rate I should finish well ahead of schedule.~ Peter tapped a few more keys on the console and the replicators began to process the commands a shimmering glow could be seen from 6 of the devices as the chips slowly started to materialize. Talbot walked across the room to one tof the replicators not in use and ordered, "Green tea, unsweetened, iced." the replicator shimmered and glowed for a moment and then a glass of Talbot's requested beverage stood ready to be consumed. Peter returned to the center console and sat down sipping his drink as he waited for his MOD chips to be completed. (reply any) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Engineering - Replication Lab - ACEO, Ensign Peter Talbot - 16:47) [Replication Complete] the computer voice stated nearly startling Talbot who was very relaxed. Peter placed his glass back into the replicator which was immediately decompiled. He then collected the MOD chips and placed them into an anti-static enclosure, he had replicated, he slung the phaser rifle strap over his shoulder and headed to see the MXO on deck 16. Talbot tapped his combadge and said, "ACEO Ensign Talbot to MXO Major Kowalski" (reply Kowalski) "Major I'm on my way down to deck 16 with weapons upgrade chips for your teams' Marine III C's. If you could have 6 rifles ready I'll install them for you Major," Talbot said. (reply Kowalski) "Thank you Major, I will see you in our office and explain further then," Talbot remarked. (reply Kowalski, any) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Deck 16, MXO's Office - MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski - 16:50) With the Marine squad and the Spectre security detail now suitably organised, the MXO had returned to his office for what he felt was a well earned drink of his favourite non alcoholic beverage, namely a blend of Andorian tea that Lt Major Khran had recently introduced him to. The Andorian was a strange one that much was for sure, but the recent debacle arranged by the as yet unknown perpetrator of the holo-program meddling had seemingy pushed him to the edge of late. The man was a fine officer though and one certainly not deserving of the treatment he had received thus far on the Spectre, and Major Kowalski himself had vowed that butts would be suitably kicked on this one, once the culprit was found of course. Sipping at the tea though, Kowalski was relaxed and unprepared for the comms from the Engineer in regards his missing rifle, it seemed that it was coming back at long last! And with upgrades as promised. =/\=ACEO Ensign Talbot to MXO Major Kowalski=/\= "Go ahead Ensign Talbot", said Kowalski placing his mug upon the table now. =/\=Major I'm on my way down to deck 16 with weapons upgrade chips for your teams' Marine III-C's. If you could have 6 rifles ready I'll install them for you Major=/\=, said the Ensign. "Great news, I have six Marines down here that have been waiting for this 'edge' of yours..... let's hope it achieves your expectations", said Kowalski. "I'll have the weapons prepared and ready for you immediately" =/\=Thank you Major, I will see you in your office and explain further then=/\= Kowalski picked up his mug again and took another sip of the tea, then he closed the comms after acknowledging Talbots offer of a further explanation and called to Richards to ready their weaponary for modification. (Reply None) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Deck 16, MXO's Office - MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski - 16:55) By the time the MXO had finished his tea, the Ensign, complete with rifle slung somewhat loosely over his shoulder appeared at his office door looking eager to begin. Kowalski did a double take and then offered the Ensign a seat, a little dubiously now to say the very least. "I do hope that thing is on safety Ensign", said Kowalski referring to the casual way that the Engineer was carrying the weapon in question" (Reply Talbot) Kowalski pursed his lips together in a kind of, 'I know better than you' manner, then he took up the rifle and made sure that it was indeed on safety before popping out the MOD chip, which looked predictably uninspiring in it's bog standard black casing. It wasn't that he didn't trust the Engineer of course, it was purely a conditioned reflex. "So, this is gonna put holes through the Borg adaptive shielding then uh?", he asked enquiringly. (Reply Talbot) "So let's go see it in action. You must understand that I'm not going to arm my men with something that might fail in the field when it's most needed", said Kowalski. (Reply Talbot) H'Chir? Speaking of H'Chir, had he tasted this tea? Kowalski could only wonder. Regardless though, if the CEO of the Spectre had endorsed the chips himself then who was a lowly MXO to argue with that! Kowalski stood and then gestured with his hand for the Ensign to lead on. "Ahead and on to your left, the rifles are waiting", said the MXO and the Ensign duly led the way. (Reply Talbot, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Deck 16 - MXO's Office - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 16:56) Talbot exited the turbolift onto deck 16 made his way through the corridor to the MXO's office. He turned the corner and saw the door was open so he entered without using the chime. The Major was finishing a cup of tea and seated at his desk. He looked up as Talbot entered and gave him a surprised yet strange look, his words explained his reaction. "I do hope that thing is on safety Ensign," Kowalski barked in a not so joking tone. Talbot returned fire with an attempt at human humor, "Of course it is Major, what do you take me for a first week cadet," the joke did not seem to go over well, indicated by the way Kowalski checked the rifle before he removed the MOD chip. The Major remarked, "So, this is gonna put holes through the Borg adaptive shielding then uh?" "Absolutely Major," Talbot answered very matter of factly. "So let's go see it in action. You must understand that I'm not going to arm my men with something that might fail in the field when it's most needed", said Kowalski. Talbot rebutted, "Major, I ran a battery of tests on the upgrade against an adaptive target. It performed at near 100% . And I already have CEO Lt. H'Chir's approval for install." With the mention of The Lt.'s endorsement the Major seemed to approve of the install as well. It seemed everyone on board the Spectre possessed a great deal of respect for the Chief which Talbot was growing to have as well. "Ahead and on to your left, the rifles are waiting", said the MXO. Talbot lead the way as motioned to do so. As instructed Talbot led them out of the MXO's office and down the corridor to the left just ahead he saw the Marine Briefing Room. They entered. (reply Kowaslski, O'Hara) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Deck 16 - Marine Briefing Room - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 16:58) The room had one occupant a Corporal O'Hara, according to his uniform. Talbot had never met the man before, he was leaning on a large table at the front of the room, which resembled a small lecture hall with tables and chairs situated on an incline, apparently he was left to watch over the rifles on the table next to him. Talbot said, "Well, I will get started it should only take a few minutes." (reply Kowalski, O'Hara, IYW) Peter worked quickly and soon he was on the last rifle. He removed the old chip replaced it with the new and reset the weapons programming to interface with it. Peter had finished in only 11 minutes a marked improvement for the last install which took 8 minutes to complete on only 1 rifle. "That does it gentlemen," Talbot smiled and said, "Happy hunting." (reply Kowaslski, O'Hara) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (USS Spectre - Deck 16 - Marine Briefing Room - MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski and Corporal, Lewis O'Hara - 16:58) O'Hara scratched his head and looked at the rifles upon the table, by this time of course Richards had vacated the room having been tasked with the job of bringing the III-C's there, and then sent on his way again to familiarize himself with what lay ahead. O'Hara though was not particularly happy with their tools being messed with, a Marines weapon was his lifeline after all and new fangled hardware installed to make things work better, had a tendency to make things worse.... in his own experience anyway. The arrival of the engineer in question prompted only a cursory glance, the appearance of the MXO immediately behind him however brought him quickly to attention. "Sir, weapons are ready for attention as ordered...sir!", he cried, standing rigid and motionless in front of the desk. "At ease Corporal", said the Major, "Ensign Talbot has some new toys for us to play with so listen up and get with the plan, your gonna be teaching everyone else to", he added. "Sir, yes sir", said O'Hara as he picked up the nearest of the weapons and then handed it to the Engineering Officer. "Well, I will get started, it should only take a few minutes", said Talbot as he took the weapon from the Marine and then began talking him through the advanatages of the new upgrade whilst reprogramming the III-C's software to work with it. Obviously the man knew his hardware for he worked upon it with all the finesse and expertise of one of their own, needless to say it did'nt take him long to finish the job. "That does it gentlemen...... Happy hunting", said the Engineer. "Happy hunting?", said O'Hara, "let's hope that we don't have to hunt down your ass if this goes wrong", he added. "O'HARA!", cried the MXO, "A little respect for the man if you please, from what I understand he's put a lotta work into this little sorte.... and with the CEO's backing no less", he added. O'Hara furrowed his brow in response, shamed now by the chastisement from his superior officer. "Sorry sir, I didn't mean to be....", said O'Hara whilst the MXO proceeded then to motion towards the Ensign with a sideways nod of his head, meaning that the apology should go to him, not himself. "Yes sir, sorry sir", said the Marine turning now to the Engineer instead. "I apologise Ensign Talbot, I am sure that the upgrades will turn out to be an advantage to us", said O'Hara. (Reply Talbot, IYW) The MXO then addressed the Ensign. "Thank you Ensign Talbot, if this works as planned.... I owe you a drink in ten forwards", he said. (Reply Talbot) The Ensign then made his way back to Main Engineering to return the tools he had arrived with. (Reply Talbot, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Transporter Briefing Room 1 - TAC/SC Charles "Chuck" Donaldson - 17:20) The group had finally all assembled. It would be quite awhile before they were prepared to disembark but Chuck didn't want any screw-ups. He stood slowly from his chair and then turned to address the group. "Lt. Cmdr. (reply Kirien, Rogers, Talbot, Smith, Rameriz, any) (posted by Anton) (USS Spectre - Transporter Briefing Room 1 - SFI Agent - Lt. Commander Brian Rogers - 17:21) Brian listened as Lt. We don't know what other borg vessels may be in the area to cause us trouble so I'll depend on you to coordinate our