Barac each time nodded and signaled for the Civilian to wait, then proceeded into the rooms. He searched each room cautiously, but with as much speed as he felt was safe. The first rooms he searched were non-descript and just functional. As they moved along the rooms got fancier and more resplendent. The Pursuer obviously found it distasteful for Barac to enter them. Barac checked the time and began to hurry the Pursuer along between rooms. When the last room was searched Barac had been at it just over twenty-five minutes. Barac knew from his classes that most cargo containers were sealed from the outside once the manifest was cleared. That was mostly done to protect the carriers from legal action if the cargo was not as it was suppose to be. It was said to be for the security of the customer. The manifest showed the ones here were sealed before the current problem occurred. The last pre-lift inspection showed they were still sealed. He tapped his comm badge =^= Commander Capps, no luck in the passenger area, should I proceed to the cargo holds?=^= Time would be important soon, they could be at the next ship down the line in the time it took to check the seals here. (Reply Capps) Barac checked the ship list and realized only one ship had recently docked, it was not due to leave for nearly a week. The Courier ship "High Stakes" had been here only a few days and had docked for some minor repairs. Crew listed at ten and two passengers, both were female. Barac had a good feeling about this boat. =^=Commander Capps, I have a hunch, would you like to hear it?=^= (Reply Capps) (reply Capps) (posted by Raymond) (Tular Varnei – Deck 4 – TAC/SC, Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps - 07:36) =^= Commander Capps, no luck in the passenger area, should I proceed to the cargo holds?=^= “I believe moving on to the cargo holds would be prudent.” =^=Commander Capps, I have a hunch, would you like to hear it?=^= “I am all ears,” Calvin responded. (reply Storm) (posted by Calvin) (Starbase 24 - Leprechaun O'Malley's Bar - Barkeep, Happy O'Toole - 07:36) "You look like you could do with some company. May I join you?", said Happy, to which the recipient of the remark turned somewhat confused to look up at her. "Um, sure...", he answered, looking for all the universe as though he wasn't particularly used to people asking to be in his company. "Yes, you certainly may.", he added at the fact that the buxom wench in Irish garb actually WAS talking to him. Happy smiled and then pulled out the chair to slide herself in upon it until she was comfortably seated, she placed her drink upon the table and then brought her hands together in front of her. "Why thank you kind sir", she answered, glancing over to her colleague behind the bar as he in turn served three newcomers that had just arrived. ~Hmm, not too busy just yet~ she thought returning her gaze thenceforth to the Starfleet officer as he in turn took a sip of his drink and then placed it onto the table. "I'm Aldlar Durgil. And you are...?", he asked. "Happy", she exclaimed. (Reply Durgil) It was a typical response, the name invariably drew it. The barkeep simply and then explained further. "No silly", she countered with a playful shove of the Ensigns arm, "dat IS my name.... although I'm generally happy also", she added, leaning her elbows onto the table now and then lifting her glass to her lips so as to take a sip. (Reply Durgil) Happy shrugged, her ample cleavage immediately becoming emphasized as she did so and not in the least bit being covered now by the low cut top that she wore! "Hey, what can I say now, my parents had a sense of humour..... my pet dog was actually called Katey", said Happy. "Can ya believe dat?", she added, her tone rising now as she spoke. (Reply Durgil) The barkeep nodded and then took another sip of the starburst in her hand before leaning back into her chair. "So what's all dis I been hearing in regards a five year jump in time den?", she asked, her Irish brogue much in evidence in her query. (Reply Durgil, Any) (Posted by Alan) (Starbase 24 - Leprechaun O'Malley's Bar - Ensign Durgil - 07:37) "I'm Aldlar Durgil. And you are...?" 'Happy!' It seemed more of a proclamation than an answer. Aldlar felt slightly confused. He wondered exactly how much things had changed in 5 years... "Uh, no, I meant to ask your name..." 'No silly, dat IS my name.... although I'm generally happy also.' She shoved on Aldlar's arm in a Jovial manner before leaning her elbows onto the table, occasionally taking a sip of her drink. "Oh, right. It's not your average name, not that there's anything wrong with it." She shrugged. Due to his parents teachings in morality, Aldlar attempted to keep his eyes off the rather exposed area, yet not appear like he was trying to avoid anything. (Reply, Happy IYW) 'Hey, what can I say now, my parents had a sense of humour..... my pet dog was actually called Katey. Can ya believe dat?' "Well... we used to call my brother Ugly,. but only for fun of course. There are all kinds of people out there..." Aldlar's tone was jovial. He still had the air of being slightly disorientated around him, although now it was hidden behind the brash air of the daring ensign. 