efforts with the Spectre." The lieutenant said. "Understood," he said briefly. Donaldson went about, giving out orders to the other members of his team while Rogers listened carefully. The exchange between the new Ensign Talbot and Donaldson caught his interest, although Rogers did he best not to show it. Once it seemed the briefing was over, Donaldson took his place on the padd and everybody else following him. Despite his attempts to be cool, Rogers felt more and more uncomfortable as the time ticked by. Rogers had a previous encounter with the Borg, whilest attached to Starbase Geneva, although, it had ended without any bloodshed, rather uneventfully. A few Borg drones had beammed about their support ship, taken a few scans of the main computer, and left. Needless to say, the incident had felt unresolved. "Sir, I'm honored to be chosen, and I'll do all I can to complete the mission objectives sir." Donaldson leaned forward and addressed Lt. Jo Smith in almost a whisper then asked if anyone had other questions. Talbot slightly raised his hand just enough to be seen by Lt. Donaldson who nodded toward him. Talbot said, "Lt. I must inform you that I have been on duty now for 16 hours, and It may be wise for the Doctor it prescribe a stimulant before we leave the Spectre." Said Ensign Talbot. Chuck thought for a moment staring at the wall behind the Ensign. He rubbed his chin quizzically and rested his elbows on the briefing table. “Alright, a non-abrasive stimulant shouldn’t be a big problem. But just so we’re clear if you screw up it’s your hide. You chose to bust your hump on the phaser modifications.” Chuck spoke in a clear voice to emphasize his seriousness. He didn’t appreciate his orders being questioned by a new transfer ... but perhaps that fire within Mr. Talbot could be put to some use. Chuck recalled himself stepping on a few toes to get where he was now. (reply Talbot IYW, any) (Posted by Anton) (USS Spectre - Sick Bay - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 18:01) After Lt. A moment later an Ensign in a blue medical uniform appeared from an room off to the side. As she approached Talbot introduced himself and explained his situation. "Hello Ensign, I am ACEO Peter Talbot, I am part of the away team going over to the Borg ship and I believe I may need a stimulant to combat some tiredness. You see I've been on duty for nearly 17 hours," Talbot said. (reply D'Alin Tethys) Doctor Tethys seemed a bit apprehensive to giving out medications to a crew member she had never met or consulted with before "Lt. Donaldson is leading the away mission and has given authorization for a mild drug." Peter assured her he was not a drug seeking junkie. (reply D'Alin Tethys) Peter replied, "Thank you Doctor." A half-complete letter to her mom was also sitting on her desk...okay, if she was honest, it contained little more than "Hi Mom..." but at least it was a start. Her long black hair was being moved gently by the desk fan she'd replicated on arrival, and she brushed it out of her face. Although it wasn't technically necessary, since the environment was carefully modulated and the temperature was perfect, D'Alin enjoyed the breeze. It reminded her of home. The only thing missing was the smells the breeze used to carry, and the memories that each scent evoked. Hearing a noise in the main area of sickbay, D'Alin took her attention from the pictures on the wall and went through to see who had entered. "Hello Ensign, I am ACEO Peter Talbot, I am part of the away team going over to the Borg ship and I believe I may need a stimulant to combat some tiredness. You see I've been on duty for nearly 17 hours," Talbot said. D'Alin was surprised and a little wary at the request. She was more inclined to order the Lieutenant to head to his room for some rest than to provide him a means to continue functioning on what was obviously an extended period of service. "Lieutenant, may I enquire why exactly you have been on duty for such a long period of time and why I would want to provide you with a stimulant to continue to do so. It's not recommended to perform such a long tour of duty. Not to mention that I have not examined you, I don't know your medical history, any potential allergies." ~You should be resting, despite the stimulant, you're more likely to make mistakes when you're this tired. Clumsiness, errors in judgement, simple mistakes.~ The Lieutenant obviously picked up on her discomfort and sought to reassure her, reminding D'Alin again that she'd failed in trying to project a Vulcan's impassivity. In his obvious hurry to get back to the mission, he didn't answer most of her questions, which also didn't thrill her. "Lt. Donaldson is leading the away mission and has given authorization for a mild drug." "And I'm assuming you are going on this away mission? I sincerely hope for your sake and the sake of everyone on the vessel that your presence is absolutely necessary. Despite the injection, you will not be performing at maximum effectiveness, as your mental processes are tired and need to rest." She overcame her misgivings, although not without great difficulty. "I will be putting it on record that I do not agree with this course of action, but that I recognize the necessity of it, considering that it has been authorized by a senior officer. But you are to go off duty the minute you return and you are to obtain some rest. Doctor's Orders..." Peter replied, "Thank you Doctor." She replicated the medication and after briefly checking his pulse and vital signs applied the hypospray. She could see the immediate difference in his eyes, which before had been listless, the eyelids drooping. They were now fully open, and the gaze he gave her was focused and direct. He practically bounced off the biobed, thanked her briefly and rushed out the room, obviously in a hurry to get back to work. Shaking her head and hoping that she hadn't made an error in judgement, D'Alin returned to the office, determined to take her own example and to do her work within her shift, so she wouldn't need to do it after. Her feet dragging slightly, she unenthusiastically returned to the task at hand. ~I wonder if it's wrong to wish for a medical emergency?~ She contemplated that thought for a moment... ~Probably, but when it comes to paperwork, I think they make an exception~ (Reply None/Any) (Posted by Sherri Pretorius) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix Zero Nine - MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski - 18:45) Now there was no need for radio silence, the Borg in the immediate vicinity of their field of operations had been alerted but had the Marines disabled the internal comms soon enough! Only time would tell now. Houseman had already taken aim with his weapon of course and had looked expectantly to the MXO for final authorisation, it wasn't needed but Kowalski gave it anyway. "Take them down", he said sharply and all at once, the two drones bore the result of Housemans cool and collected aim, their mechanised and enhanced bodies shuddering backwards in response to the hits and then falling against the bulkhead in a disorganised heap. (Reply Any) "Two down, twenty two to go", said Kowalski as he checked his TAC/COM display noting as he did so that multiple contacts had suddenly appeared in all directions upon it! The MXO then raised the Spectre. "Marine One to Spectre - we 'have' engaged the Borg" (Reply Any on Spectre) "Confirmed, Kowalski out", said the MXO as he briefly addressed his men once again. "Time to see if the new Engineering Ensign's weapons upgrades are as good as he says they are", he said as each of the Marine weapons in question now raised to their respective shoulders almost in unison before they headed out along the corridor. One thing seemed obvious now, either the internal coms were still active or the two drones had managed to communicate with their like a second or two before the coms had actually fallen, either way it went without saying that the fifteen previously reported to be in rejeneration were most likely stepping out of their alcoves now to join their zombified colleagues, like white blood cells racing towards a bodilly invader. "Ok Marines, two groups... Houseman you take Richards and O'Hara to primary power, Sanderson and Dillan, your with me", said Kowalski. (Reply Houseman, Any) The two groups then peeled off in separate directions, maintaining radio communications at all times of course and wondering if Talbots new modulation chips were actually going to be worth their salt or not. (Reply Houseman, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix Zero Nine – CPL, Houseman - 18:47) Houseman waited for the command from Kowalski not because he would not shoot the Borg drones but because it was the Majors mission and would decide when things got nasty. "Take them down", Houseman looked back at the drones and took aim. He fired in quick succession and watched as the drones collapsed onto the floor. “Two drones permanently disconnected from the collective.” "Two down, twenty two to go", "Marine One to Spectre - we 'have' engaged the Borg" Houseman looked at the returns on his TAC/COM and saw the groups of enemy heading in their direction. ~Yes we are really deep in the brown stuff now~ "Confirmed, Kowalski out", "Time to see if the new Engineering Ensign's weapons upgrades are as good as he says they are", Houseman nodded as he readied his phaser pistol ready to face any more drones that should come his way. They moved in as a group along the corridor. He heard the heavy foot falls of nearby drones but none came into his view. "Ok Marines, two groups... Houseman you take Richards and O'Hara to primary power, Sanderson and Dillan, your with me", said Kowalski. Houseman nodded. “Yes Sir.” He looked at Richards and O’Hara and then moved off down an adjoining corridor which headed towards primary power. He kept checking his TAC/COM to make sure that they were heading in the right direction. They turned a corner and at the far end of the corridor was primary power. It was in a small room and had a door way at the other end which opened to another corridor. =^=Kowalski to House, ears on buddy?=^= “Roger Sir hearing you loud and clear.” =^=We took another three offline, looks like the chips are good... remind me to buy the Engineer a bevy in Ten Forwards when we're done will ya=^= Houseman grinned. “No problem Sir. I’ll get him one too.” =^=Are you at Primary power yet?=^= “In site Sir. It all apears quiet to quiet.” =^=Keep me updated, looks like they may be communicating via some wierd data bursts.... plus I'm sure some may have taken off someplace=^= “Copy that Sir.” Houseman looked back at the small room and had an uneasy feeling about what was ahead. Although they had heard drones moving near them they had not been attacked. This meant that they were waiting for the right time and getting stuck in that small room made for a perfect ambush. ~No one said this was going to be easy~ He pushed the thoughts aside and moved forward. He stepped cautiously into the room. He could see no Borg so he continued further in. He stepped over to the other door and looked out. He still could not see any Borg so he looked back at Richards and O'Hara. “O’Hara its all yours mate. Richards you go that door I’ll take this one.” (Reply O’Hara) As the others began doing their stuff Houseman slowly stuck his head out of the door and looked into a corridor that ran parallel to the room. He thought he saw something to his right at the far end and took a step across the thresh hold. That was when the Borg sprung their trap. In a flash of energy a force field sprang up cutting off Houseman from Richards and O'Hara. ~What the…~ He looked back at the other two. ”O’Hara what did you do. I did not touch anything.” (Reply O’Hara) He paused as he heard the dreaded sound of approaching feet. They were not the soft foot falls of marines but the heavy stomp of Borg drones. He looked down the corridor to see a group were heading towards him. ~Ow Hell~ He pulled out his phaser pistol and took aim at the closest drones. He fired one shot and the drone crumpled to the floor which a small hole in its head. The ones behind paid no heed to the first drone and stepped over it to continue its advance. “Come on O’Hara. This is not the time to be softly, softly catchy monkey okay.” (Reply O’Hara) “Well work quicker!” He swung his head around and saw that there were drones coming from the other end of the corridor. ~Ow this is just great~ He moved sideways and pulled out his back up weapon. This was a pistol which fired explosive rounds rather then phaser energy. He was now standing with his arms out stretched pointing at either end of the corridor at the approaching Borg. He felt like something out one of the old westerns he use to watch as a kid. He began firing as the corridor echoed with the hiss of the phaser and the boom of the pistol. “O’Hara, get that shield down now. I don’t need to be rescued by the annoying Spaniard his ego is already big enough.” (Reply O’Hara) (Reply O’Hara, Any) (Posted by Robbie) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix Zero Nine – Cprl Lewis O'Hara - 18:52) "O’Hara its all yours mate....", said Houseman as he sent Richards off to guard the opposite door to the one he himself was now guarding. O'Hara moved towards the power distribution panel and then knelt down before it before unrolling his kit from the satchel he had carried with him and beginning. "I'm on it", he had said before quickly running a tool around the perimeter of the panel itself to check for any kind of proximal sensors or trips. One had to be sure after all! It was predictably devoid of anything nasty though of course, why would the Borg protect their own mechanisations from themselves, they weren't exactly used to receiving visitors now were they! In seconds the panel was off and a myriad of blinking lights was exposed to the demo man's eyes, another test revealed the flowthrough which was again predictable in it's design what with it having been no doubt 'assimilated' beforehand from some other race. "Well well, what do we have here then", said O'Hara as he proceeded then to isolate certain taps before delving beneath a mass of rather ordinary looking conduits. "Standard fair, EPS control lines, plasma venting and pre-charge assemblies..... piece of cake", he added, just as a forcefield sprung up immediately within the room to trap both himself and Richards in situ. "Jeezus!", cried O'Hara unexpectantly. "O’Hara what did you do. I did not touch anything", cried Houseman. "I touched a lot of things House, but nothing that could have instigated... THIS!", he shouted, gesturing now to the field that enclosed them whilst Houseman began opening fire upon an as yet unseen enemy. "Damn and blast, not good", said O'Hara as he quickly began pulling at the various conduits in an attempt to find anything that might be responsible for a forcefield. "Come on O’Hara. This is not the time to be softly, softly catchy monkey okay", said Houseman, averting his eyes briefly from his targets now. "Catchy Borg more like, I'm on it, I'm on it!", cried the Marine as he changed tact and then began running another of his kit toys adjacent to the individual feeds. Everything was showing red of course, no blues in sight and definately no greens that would indicate what he was looking for as the firefight continued on outside the room with Richards eager now to get out himself and assist Houseman. "Well work quicker!", cried Houseman as yet another barrage of shots flew down the corridor, hopefully making contact with Borg flesh. O'Hara quickly ran to another panel, glancing upwards as he did so to note the field actuator above him. "Rich, hold this immediately next to the field itself", said O'Hara eagerly handing his comrade a small tool resembling a screwdriver, whilst he himself pulled the second panel off and then began running more tests upon the trunking within it. More reds, no blues, then..... one green! "Keep it steady bud", said Lewis, "One more moment" The firefight continued on with Houseman now firing explosive rounds at the Borg drones whilst O'Hara and Richards worked on. "Bingo!" "Got you you son of a bitch!", cried O'Hara as the field suddenly collapsed, along with most of the secondary power feeds in the first panel he had been working on. "O’Hara, get that shield down now. I don’t need to be rescued by the annoying Spaniard, his ego is already big enough", said Houseman. O'Hara shook his head, Houseman with his focus solely upon the Borg drones obviously hadn't realised that the field had just fallen, but then who could have blamed him. "It's down man, your looking the wrong way.... or the right way as the case may be", said O'Hara. (Reply Houseman, IYW) Richards had wasted no time at all of course and had run out into the corridor whilst O'Hara finished working on the first power circuits in an attempt to bring them ALL down, thus achieving their secondary objective. It took a few minutes to achieve but suddenly, everything went completely black, a sure indication of objective achieved if ever there was. "House, we got the goods, the MXO's got them too, time to storm the bastille buddy", said Lewis as he quickly packed up his kit and then joined his somewhat stressed colleagues out in the corridor, weapon already raised and ready. (Reply Houseman, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix Zero Four - MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski - 18:57) All of a sudden the strangest sound could be heard resonating through the corridors of the Borg vessel, it was a kind of high pitched screech and it stopped the three Marines dead in their tracks. "What in gods name is that?", said Dillan as he swung about fast, his weapon switching from one area of the corridor to the other as the light suddenly dimmed to almost nothing along with their shadows which now cast eerie, moving patterns upon the walls. "Oh crap", said Dillan, "now this definately wasn't in our holodeck training scenario" "Quit bitchin Dillan, we're Marines remember, we adapt.... like the freakin Borg", said Sanderson. Dillan simply huffed and then groaned his contempt for the unexpected in whatever form it took. Kowalski quickly gave the order to switch to night vision and the Marines duly activated their diopters, which swung out from the rigid neck braces of their BDU's to deploy over their right eyes. "Crafty lil zombies uh, they know the limitations of Human eyes.....Okay people, stay sharp", said Kowalski as he quickly began analysing the previous sound via his tricorder in an attempt to isolate what it might have been as they moved slowly onwards. "Looks like it was a data stream of some sort, high intensity burst, no doubt intended to overide their sudden loss of communications", said Kowalski, just as another sound assailled their ears. This time though it was nothing like before. Kowalski furrowed his brow as he listened intently. "Now that sounded like a launch", he said thoughtfully, just as three Borg drones suddenly appeared up ahead and then began moving towards them, the red beams of their laser range finders slicing through the damp air so as to illuminate the dust suspended within it as they did so. The robotic bladed attachment of the nearest began spinning as it extended it's arm, the MXO raised his III-C to his shoulder and targetted the drone before squeezing the trigger to project a single pulsed charge which slammed into it's chest, disabling it in an instance. Dillan and Sanderson followed suit, each hitting the drones in unison to send them backwards into the bulkheads. They had seemingly adapted and yet the shots had scored.....the chips had worked! "Yee-haa", Borg toast!", cried Dillan. Kowalski lowered his rifle and then turned it over to check the level indicators, then he righted it once more. "Well I'll be damned", said the MXO, then he opened a channel to the other team. "Kowalski to House, ears on buddy?" (Reply Houseman) "We took another three offline, looks like the chips are good... remind me to buy the Engineer a bevy in Ten Forwards when we're done will ya", said Kowalski. (Reply Houseman) "Are you at Primary power yet?", enquired the MXO. (Reply Houseman) "Keep me updated, looks like they may be communicating via some wierd data bursts.... plus I'm sure some may have taken off someplace", said Kowalski, referring now to the second sound they had heard. (Reply Houseman, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Sickbay – Ensign J.G. Tethys - 19:00) D’Alin was sitting at her desk reviewing her PADD and trying to deal with all the paperwork she had accumulated since she’d arrived. Between the transfers and posting documentation, and getting settled and equipped and moved into her quarters, she was amazed just how quickly it had added up. She’d barely had a chance to meet with the Captain when she arrived as he’d been in a conference with StarFleet when she’d arrived, and they’d embarked on their mission shortly afterwards. As for CMO Williams, her first impression had been how very young he was. Although she looked like a teenager, D’Alin felt every one of her 36 years standing in front of the young man. She remembered how slender he’d seemed and his height had only heightened that impression. It wasn’t often that she had to look up at someone and it made a nice change. Despite the small smile on his lips as he’d greeted her, he’d seemed a little sad. His eyes had been sad, and had reminded her of her mother’s when D’Alin had caught her remembering her father and the course their lives had taken as a result of that meeting. Not that she’d ever let her mom know she’d witnessed those moments. ~Speaking of Mom, don’t you think you owe her more than a hurried “Hi Mom, I arrived safely” note? She is probably checking her communicator every day in case you’ve sent something more substantial.~ Great, now she was sending herself on a guilt trip. Her mother would be so proud… ~When I get more settled and this mission is over, I’ll send her a long mail. She’ll be so sick of me by the time she’s finished reading it, that she’ll be glad not to hear from me for a few weeks.