'So what's all dis I been hearing in regards a five year jump in time den?' "Well... I'm not really sure. I was just on the ship at the time. Freshly posted. It's kinda odd to have things change by five years while you've only had a couple days pass. Y'know what I mean?" (Reply, Happy) Aldlar looked down into his mug, a thoughtful expression on his face. She was right. You really couldn't let yourself get all gloomy over the past. He looked up at her again. "Your right. Thanks. So, what's popular on this station?" (Reply, Happy, Any) (Posted by: John) (Starbase 24 - Leprechaun O'Malley's Bar - Barkeep, Happy O'Toole - 07:38) The answer to Happy's question seemed to have been mulling over in the Ensign's mind for a few moments or so before he imparted it, what finally arrived though was an answer... without really answering. "Well... I'm not really sure. I was just on the ship at the time. Freshly posted. It's kinda odd to have things change by five years while you've only had a couple days pass. Y'know what I mean?", he had responded. Happy nodded, five years was a long time indeed and she quickly found herself wondering exactly what it was that she had been doing five years beforehand. It was not an easy task. "Well let's not be too gloomy on the past", said Happy. "Your right. Thanks. So, what's popular on this station?", asked Durgil to which the Barkeep raised her hands pointing all around. "Leprechaun O'Malleys is da best bar on da station bar none", she said aloud, "but I kin see dat your mind is still a wandering over those lost years no?", she added. Durgil just nodded. "Ya know, we have a saying back home dat goes sumtin like dis - An té a bhíonn amuigh, fuarann a chuid", said Happy, quoting now in her own native tongue. (Reply Durgil) "It is an apt saying to be sure, it simply means - While a person his out, his food goes cold", said Happy with a smile and another quick sip of her starburst. (Reply Durgil) "Oim just saying dat maybe it's time now for you to reheat the broth.... if yer getting my meaning", said the Barkeep. (Reply Durgil) Happy sighed and then settled back into her chair listlessly as the Ensign tried to work out what the hell it was that she was rambling on about. (Reply Durgil, IYW) "Da universe, my good Mr Durgil is just fine... so long as you have da love of a good woman at your side, and some hot broth", she added with a wink, just as Morrissey raised a hand into the air at the bar as he suddenly became inundated by way of a Paqled freighter crew, ambling their way mornfully through the doors of the bar. Happy slapped her legs with her hands through her skirts and then began to stand. "Oh well, no rest for da wicked it would seem", she said casting a glance to the suddenly smiling Paqled's as they in turn glanced her way. "It's a pleasure to be meeting you Mr Durgil, for now anyway, Oi have some rather difficult customers to attend to and an assistant that is, shall we say allergic to certain species", she added with a wink. (Reply Durgil) "Another time then", she said as she quickly returned to the bar. "I'd like a status update if you please Lieutenant Commander, are we any closer to finding our mystery woman?", he asked. =/\=We have searched the Tular Varnei with no luck and we are about to enter the High Stakes=/\= came the reply, just as the Captain arrived at a nearby turbolift and then entered through the already opening doors to request the docking level access. (Reply Capps, IYW) "Given that the High stakes is a medium sized freighter, and assuming that our assailant is not on board the two Federation starships that are also docked here, then we should find her within five hours", said the Captain resorting as ever to logical deduction, irrespective of any uncontrolled variables that might arise! (Reply Capps) "Of course, I trust that you will keep me informed", said the Captain, "I am coming over to see Lieutenant Isengard and Ensign's Tolqu and Beckett as we speak", he added. (Reply Capps) "Understood, Captain out", said the Captain as he closed the coms and then stepped out through the opening doors to the turbolift to head to the nearby docking tube, illuminated as it now was by the cool light of Starbase 24. Six percent wasn’t a high number in this case, but the Captain was just simply stating reasoning and not criticizing the Security Chief. =/\=Given that the High stakes is a medium sized freighter, and assuming that our assailant is not on board the two Federation starships that are also docked here, then we should find