~ She smiled ironically at the thought, knowing that even she didn’t believe that for one minute… Shaking her head, she focused back on the paperwork in front of her, updating replicator requirements for additional stock and making sure everything was ready to be signed off asap. The sooner this was off her desk and she’d submitted all the relocation documentation back to Starfleet the happier she’d be. She’d started settling into her quarters on Deck 3, well at least her uniforms were hanging up, and that had to count, surely. Everything else was still in bags and in the containers they’d arrived in, and the quarters still looking more like a holding cell than a home, but she’d get there. In the meantime, there was more than enough to keep her busy. Although she had only the sketchiest details of the mission, having arrived on board so soon before departure and being only a junior officer, she knew that the Borg ship ominously close could not be a good thing. The kids on earth used to tease one another with morbid tales of the Borg and the bloodthirsty assimilation rituals they indulged in. Despite knowing that most of it was the pure fanciful imaginings of young children, D'Alin remembered the many nights she'd hidden at the bottom of her bed, under the blankets, in case the Borg came to assimilate her in her sleep. After all, if they couldn't find her... Pushing the thought of the Borg vessel from her mind and the all too human chills that the thought invoked in her, D’Alin continued with the replicator replenishment orders, her hair falling into her face, obscuring the screen until, with an utterance of annoyance, she reached into her drawer, and grabbed the clip she’d learnt to keep with her at all times and in a familiar, automatic gesture, secured her hair behind her head. Satisfied, she returned to the task at hand, aware of the hum which always permeated the Sickbay, no matter how quiet or empty it may appear. It was almost as though the Sickbay was always ready, always waiting to spring into action, suspended in time between one emergency and the next. With a sigh, knowing that her fanciful wanderings were an indication that she was losing focus and getting tired, she pinched her nose with her index finger and thumb, as she leaned back and closed her eyes for a moment. (Reply: Any/None) (Posted by Sherri Pretorius) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 19:01) So far so good.... The Marines had communicated their contact with the Borg but for the moment anyway, it seemed that everything had gone to plan the Borg vessel remaining precisely as it was, stationary and inert, sitting there in the same position as it had been upon their arrival. Then it all changed. "What was that?", exclaimed the CO in response to a sudden discharge of gas from the topside of the Borg ship followed by what appeared to be a smaller spherical vessel of some kind ejecting at great speed. (Reply Tactical) The Captain turned towards the mission specialist, an enquiring look upon his face. "Could it be an escape pod?", he asked. Gunnell turned to the Tactical officer and asked for clarification on the configuration before committing herself. (Reply Tactical) The Captain had actually frowned at that, the configuration had matched an earlier seen vessel and it was not good. If the data was correct then with their communications down, the Borg might now be trying to contact their collective personally, and worse, this ships configuration signalled that they might do that in the past! "Signal the Marines that they are on their own for the time, inform them that we shall return shortly", said the Captain. (Reply Comms, Any) "Helm, plot a pursuit course on the Borg Sphere, prepare to go to warp on my mark.... match speed to the hostile", said the Captain. (Reply Helm) "Mark"..... There is a Borg vessel here but it appears to be a smaller scout vessel rather then a larger tactical cube.” “We have moved under multi phasic cloak as per the Captain’s orders and have positioned ourselves a few hundred meters away from the Borg. This was done to facilitate deployment of an EVA squad of marines under Major Kowalski's command. Their mission is to disable the Borg communications array and power grid, this should hopefully disable the vessel and stop them from getting reinforcements via communication to the collective. It should be noted that objective one has now been achieved." “From the reports coming back from the marines, Ensign Talbot‘s rolling code modulation enhancement chip for the phasers appears to be working a treat but on the down side, a small spherical vessel has ejected from the Borg vessel. Captain T’Vhor has laid in a pursuit course, I can only hope that we get it before it can make contact with the collective.” “Upon our return, and once we receive confirmation that the Marines have achieved their secondary objective of bringing the power grid down, we have a security detail led by Lieutenant Donaldson ready to beam over to assist them…. [End log, Confirmed log entry, Up load to main file] (Reply None) (Posted by Robbie) (Borg Vessel - Rejeneration Alcove - 2 0f 3, Secondary Adjunct, Unimatrix Zero One - 19:03) The commands had been sporadic, interspersed as they were with broken and missing data which failed on cyclic redundancy check at increasingly regular levels. It was most unusual and not expected at all but the neural response within the drones head was as expected as it possibly could be. Primary power failed.....unable to re-route secondary backup.....initiate all nodes in preparation for incursion.... Activate! The drones eyes flickered open, it's arm twitched and then extended, each of the tool-like extentions at it's end coming to life as it took a step forwards from the alcove and onto the gridded metal floor plates of the Borg vessel with a metallic clank. It's head turned first to the left, then to the right in an attempt to correlate the audible input to solid electrical data, but all around there was chaos.... and no collective. It was utterly pointless of course, the ships active communications were now offline and for the first time ever, the drone felt...isolated. The voices in it's head were becoming more infrequent and whereas before thousands upon thousands of instructs could be heard in any given second, now there were less than twenty. Something was seriously wrong! With lumbering movements, 2 of 3 made it's way along the corridor towards the source of the last complete burst of data. Analysis - Federation phasor fire.....then it stopped and attempted lock-on with it's nearest cohorts. Still no valid data, then all of a sudden an audible burst identifying as tertiary backup communications echoed throughout the vessel to update those drones still online of the current situation. Vessel breach.... Primary communications bus offline...intruder alert.... seek and assimilate. The drone moved again, stepping over two other drones that now lay incapacitated and offline on the decking with little concern. Then came a second audible data burst, incomprehensible to Humanoid ears of course but of perfect clarity to Borg external sensors. Initiate zero zero protocol.... unit compliance is necessary.... all other priorities are countermanded. As a direct response, 2 of 3 turned about and then headed towards the lower levels of the vessel, it's mission now to initiate manual self destruct whilst in the distance came the sound of more phasor fire resulting in the voices in 2 of 3's central processor diminishing one by one as the requisite drones went quickly offline. Adaptations ineffective....zero zero protocol is now priority one. Had that come from the collective, or was it something within? The disconnected drone was unable to process the information reliably and it's core Human female design was completely ineffective, it therefore took the logical approach and continued on until it had reached it's last actioned goal, namely the warp/fusion hybrid reactor on level one where it then interfaced with the CPU at that node and began parsing instructs to effect the desired objective. Manually, this would take some time of course but the drone was now single minded in it's approach, all priorities had been resended, 2 of 3's identification had been recognised and all other drones were now aware of this via a third data burst. All the drone had to do now was continue unseen whilst the rest of it's unit kept the intruders away. (Reply Any, None) (Posted by Alan) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix Zero Nine - Primary Adjunct, 2 of 4 - 19:04) The Drones eye's widened. Several other drones in the area were regenerating in their alcoves but he had been chosen as the best possible scout to discover the nature of the alien presence on the vessel. Tertiary Adjunct, 4 of 5 had encountered the threat and not reported to the collective. ~Need more data to assess the threat ... maintain ship hull integrity ... eliminate or assimilate ... resistance ...~ the orders came through into his primary node inmere moments. The marines could look after themselves, they were trained for this type of thing. "Helm, plot a pursuit course on the Borg Sphere, prepare to go to warp on my mark.... match speed to the hostile", Jennifer looked up from her console as her hands danced over it. She fired the manoeuvring thrusters to get some distance from the Borg vessel. She then fired up the impulse engines and spun the Spectre in the direction of the fleeing Sphere. “Plotting pursuit course now, matching hostiles course and speed Sir.” She entered the course as she increased the impulse power to the engines as they rushed after their target "Mark"..... ~You can run but you can’t hide~ She hit the warp engine ignition button and suddenly the Spectre leaped forward into warp persuing their prey. When primary power finally fell, it would be their task to secure the ship and seeing as Housemans team were now in position and had engaged the Borg whilst O'Hara performed his particular brand of magic, that time was fast approaching. Having just engaged and dispatched their own little welcoming party, Kowalski paused as his coms chirped to life. =/\=Spectre to Marine One, come in Marine One.=/\= "Go ahead Spectre", said Kowalski, halting his team. =/\=We have a Borg Sphere making a break for it and we are persuing. (Reply None) (Posted by Alan) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix Zero One - MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski - 19:08) "Copy that, time to storm", said the MXO as he signalled his compatriots to take and secure the Borg bridge. Dillan was the first one in, rolling silently across the floor and coming to an upright halt immediately behind one of the control consoles, he then signalled back to Kowalski, four fingers raised in the air with a subsequent point in two directions to indicate where the Borg were situated, and precisely which he had specifically chosen to target. Kowalski raised three fingers of his right hand and then raised it palm facing inwards before moving it down in a chopping motion to indicate that they were to go on three. Dillan nodded accordingly and then readied his weapon. At that precise moment, two of the Borg were standing at one of the forward control booths, a display before it showing a tactical representation of a non-descript vessel upon it. Had they seen the Spectre? One could only wonder, with no power to fuel their weapons array though it made little difference. On the count of one the Marines then made their move, Kowalski leaned around the door frame and targetted the two drones before the panel in an instance, Sanderson took the remaining one whilst Dillan took the two away to the left. It may have been an easier job to just toss a grenade in and be done with it of course but for some reason, the Spectre's CO had requested the bridge and as much of the ship as possible, intact for subsequent observation. Six phasor bursts into the room at the desired locations took care of that very nicely, the Borg falling to the floor in undignified heaps, unable now to successfully adapt to the modified Federation phasor fire.... and that was it. The bridge had been taken. "Assimilate that", said Dillan as he glanced to the gridded decking at the dead drones now laying upon it. Kowalski moved in and quickly began accessing the terminals the best he was able in an attempt to try and figure out what the Borg had been up to, it seemed that at that point anyway they may have been trying to initiate a self destruct routine, but apparently the neccesary power feeds had been inexplicably disabled! O'Hara and his magic no less! "Okay, we're not done yet lads.", said Kowalski, "Remember, there are probably at least eight more drones to contend with, assuming that they all didn't go off in the sphere that is", he added as he opened a comm to Houseman. "Kowalski to Houseman" (Reply Houseman) "We've taken the bridge House, all we gotta do now is round up what's left of the natives. Be sure to watch your back bud", said the Major. "Helmsman, Increase to maximum warp" (Reply Helm) "Range to target?", said the Captain, again addressing his question to the TAC officer. (Reply Ranae) They were gaining, but would there be enough time? It was beginning to look likely that their best option was to fire a spread of quantum torpedoes and simply hope for the best, so with that in mind, the Captain ordered it so almost at the precise moment that the Tactical officer reported a weapons lock. (Reply Ranae, IYW) "Fire torpedoes", ordered the Captain and all at once, four full yield Quantums streaked ahead of the ship and detonated in quick succession. The bridge then fell silent just for a moment. The Captain then turned his attention towards the Tactical officer once more. "Lieutenant?", he enquired. (Reply Ranae) This was not what he had wanted to hear at all. With no debris floating ahead of them, either the sphere had been completely vapourised or it had initiated a jump seconds before their Quantums had actually detonated. The Captain ordered a second full sweep of the area just to be sure. (Reply Ranae, IYW) "I have nothing on my screen either Captain", said Gunnell disappointedly, "I am however detecting residual anti-protons in a state of quantum flux", she added. "Then it's possible that they may have time jumped", stated the Captain. "That, or there was a temporal anomoly in this location anyway", offered Gunnell as a logical afterthought. The Captain took a deep breath, then seeing no alternative he addressed the helm. "Aaargh!", cried the Marine as he spun about and then butted the drone repeatedly in the face with his III-C until it fell back against the bulkhead, it's proximal sensor equipment now permanently offline. "No rebuild for you my friend", said Richards with a frown as he pumped two phasor rounds into the Borgs chest and then began firing at the next nearest drone along with O'Hara and Houseman, completely uaware now that Borg nanites were now circulating within his bloodstream intent on turning him into one of the natives himself of course. O'Hara though surely had spotted it and once this particular little firefight was at an end, he quickly drew the Marines attention to his ripped sleeve and the small amount of blood now trickling from it. "Jeeezus H christ!", cried Richards as he threw his weapon to the floor in anger before tearing the material of his jacket to reveal the extent of his injury. It did not look good, already the tell tale blue lines indicative of Borg nanite activity were evident upon the surface of his skin. He looked to Houseman and O'Hara the confusion now evident upon his pain wracked features. "You gotta cut it off guys!", cried Richards, "Take it off now!" Both Houseman and O'Hara shook their heads in denial but both knew he was right and that they would have to act fast if they were to save him. O'Hara quickly removed his kit roll and knelt down beside Richards where he now sat propped up against a bulkhead, then he drew out a laser cutting tool and activated it, setting the depth to six inches before moving it towards Richards' arm. Corporal Richards drew his knife from his ankle and then placed the handle inbetween his teeth before biting down hard as O'Hara tied a tourniquet around his upper arm, then he turned to O'Hara. "Ok, do it man...do it", said Richards. O'Hara looked up to Houseman who was busy keping an eye out for more drones whilst he readied himself for this little bout of DIY surgery. "Signal the Spectre House, inform them that we have a casualty needing beamout directly to sickbay", said O'Hara. (Reply Houseman) O'Hara then returned his attention to his fallen comrade whilst the transport arrangements were duly made. "You ready mate?", he enquired. Richards nodded, beads of sweat now breaking out upon his forehead. "Just do it man", he said, " doc'll fix me up with a new one soon enough", he added, forcing a smile now. O'Hara then acquiesced. The mans lower arm fell to the floor within two seconds, the beam of the laser cutting tool slicing quickly through bone and flesh so as to effectively cauterise vessels and arteries in an instance. There was little blood but Richards lost consciousness pretty quickly and as O'Hara stepped back, he dematerialised as the Spectre's transport beam took a hold of him and then whisked him away to the medical team now standing by. O'Hara sighed heavilly and glanced at the now Borgified severed arm upon the decking, he picked up his weapon and then stood, readying it to his shoulder as he did so. "Ready House?", he enquired. (Reply Houseman) "Then let's finish this", said O'Hara. (Reply Houseman, Any on Spectre) (Posted by Alan) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix Zero Six, Level four - Cprl Houseman - 19:14) Houseman lowered his pistol as he watched as the last drone dropped heavily to the ground. He moved closer and shot it again just to make sure that it was not going to get up again. ~Well you not so nasty are you~ "Jeeezus H christ!", Houseman spun round to see Richards fling his weapon to the ground and begin to tear at his arm. As Houseman reached Richards and O’Hara he could see the blue pulsating lines of Borg nanites as they began to track up his arm. ~No not like this~ "You gotta cut it off guys!", cried Richards, "Take it off now!" ~You can just F**K off with that idea mate~ Houseman shook his head. He was not going to do it even if it was the right idea. Houseman watched with twisted curiosity as O’Hara got out his laser cutting tool and prepared it. "Ok, do it man...do it", Houseman looked back along the corridor. Partly so that he could make sure that the drones would not come back and also he really did not want to match. "Signal the Spectre House, inform them that we have a casualty needing beamout directly to sickbay", Houseman nodded and took a few steps away and activated his comm system. “Marine Houseman to Spectre. Man down. I repeat man down.” (Reply Spectre) Houseman kept his voice calmed and controlled. This was no time to flap. The Spectre needed all the information so that they could act accordingly. “Marine Richards, serious limb trauma, unconscious, in shock but breathing.” (Reply Spectre) Houseman watched as Richards dematerialised. He then pulled out his tricorder and then readied his pistol. "Ready House?", he enquired. “Yep.” "Then let's finish this", said O'Hara. “Damn sure.” Houseman moved forward scanning the corridor in front of him as he tried to spot any drones he could kill. They had made it through several junctions when Houseman stopped and stared hard at the tricorder. “O’Hara, look at this.” He showed O’Hara the tricorder. “This is us, that’s the major and those are the other drones trying to get him. But there is one drone on its own moving in the other direction. What would you think its destination was?” (Reply O’Hara) Houseman felt a cold chill pass through his body. “Looks like we had better stop it.” (Reply O’Hara) (Reply O’Hara, Spectre) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - Bridge – FO, Williams/CONN Pilot Officer Smith - 19:15) "Helmsman, Increase to maximum warp" ”Aye Sir. Tethys - 19:17) D’Alin was still busy massaging the bridge of her nose, trying to stem the threatening headache when her comm. badge chirped. She pressed it with her free hand, wondering who would be looking for her. Most of the crew didn’t even know she existed yet, and those that did were a little occupied and unlikely to be trying to contact her. “Tethys here” (Reply Nurse Douwsy) “On my way.” Her impending headache immediately forgotten, D’Alin stood, walking briskly to the main area of sickbay, mentally checking off what she’d possibly need. All she knew was that they were to receive an emergency beam in from the Borg vessel. One of the marines apparently. ~I didn’t even know we had personnel on the ship. Although I suppose I should be glad they’re not sending me a Borg to de-assimilate.