her within five hours=/\=, said the Captain. “Aye sir,” Calvin said following along with the Captain. =/\=Of course, I trust that you will keep me informed", said the Captain, "I am coming over to see Lieutenant Isengard and Ensign's Tolqu and Beckett as we speak=/\=, he added. “I will keep you informed to the minute sir,” Calvin responded professionally. =/\=Understood, Captain out=/\=, said the Captain. I just hope I am right." Barac smiled ruefully, this was a possible make or break moment. Calvin had a training idea. “Why don’t you take the lead on this one. I’ll follow you.” Barac walked up to the open hatch and the Guard standing there. "Hello, I need to speak to your Captain, this is official Starfleet business. Please send for him." "Yea we heard all about you fellas searchin ships and all, but you ain't searchin us-ins, we're just passin through." The man's speech was coarse and heavily accented. Two more men moved up behind him to reinforce his statement. They all wore ship crew coveralls and were not the cleanest people around. Barac was about to say something when he saw the woman they were searching for stop and peer at him from inside, then she continued at a run. "She is in there!" barac started forward and the guard took a swing at him. Barac ducked under as he stepped past and elbowed the guy in the back pushing him toward Capps. (reply Capps) The two men standing between Barac and his quarry both brandished a weapon of sorts. One had a large wrench and the other stepped forward swinging a two foot steel bar. Barac caught the bar and pulled it toward him to gain control then snapped it back hard into the man's nose. He dropped boneless to the deck. when the other man pulled his wrench back to swing, Barac continued forward and used a knife hand to grab the guy at the base of the throat pushing in and down as brought his knee up into the man's chin. He flipped over backwards gasping and bleeding. Barac took off running as he called back, "This is the way she ran off." (reply Capps) Barac ran a few steps to a junction, he thought a moment, one probably went to the bridge, the other to crew quarters of passenger ones. He heard voices from the left which he thought led to the bridge and went that way at a run. (reply Capps) Entering the bridge was the woman we were looking for arguing with the Captain of the High Stakes. The Captain was angry and when saw Barac enter his bridge unannounced and uninvited he yelled his frustration. "WHO the devil are you and what are you doing on my ship?" The Woman grabbed the Captain and held him between herself and Barac. Barac drew his Phaser and aimed at her, "Please Ma'am just come along quietly." He said it politely but in a firm voice. (reply Capps, Any) (posted by Raymond) (High Stakes – Entry Hatch – TAC/SC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 08:02) "She is in there!” Barac exclaimed and took off at a sprint into the ship pushing the guard out of the way in the process. Calvin, reacting to the situation caught the guard from falling. At that point his thoughts speed up and time slowed down. Enough for him to run a few scenarios in his head on how this would go. First, the Security Chief thought how dangerous of a situation is created by a foot chase. This foot chase in particular was even more dangerous due to the fact that both officers didn’t know the ships layout at all. Second, Lt Cmdr Capps thought about the legal issues regarding running into a ship without direct permission to board. This was more of a CYA thought and maybe a little selfish, but something a seasoned officer might think about. However, the woman that is a fugitive and has been labeled so was clearly seen from the hatchway, could JAG explain well enough that the officers had a right to enter. In the end it was clear what Calvin would do. JAG really wasn’t a factor at this point, and being security brings hazardous situations along with job. He had a man already inside and Lt Cmdr Capps doesn’t just let his men go alone. Time, only one second went by for the thoughts to roll in and out of Calvin’s mind. Reality, he had stood still for an entire second as his man chased the rogue woman. He took the guard he had caught and let go, a small thud was heard behind Calvin as he ran as fast as he could to catch up with Ensign Storm and the woman. Calvin rounded the nearest corner and found two men down on the floor, as he ran passed them he heard Ensign Storm’s voice. "This is the way she ran off.” So Calvin continued to run. He caught up with Barac at a junction. At this point Calvin removed his phaser from its hidden holster. He tapped his combadge, “Capps to Spectre…” but before he could finish the request Ensign Storm continued with the Chase and Calvin followed closely behind. (Reply None, Any) (Posted by Calvin) (High Stakes - Bridge - Dorma Tulan - 08:05) The moment the Starfleet crewmen had entered onto the the High Stakes, Dorma had sensed their arrival. A savant's life was not an easy one, her last conquest 'Isengard' knew that full well and regardless of his impressive level of control, he had succumbed just the same. Empath's came, and Empath's went.... 'they' were both different and the pain that carried was oft-times unbearable. For a moment or two during their coupling the night before, Tulan had actually contemplated another path entirely, Isengard was a lot like her and 'their' kind were few and far between. She could turn against her puppeteers and cut the strings, perhaps a better life might beckon.... but probably not. It had ended just the same as every other time, someone had got hurt and now it was time to leave this place! Dorma knew they were coming of course and the Captain of the High Stakes was only concerned with the freight they were carrying, that was after all why he was there. The opening of the door to the bridge brought with it the expected, and the starfleet security officers had visually scanned the bridge immediately they had entered. Captain Gosque seemed perturbed at their unannounced arrival and responded accordingly of course. "WHO the devil are you and what are you doing on my ship?", he demanded, which was precisely the point where Tulan took a hold of him and positioned him between herself and the fleeters as they showed their obvious recognition of her. A phasor was duly drawn and raised to aim. "Please Ma'am, just come along quietly", said the nearest of the two. Tulan curled her lips into a smile and then exhaled through her nose. "Don't tell me, and you'll treat me to a slap up meal for two in the Red Robin for my troubles uh?", she jested. (Reply Barak, Capps, Any) Gosque had frozen of course, his mind seemed to be in some sort of a grip and his expression was one of total surprise. Tulan spoke again. "Why don't you both put your phasors down, then we can all go for a little ride yes?", she said. "Save anyone else getting hurt", she added with a wink. (Reply Barak, Capps, Any) "Suit yourselves", said Dorma with a smile, "your minds are so easily twisted you know, pliable, like putty", she added as she suddenly reached out towards them with her own mind. Barak's expression had changed now, his hand had begun to tremble and he seemed to be fighting to control it as it turned inexorably towards his colleague, who by now had stepped backwards in response at the sight of a phasor now being aimed at him. (Reply Barak, Capps, Any) (Posted by Alan) (High Stakes – Entry Hatch – TAC/SC Lt Cmdr Calvin Capps – 08:06) Calvin half walked onto the bridge and for the first time he clearly saw the rouge woman they were chasing. She had strategically positioned herself behind the body of the Captain. The Captain would have none of this on his ship and demanded to know, “WHO the devil are you and what are you doing on my ship?" "Please Ma'am just come along quietly." Barac said it politely but in a firm voice. In the totality of the situation the mind can play games. The run can leave a person exhausted and weary. The long deep breaths can begin to hurt from the panic, exhilaration, tiredness and uncertainty of the end outcome. But in this instant for Calvin all he could think about was ~That is not how I would have asked her to come~ And then he laughed in his thoughts. "Don't tell me, and you'll treat me to a slap up meal for two in the Red Robin for my troubles uh?", she jested. “You would be correct to assume that we would not give you freedom once we have you caught,” Calvin spoke. He did so the best he could with is deep breaths that were now slowing down. He attempted to keep his voice calm and clear. “But, going now would be the best thing for you. We do not want to hurt you.” Lt Cmdr Capps continued. "Why don't you both put your phasors down, then we can all go for a little ride yes?", Tulan said. "Save anyone else getting hurt", she added with a wink. Calvin spoke again, but this time he projected his voice into a firm and powerful sound. “This is not a request.” The seriousness of his face was a polar opposite from the wink he had just received. "Suit yourselves", said Dorma with a smile, "your minds are so easily twisted you know, pliable, like putty", she added as she suddenly reached out towards them with her own mind. Barak's expression had changed now, his hand had begun to tremble and he seemed to be fighting to control it as it turned inexorably towards his colleague, who by now had stepped backwards in response at the sight of a phasor now being aimed at him. The Security Chief’s worst scenario had played out. He now stood in front of his newest Ensign in his department. That Ensign was being controlled by what Calvin could guess was some sort of mind manipulator, and pointing a phaser at Lt Cmdr Capps. The woman attacked