~ That was a very tricky procedure and she remembered all the horror stories in their medical rotation of what could go wrong when one tried to deintegrate human flesh and nano-technology. Especially with Borg technology, since they didn’t know as much about it as they would have liked and, like a parasite, it would often rather destroy the host than permit itself to be removed. Not to mention the psychological trauma a person faced afterwards. The one biobed was covered in a blue haze as the young man started materializing in the room, tearing her thoughts away from the morbid, & D’Alin grabbed a medical tricorder and started scanning the man on the bed, wishing that someone was able to give her more information. Nurse Douwsy covered Richards in a special blanket to reduce the effects of shock and to keep him warm, while D’Alin checked his vital signs. “What happened?” (Reply Douwsy) Although the amputation had been neatly done, and the blood vessels cleanly cauterized, Richards’ pulse was thready and there was a sheen of sweat on his brow. His skin was cold and clammy to the touch and his body was clearly in shock. ~A field amputation…can’t get much more serious then that…~ She grabbed a hypospray, which the very efficient nurse had already filled and placed it to the corporal’s neck, the reassuring hiss followed almost immediately by a slight improvement in vital signs. His pulse slowed, steadying and strengthening, his breathing deepened and slowed and his body temperature rose slightly, as the blood moved away from the organs, and started flowing more freely. Now that the most immediate problem was past, D’Alin started examining the amputation. The blood vessels had withdrawn into the stump & the bone was leaking marrow, despite the cauterization. She re-cauterised, the smell of burning bone nauseating, but necessary. The wound was clean, with no signs of infection and no dirt or other foreign materials in the wound. Considering where the amputation had taken place, D’Alin was impressed. Once the patient was stabilized, and the wound cleaned and bandaged, D’Alin relaxed. He’d be okay, although there was still a long road ahead of him. Turning to the nurse, D’Alin spoke almost absent-mindedly, her brain running through the various permutations – all the things that needed to be done over the next few weeks and the possible outcomes. “Take a DNA sample and start preparing a biosynthetic limb, so that it’s ready once the counselor gives the all-clear for us to attach it. Also, we’ll need to organize a roster for his physiotherapy.” She made a note in his chart before turning away towards her office, sparing one more glance at the relaxed face on the biobed. He was in for a difficult few weeks, but the end result would be worth it, assuming there was no neural trauma with the new limb. Touching her comm. badge she contacted the ship’s morale officer. “Tethys to Kreung.” (Reply Kreung) “I’m going to need you to consult on a patient, Richards. He’s lost his arm and I need you to meet with him and provide counseling before signing off on his biosynthetic limb. Could you let me know when would be most convenient?” (Reply Kreung) “Thanks. I’d really appreciate that.” Closing the connection, she looked at the clock on her wall. A bit old-fashioned, she knew, but it allowed her to feel grounded. She was amazed how much time had passed in what had seemed such a brief space of time. (Reply Lorna, Robbie, Any) (Posted by Sherri Pretorius) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Six, Level Three - Cprl Lewis O'Hara - 19:18) The dots moving upon the III-C's TAC-Corder looked a little ominous right now, it appeared that there were still at least nine drones actively homing in on the MCO's team, but for some unknown reason the singleminded one still looked the most threatening right now. Houseman had asked O'Hara's opinion on that - why had it gone off on it's own like that, had something malfunctioned in it's head or was there something more afoot here? "Looks like we had better stop it", said Houseman. O'Hara furrowed his brow and wiped a bead of sweat away from his right temple with his hand, then he looked down the corridor in which they stood. "Maybe it's just blown a gasket or something", said Lewis, "the way I see it the MCO is in need of a hand right now, nine against three isn't the best of odds", he added. (Reply Houseman) Houseman was right of course, even though they had no reliable deck schematics from which to work from on this vessel, it was still the logical assumption that the single Borg now had a specific task in mind, and that would probably involve their atoms being scattered within the small section of space in which they all now were. Lewis scratched his head and bit at his lower lip, then he nodded. "Ok, let's go get the loner", he said before opening up a channel to their CO to inform him of their intentions. It seemed like the marines were succeeding with their mission. Then she was told to inform Lieutenant Donaldson to ready his team for departure and prepare to lower the cloak. "Aye Sir." Lt. Donaldson stepped up onto the platform and ordered the others to follow, the away team took their places preparing to energize. The new Ensign seemed to be ready standing on the pad behind Lt. (reply Kowalski) (posted by Anton) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix Zero One, Bridge - MXO, Major Bruce Kowalski - 19:37) Talbot had now earned himself a drink from pretty much every squad member of the MXO's team, six 'offline' drones laying in the corridor outside the Borg bridge being a veritable testament to why that was. With the Marine rifles now modulating at such a rate that the Borg adaptations were next to useless, it had been an easy task to dispatch each and every one that had arrived at their location with the intent to assimilate, deciphering the Borg data however was not so easy and as such, it was quickly deemed a job for the Spectre Science teams to unravel. Kowalski shook his head at the latest screen of indecipherable rubbish that scrolled up the screen of the console, then he removed the small oval shaped steel bar from his pocket and began flipping it end over end within his hand. (reply none, any) (posted by Anton) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Nine, level One - Cprl Lewis O'Hara - 19:38) This part of the Borg ship was decidely eerie to say the very least, it wasn't that the lighting had failed or even that the green glow of their night vision diopters had created this, no there was definately something different here. The air itself seemed a lot colder, chilled as it was below what would be expected of a normal Borg environment, it all pointed to one of two possibilities, either there was something going on here that required a lower temperature than anywhere else on the ship.... or with their power now down, the heating had simply gone off. Either way it was still eerie. O'Hara shivvered slightly as the cold hit him irrespective of the reasons why, then he continued on, the steady hum of the Borg warp/fusion plant throbbing in the background with an unearthly sound as it ticked over in it's now offloaded state, courtesy of Lewis's earlier tinkering on the higher decks of course. "This place stinks", said Lewis as he breathed the chilled air in through his nose whilst watching the rifle's TAC-Corder echoing the previous contact roughly twenty metres ahead of them now. (Reply Houseman, IYW) O'Hara readied his rifle and moved slowly onwards, just up around the bend and a little further, then they would catch their prize and put paid to whatever this little zombie had in mind. When they finally got there, the Borg drone was uncharacteristically on it's knees, it's right hand engaged into a data port of some sort whilst sequences of light ran in successive patterns on the panel immediately beside it. At this point of course, the Borg had not seen the approach of the Marines and for just a moment or two this afforded them a certain luxury of time, they chose to avail themselves of this to study what the drone was doing, their weapons already locked onto it's cranium of course and awaiting the final pull of the trigger that would decimate it's skull, and send it's insidious brain matter all over the equipment before it. O'Hara was positively itching now to put an end to it's miserable existence but for some unknown reason, he was actually enjoying the juxtaposition now being played out. Borg drones of course showed no emotions at all, they simply 'did' whatever was required, O'Hara had wanted to see the look of horror upon it's face as he took it offline, but that wasn't to be though, it just wasn't possible at all. O'Hara ended the little game. "Game over freak, time to pay the ferryman", said O'Hara as he centred the red dot of his phasor rifle at a point that would shatter the drones cerebral cortex. The drone immediately stopped, but only briefly as it turned it's head to view the two marines. It appeared unconcerned and silent, it's cold grey face impassive and fixed as it returned it's attention to the panel once more in an attempt to complete the task assigned to it. "What, no assimilation warning?", said O'Hara. Back along the corridor though and coming from behind them now, a few of the newly arrived Spectre Security officers had suddenly appeared, both Houseman and O'Hara acknowledged them briefly and then returned their attention to the Borg as it continued in it's task. "Hey guys", said O'Hara, "wanna see what Borg brain looks like when it's infested with nanites?", he added, without actually taking his attention away from the drone itself. Most of the Borg sensor data will be stored there," Peter said then continued, "Perhaps we will be able to ascertain the Borg intentions with the Subspace River." (reply Rodgers) Peter opened his tricorder and accessed a schematic of the vessel. (reply Rodgers, Kirien, any) (posted by Jonathon Alber) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Nine, level One - TAC/SC Charles "Chuck" Donaldson - 19:40) Chuck led the way for his team. They had split up into two groups one led by Chuck and the other led by Rogers. Chuck felt that would be the best option to avoid any leadership difficulties. Rameriz and Smith were following Chuck closely behind as he took point. He could see O'Hara in the distance down the corridor but couldn't tell what he was saying. Chuck saw that O'Hara had a weapon aimed right at a Borg drone and just in case the Marines were in trouble Chuck picked up his pace until he was just behind O'hara and the rest of the marine team. "This won't hurt a bit, girly." said O'hara settling his finger firmly inside the trigger guard. At that moment Chuck caught sight of the Drone's face. ~Judith!~ his mind shouted. "No!" Chuck shouted wrapping an arm around the barrel of the Marine's phaser rifle. It discharged into the wall but missed the drone. "We're here to gather technology. What better technology than to acquire a live borg drone." Chuck said trying to recover his former demeanor and hide the fact that the present drone was his wife. "But its close.” He covered O’Hara as he moved around the bend to where the drone was situated. He saw that the drone was on it's knees and it's right hand was engaged into a data port of some sort whilst sequences of light ran in successive patterns on the panel immediately beside it. "Game over freak, time to pay the ferryman", Houseman quickly scanned the area while O’Hara had the drone in his sights. It would not be good if they were caught unawares. "What, no assimilation warning?", said O'Hara. ~May be its trying to think up a come back from you witty comment~ Houseman looked back as a group of spectre security officers arrived. ~Ow look the cavalry have arrived. That’s nice~ "Hey guys", "wanna see what Borg brain looks like when it's infested with nanites?", said O'Hara, without actually taking his attention away from the drone itself. Donaldson had apruptly split up the away team. He felt a pain in his stomach that told him that he had been gaining some sort of reputation as a trouble magnent. After all, he had been arrested on Ushari Prime, and at the site of a major terrorist attack on Ushari Prime. No matter, Rogers turned back to the Ensign and the Counselor. "Keeping up back there?" he asked the two, hiking his phaser rifle up in the air? "Sir, I believe we should start our data collection at the primary computer core. Most of the Borg sensor data will be stored there. Perhaps we will be able to ascertain the Borg intentions with the Subspace River." The Ensign replied, Talbot, it was. Rogers stopped. "Where is it exactly," Rogers asked. He had examined the classified Borg dossier T'Vhor had requested, and