one Starfleet officer already and Calvin didn’t believe she would hesitate to do it again. There was only one thing that the Security Chief could do now. It was the first reaction that he decided to and his body began to move. There was nothing he could now, the act was already into motion. His right leg moved back behind his body and he pushed hard off of it to allow his body to explode forward toward Ensign Storm. Calvin became a human spear and his left shoulder caught Barac in the stomach. A phaser fire echoed on the bridge of the High Stakes, but the phaser quickly fell out of Barac’s hands as he was hit. Part of the plan was a gamble. The gamble was minutes ago Calvin had activated his combadge, but was unable to link with the Spectre due to rushing off after the woman now controlling his Assistant Chief. But he was hoping an open link had been established and someone on the Spectre had been listening this whole time. Calvin and Barac’s body was now floating in the air, but rushing toward the floor as gravity took its role on the ship. Lt Cmdr Capps put his last plan into action. “Emergency beam out for two,” he yelled. Lt Cmdr Capps felt his body land on Barac’s body as they hit the floor. Suddenly Calvin felt the transporter take a hold of his body and his body tightened with intense hope that the transporter would be fast enough to transport them before they could be harmed. She looked at her image in the reflection and smiled. She and Jo were going out tonight to one of Starbase 24’s posh eating establishments. Which meant black tie and dresses and as she had not gotten a dress in a long time she decided to treat herself to one. A smile spread across her face as she thought about two of her brothers that they were going to meet. Kenneth and Scott really were not the black tie sort. ~It will do them good now and again to try~ She had on a long dark blue evening dress with straps and a short V down her back. She turned one way and then the next to make sure that it was not obscene. She was really pleased because it fitted her perfectly; it showed off all her good bits while hiding the bad ones as a good dress should. She slipped it off and quickly changed back into her Starfleet jumpsuit. As she stepped out into the Clothier she looked over at Mun’Chas the owner. “I’ll take this one please.” “Of course madam, I’ll just rap it for you.”” Mun’Chas nodded as he took the dress and folded it carefully into a bag. “There you go Madam. Is there anything else that I can help you with today?” Jen shook her head. “No thank you.” “Well then good day Madam.” “And to you to.” Jen nodded and headed out the shop she had a few things to do before tonight. (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Security Station Gamma – Security officer, Jo Smith - 08:22) Jo was doing her shift at Security Station Gamma. She did not mind as she knew that she would be getting time off in the evening. ~Just a few reports. Nothing to exiting~ Most of the crew were on the Starbase but even though there still needed a presence, especially as the armory was on the same deck. =^=Comms to Lieutenant Smith=^= “Smith here. What can I do for you Ensign?” =^= I have a personal message being rerouted via the Starbase. Do you want me to patch it through? =^= “That would be great. Thank you Ensign.” Jo looked over at the crewwoman who was beside her. “Paula do you mind if I take this in the office?” Paula nodded. “Go ahead sir I’ll yell if I need anything.” Smiling her thanks she quickly went into the office and sat down in front of the computer monitor. She entered her authorization code and the screen blinked into life. =^=Blimy you took your time Sis. Needing a bit of P.T.?=^= The two grinning faces that were facing her had definatly aged since she had last seen them properly but the cheekiness had not gone. “I can still wipe your butt across the floor Kenneth and you can stop grinning like an imp to Scott I can wipe yours as well.” She leaned closer to the screen as she scrutinized Kenneth’s face. “Is that a grey hair I can see on your head Kenneth? Blimey you really must be getting old. She grinned as Kenneth scowled back. “Ow I hope you both got your best bib and tucker with you coz we are going somewhere posh tonight.” A look of horror passed over Scotts face. =^=Ow what! Why can’t we just go some where quiet? Do we really need to get all dressed up?=^= Jo smiled. “Jennifer has been talking it about ever since we knew you both were coming. She has gone to get a new dress especially for tonight.” Scott rolled his eyes. “Come on Scott. She’s been looking forward for this for the past five years.” =^=Ow very funny.=^= “So what are you both doing at the moment? I tried to get onto the fleet net but it said that you both are on some kind of carrier break?” Jo instantly tensed as she saw Scott give Kenneth a quick glance. =^=We are spending some time with Aunty Marion.