knew that it was a good a start as any. Talbot yanked out his tricorder and quickly did a search. "The computer core is three decks up, we should be able to get there through that vertical crawl space." he said, indicating a narrow crawlspace at the end of the corridor. "Very well," Rogers said. "I'll take point. Talbot, you cover the rear. Kirien can come up in between us," he instructed. (reply Talbot, Kirien) Rogers led his team down the hall to the crawlspace, where he climbed in first. It was narrow and uncomfortable, obvisouly built for drones who don't care about such things. Strapping his phaser rifle over his shoulder, he started climbing up, passing a few hatchs to get off at the intermediate decks, he climbed off at the top most one. He got his phaser rifle out and leaned back down to the other two. "Clear up here," he said, and watched as they started making their way up. When they reached the tube Rogers climbed into and up the narrow space Talbot and Kirien watched the corridor for any sign of movement. "Clear up here," Rogers yelled down the shaft. Kirien began her ascent. Talbot waited a moment gazing down both directions of the corridor before looking up and starting his climb. Mid way up the shaft Peter noticed the quickly rising temperature, he increased his rate of climb. In a trice, this particular drone would have been taken permanently 'offline' and yet, it seemed that it wasn't meant to be. The moment the weapon had discharged it's pulsed beam, it's barrel had been yanked forcibly to one side resulting in a disintegrated bulkhead which was now in the process of arcing and smouldering. O'Hara turned to the culprit, his face a mask of angst now at being denied his kill. "Damn you Donaldson!", he cried, "now there's a hole in the wall where a hole should not be", he added, lowering his rifle and then turning to face the Security chief with a stance that looked as though he meant to rip the Borg hybrids head from his shoulders. "We're here to gather technology", said Donaldson, "What better technology than to acquire a live borg drone." O'Hara screwed up his face and then shook his head. "Excuse me!", he said in disbelief, "have you entirely lost your grey matter Mr Donaldson", he added emphasizing the word 'Mr' as he did so. (Reply Donaldson) Again the Marine shook his head, he wasn't quite sure where the Chief was coming from but if he were entirely honest, he had begun to wonder whether this was something to do with the mans own Borg heritage. "So what next, shall we take it home and bake it a cake, hold a party for the damned thing?", said Lewis incredulously. The Captain though had been quick to move on it, if they were going to be receiving a drone then proper containment would be necessary, so with that in mind, he opened a channel to sickbay. "Captain to sickbay" (Reply Tethys) "I need you to establish a secure containment area Ensign, with access to full bio-diagnostics and neural interfacing at a cellular level", said the Captain. It was a stupid thought of course but then, H'Chir did have a tendency towards the strange at times, a direct result of the mind destruction he had received at the hands of the Romulans during the Betazed fiasco perhaps? To be truthful, the repetitive data running up the left most terminal of her console was driving her stir crazy and she needed to get out there. "Captain", she said turning her attention away from the terminal now and towards the CO. "I need to get on board that vessel now", she added motioning to the viewscreen and the ship displayed upon it as she spoke, "in short, I need to know exactly what the Borg have been doing in regards the river itself and to what extent they have been doing it....and I can't do that from here" The Captain furrowed his brow, what she was asking made perfect sense of course but as a civilian, she could still prove to be a liability in a possibly hostile environment. Scientists rarely worked within constraints of safety when they were as driven as Gunnell clearly was, and the thought of her straying somewhere she was not supposed to be did not sit well with him. That said though, the Captain gave a cautious nod to her request. "Very well Doctor, but I will not permit you to go alone", he said, "and you will be accompanied by security at all times" Gunnell gave a sort of half smile and then stood from the console, brushing a stray hair from her eyes as she did so. "Consider it done Doctor", said the Captain, "I'll arrange for Lieutenant Amari to meet you in transporter room one for beamout" Gunnell nodded and gave a cursory 'thank you', and then headed off the bridge as the CO opened a channel to the accompaniment of the hiss of the turbolift doors as Dr Gunnell departed. "After encountering the Borg vessel whilst still under phased cloak, we dispatched an EVA team of marines to covertly board the ship by way of a portable boarding tube, the 'Can Opener' as the Marines affectionately like to term it. The operation was a success but during their mission to incapacitate the Borg Communications array and main power systems, a small Sphere ejected in an attempt to remotely re-establish a link with the collective. I gave the order to pursue the sphere but despite our best efforts to destroy it, it seems that it may have initiated a time jump" "The unusually configured Borg vessel however has now been secured and a small number of drones taken aboard the Spectre for further data retrieval. Attempts are also under way by Doctor Gunnell, our mission specialist to establish data linkup with the Borg ships main database. My thoughts though are still of the Sphere and where, or when it might re-emerge" "End log... append to existing" [Log entry confirmed] The Captain then opened a channel to 52nd fleet command, a straight faced Admiral by the name of Jefferson appearing upon the screen to greet him. "Admiral", said T'Vhor with a courteous bow of his head. "Captain T'Vhor", said the Admiral, "I trust that you are furnishing us with good news about the Borg threat", he added, his expression one of hope now. "Indeed", said the Captain, "the Borg vessel has been neutralized, a number of drones having been removed for analysis and data cross checking with the recovered computer core once access is confirmed", he added. "However, I am concerned about the Sphere ejected from the ship itself, it was fired upon and apparently hit during our pursuit, but it is possible that it may have time jumped", said the Captain. Jefferson furrowed his brow, his head shaking from left to right in the process at the news. "Not good, not good at all Captain.... I trust that you have in place contingencies for this occurrence, if the sphere is going to materialize, it will no doubt do so at a point that will cause the maximum disturbance to your mission, perhaps at a point before your arrival there even", said the Admiral. Captain T'Vhor raised an eyebrow in typical Vulcan manner. "So long as we are still in existence sir, then it is logical to assume that that has not occurred", he said. "Doesn't mean that it won't Captain", said Jefferson gruffly, "it's a pity it wasn't destroyed before it had the chance to jump", he added. "Indeed", agreed the Captain. "Well, it's done now, let's hope that it was at least damaged enough for it not to be able to initiate another jump after it arrived wherever it now is", said Jefferson wryly. "I have another matter for you Captain", he added almost as an afterthought. "Sir?", said T'Vhor quizzically. "Lieutenant Commander Rogers, SFI man, regular pain in the butt from what I understand and currently serving on your bird", said the Admiral. T'Vhor quirked his head slightly to one side at the Admirals somewhat colourful summing up of his old friends character. It was true that Rogers had ruffled a few feathers along his career path yes but....'Pain in the butt?' "A fine officer sir, prone to.... practical jokes yes, but nonetheless an asset to the ship, despite one or two misappropriations", said the Captain in an attempt at defending the erstwhile Rogers. "Whatever", said the Admiral curtly, "well he's coming home, seems the brass at SFI are writing him off and sending him out to pasture", he added. The Captain quirked his head once again, his brow furrowing slightly at the news. "Sir? I'm not sure I understand. Lieutenant Commander Rogers is one of the finest officers I have served with, surely there has been some mistake", said the Captain. Admiral Jefferson simply shook his head and repeated that command had requested that he return for debrief and subsequent dismissal, with appropriate honours of course. Captain T'Vhor took a deep breath and then settled back into his chair, clearly the news had not sat well with him. He pondered the situation for a while, then he leaned forwards towards the monitor. "Sir, I am currently without a Strategic Operations Officer in a situation where it would be an asset to have one on board", he stated. This time it was Jefferson's eyebrow that raised. "And your point Captain?", he enquired. T'Vhor settled back into his seat once again, the fingers of each hand coming into contact with their opposites in front of his chest as he did so. "Lieutenant Commander Rogers once occupied the First Officers position on Spectre, he is a highly capable strategic analyst, exemplified I may add by a wealth of material gained whilst working in the capacity of intelligence officer with Starfleet intelligence", said the Captain. Jefferson huffed disapprovingly and slumped in his own chair. "You still haven't made your point Captain, what is it you are suggesting?", he asked. "That he may be retained on board the Spectre as StratOps Officer sir", said the Captain, "I do have need of a StratOps", he added. "Rogers!... as your StratOps Captain, the man is a trouble magnet, he finds it even when not looking", said the Admiral, "but........", he added exhaling heavily now. "....if you want him, I'll clear it with command and make the necessary arrangements", he added, "but on your own head be it" "Thank you sir", said the Captain, "I will inform the Lieutenant Commander of this the moment he returns from the Borg vessel" "Rogers is on the Borg ship!", exclaimed the Admiral, "Jesus, have you checked that it's still there!", he added with a laugh. The Admiral was now laughing at his own joke, a joke lost on the logic of the Vulcan hybrid CO of course, the end result though was a hopeful one. It had seemed that Rogers' career might then have very nearly been over but with the intervention of his CO, it seemed that it might have actually been given a new lease of life. The Captain could only hope that Rogers didn't let him down on that..... "Keep me informed of your progress Captain", said the Admiral, his expression a little more composed now, "especially if that sphere turns up again", he added. "Jefferson out" "Yes sir", said the Captain and the monitor then returned to the familiar Starfleet crest it showed whilst inactive. (Reply None) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - Ensign J.G. Tethys - 20:08) “Dr Tethys. Do you mind if I give you a hand?” D'Alin looked up at the FO, realizing how awkward it must feel for him to be in what was once his domain and which he probably still felt proprietary about. She'd been doing her homework since she arrived and she knew a bit more about him than she had initially. "I'd be honoured Sir. My knowledge of the Borg is strictly theoretical or simulated in the Holodeck. Any assistance or advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated." (Reply Williams) She smiled, feeling relatively confident that she'd dealt with any potential awkwardness. Her words however had been completely sincere. She'd learnt the value of being willing to learn from those with more experience and was looking forward to the opportunity. Her smile completely lit up her face, the emotion in stark contrast to her Vulcan ears. The contrast was often shocking to people, even those that had known her for a while, a fact she was usually painfully aware of. But this time, she was excited at the prospect of working with the FO and the initial panic stages had worn off now that the drone was unconscious and not likely to be breaking down her sickbay. "Do you have any idea why exactly they've brought this drone here? And what they want from it...her?" She corrected herself as the tricorder indicated that the drone was definitely female. (Reply Williams) "I'm not entirely sure what we should do with her other than keep her sedated and stable. She's in pretty good condition, considering." Her eyes gazed at the face before her, serenely biological on the one side and mechanized on the other. ~What are you dreaming of? Do you dream? Is there a part of you that remembers? Some small part of you that screams silently but no one can hear... lost in that noise that is the Collective?~ She wished she could ask her questions, that there was a way to truly know, but it was highly unlikely. (Reply Williams) (Posted by Sherri) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - CEO, Lt H'Chir - 20:10) An Ensign passed by in the corridor as the Andorian made his way to the sickbay entrance, his curious gaze initiated by the fact that the CEO was now singing. Had anyone actually heard him sing before? That was a good question, H'Chir had oft times been noted to be grumpy, blunt and let's face it, altogether a little strange.... but singing! "Blue blue electric blue, that's the colour of my mind, where I will live.....blue blue", he sang, just as he entered sickbay with a slightly quickened step to be confronted with the sight of a lone Borg laying on a table over to the left of the isolation area, flanked as it was by the FO and a certain Vulcan hybrid Ensign. "Oh my, is that a Borg I spy, I do declare it certainly is", said H'Chir as he walked closer to the First Officer and the lovely, but slightly unnerved Ensign Tethys. (Reply Tethys IYW, Williams IYW) "Someone ordered a forcefield, complicated in nature and as Blue as can be", said H'Chir, whose expression suddenly turned to one of slight confusion, "....or was it Green", he asked rhetorically. "No matter, a forcefield is a forcefield and a forcefield is precisely what you shall have Ensign Tethys, whatever colour it happens to be", said the CEO. Both Tethys and Williams cast the Andorian a look that quite simply questioned the mans sanity right now, prompted no doubt by his somewhat odd behaviour no less. (Reply Tethys, Williams, Either, Both) H'Chir quirked his head and then reached up to tweak an errant antennae as it seemingly flinched in a manner not unlike a nervous twitch, then he walked to the bulkhead nearby to where the isolation area was situated and opened up a panel, layed down his toolkit and began poking about within the now exposed EPS power taps and ODN shunts. "I'm just going to tap into the EPS system nodes and run an interface link to the beam emitters", said H'Chir as he quickly placed a small black object into the ODN flow capacitors output line, and then established a link via the re-routed gates. "I can give you multiphasic shielding within a two metre proximity of our.....", he added, pausing now to look at the female Borg layed upon the table, inert and apparently devoid of any need to assimilate. "...our friend here", said H'Chir motioning towards the drone with a nod of his head before continuing on with a series of tests on the interface device. (Reply Tethys) Now that was a good point and one certainly worth elaborating upon. A biological filter would be a necessity if the medics were to be able to do their jobs correctly and interact with the Borg herself....itself, the last thing they wanted was for the thing to be able to overload the forcefield and go a wandering throughout the ship. The Captain certainly would not be pleased! "The interface link will take care of this, the resultant field will be exponentially hi-lo variable and adaptive both in intensity and to the operator, whilst hindering anything containing nanites", said H'Chir, "which reminds me...", he added as an afterthought, "...better not let Lieutenant Donaldson work with her" (Reply Tethys, Williams, Any) H'Chir ran a small probe across the primary EPS node to activate the adaptation and the field suddenly shimmered into view around the table, then it fluctuated before stabilizing. He then closed the panel and stepped through the field with ease before backing out of it again to address Tethys. "Do you have a nanite sample at all?", he asked. (Reply Tethys) H'Chir took the offered sample and then walked back towards the table, again with ease before turning about and attempting to exit. At that point the field intensified and glowed a brighter shade of blue as the nanite sample prevented the CEO from leaving the area. "Voila", he said jubilantly before placing the sample down onto the floor and then exiting safely without a problem. "Is there anything else I can help either of you with?", asked H'Chir. (Reply Tethys, Williams, Any) "Then I will bid you good day", said the Andorian as he executed a perfect, but almost comical bow before turning about and then heading back towards the door from whence he had first entered. "Blue blue electric blue......." (Reply Tethys, Williams, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Sickbay – FO, Williams - 20:10) “Dr Tethys. Do you mind if I give you a hand?” "I'd be honoured Sir. My knowledge of the Borg is strictly theoretical or simulated in the Holodeck. Any assistance or advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated." Andrew nodded and gave a small smile. He was glad that she had accepted his offer. It would have been a bit had for him to be told that he would not been needed in sickbay. That was something he would have to get use to but not today. “This is a new area for me to. I did a bit of research on the Borg on the way here but there is nothing that compares to actually doing something in person.” If he had to admit it to himself he was looking forward "Do you have any idea why exactly they've brought this drone here? And what they want from it...her?" Andrew paused for a moment as the drone went from being at it to a her. It may have not been a big grammar difference but it was humongous to Andrew and how he treated the patient. “She was brought here at the request of Lieutenant Donaldson and that’s all I know.” Andrew paused as he looked at what once was a woman in front of him. Different scenarios whizzed through his mind verging from the horrendous to the compassionate. "I'm not entirely sure what we should do with her other than keep her sedated and stable. She's in pretty good condition, considering." He thought as he looked down at the woman again.. “We could ask her?” He quickly carried on as the idea formed in his mind. “From what I can tell as the Borg vessel is not connected to the collective any more then they would not have any control over her. We could bring her round and see if there was any of the origional person there." He looked over to Tethys to see what she thought about the idea. “But just like with any unknown situation doing something because we can, is not always the right option.” (Reply Tethys) (Reply Tethys, any) (Posted by Robbie) (Borg Vessel - Unimatrix One Four, Level Four - Primary Computer Core - ACEO Ensign Peter Talbot - 20:15) At the end of the access tunnel Peter linked the data storage device to his tricorder and began downloading the Borg sensor data from their main computer core. After a moment Peter realized how massive the amounts of data were before him. Peter tapped his combadge and said, "Talbot to Rogers." (reply Rodgers) "Sir, we need to set up a link to the Spectre's main computer and upload all this data. There is just no way to physically carry this quantity on portable devices. Ensign Talbot suggests uploading it to the Spectre's computer core," Rogers said. (reply T'Vhor) "I suggest we partition the Borg data away from everything else on the Spectre's core," Rogers said. "Captain, you and I both read the classified Borg dossier. An whole image of an intact Borg data core is very rare, and while the data would be raw and unprocessed, it would advance Starfleet's knowlege on the Borg and the rest of the Galaxy by a few hundred years, at least," Rogers said. Both Rogers and Talbot seemed a little concerned about the amount of data they had actually found on board the Borg vessel, and there was also some concern about the safety of utilising the only viable storage medium to store it all, the Spectre's computer core itself! =/\=I suggest we partition the Borg data away from everything else on the Spectre's core.... "Agreed, Doctor Gunnell is on her way over now, I'll see to it that she knows where to find you. She will be the best to advise on this right now", said the Captain. "Has Ensign Talbot given a timespan for data retrieval at all?", asked the Captain, the resultant conversation between the two officers being clearly heard over the open comms now. =/\=How long will it take you, Ensign?=/\= Asked Rogers. (Reply Talbot, Rogers) "Understood", said the Captain as he began to think back to the previous communication with Admiral Jefferson and the ramifications of that on Rogers future career path. Everything was done and out in the open. He had kept it as long as he could but the secret came out when the Captain expressed concern. "Ah, Judith, what the hell am I supposed to do?" he said talking to the near lifeless 'resting' borg drone that vaguely resembled her former self. Dr. Gunnel had run a few tests and medical staff had made her comfortable but nothing definitive was yet known. People had had their implants removed or suppressed successfully for many years but the concern was still there in the back of his mind. His own separation from the hive had nearly cost him his memory. ~What will she be like now?~ he wondered, ~she may be fine but on the other hand she may be completely different.~ He could end her suffering right now with a few button presses and no one would be the wiser. Christ! He was thinking about killing his own wife! He had to save her ... no matter the cost. The Captain hadn't been very clear on Chuck's fate which was unusual for the Vulcan. Chuck guessed that maybe he had lost someone before. At any rate Judith was safe and with him for now.