=^= Jo paused for a moment before asked her next question. “That’s nice. Is she still mucking about with her little dingy?” Kenneth nodded. =^=Yeh she had a few now.=^= “Is the Undertones still sailable?” The SS Undertones was a merchantman and not a dingy. Aunty Marion was a member of Starfleet intelligence and was the reason why Jo had joined. She was also project lead of project Free Booster. Which was to build Q ships, Q ships were starships that looked like merchantmen but were warships from the keel up. They would patrol the shipping lanes in pirate hot spots, attack and catch pirates before that could do damage to shipping. =^=Yes, she is still on the go. We can bring you some photos if you like?=^= Jo smiled as messages were passed and received. “How long will it be until you get here?” =^= A few hours but we’ll be here before tea=^= “Don’t forget its black tie.” =^= How could we ever forget. See you both soon=^= Jo’s grin faded as the screen went blank and she leaned back into the chair. ~So they are working for Aunty Marion now. Well I bet that they have a few interesting stories to tell~ With that she got up and left the office to finish her shift. She really did hope that Jennifer had not gone over the top with her choice of dress. He saw the doctor who was looking after Isengard and approached him. “Doctor would it be possible to tell me how long Mr Isengard will be remaining under your care.” The doctor looked at him for a moment before talking. “Well as you know Lieutenant Isengard has been under a great deal of stress and trauma. We will need to run a few more tests and scans before we can release him to your sickbay but I recommend that he has some time off before returning to active duty.” Andrew nodded. “Yes Doctor.” “If you will excuse I have other patients to see.” “Of course Doctor.” Andrew watched as the Doctor headed off down the corridor. He tapped on his comm badge. “Commander Williams to Lieutenant Commander Capps. How are things going at your end?” (Reply Capps) (Reply Capps, any) (Posted by Robbie) (Starbase 24 - Medical Annex - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 08:24) Both men appeared tense when the CO had offered them to begin with some form of an explanation in regards their exploits, specifically he wanted to know who was to blame and why, and more importantly, what had taken place that had sent one man across the room into a partition to badly damage that partition! Indeed, if Klingons had been involved in this fiasco then it might have explained such an outcome, as it was though the last reports had been that the Klingons were not even docked at Starbase Twenty Four. How then had this occured? The surveilance footage from the Red Robin had shown the logistics of the actual event as it had occured, what was not shown though was how it had actually come to be. The Captain knew of course that Ornarans exhibited some unusual physical abilities regarding electricity, but whether that would explain the extent of things though was another matter entirely. Tolqu was the first to take up the offer of an explanation. "It was my fault sir", began the Ornaran, interjecting the Captain's thoughts, "I drank too much, this had nothing to do with Ensign beckett", he added. A cursory glance by the CO to his partner in crime however said otherwise. Beckett himself did not look as though he were entirely free of any guilt right now, indeed, something told the Captain that the opposite was more likely to be the case and his empathic senses had played no part in that assumption at all..... it was blatently obvious to anyone that Tolqu was now trying to protect his friend in his previous statement! Tolqu continued on :- "... I accidentally used my ability with more force than I expected resulting in my err", he said sheepishly, the Captain found himself waiting now for the punchline as the pause drew longer, although this seem far removed from a joke. "...Blew myself across the room sir", said Tolqu completing his halted explanation before quickly bowing his head in shame. The Captain nodded once and then glanced again to Beckett, whose expression now said it all. The man simply stood and held his hands clasped firmly behind him, then he began to relay the events as they really happened, thus more or less absolving his friend of any blame and taking it all firmly upon his own shoulders. So, it seemed that Beckett had a conscience after all, indeed he had done the right thing, he had stood up and taken the blame for his actions and that much in itself deserved some acknowledgement.... but it did not mean that he would go unpunished. "Thank you Ensign Beckett, your honesty is appreciated. However, that does not mean that you will not answer for your mistake", said the Captain. "I will expect a full report in regards this afray by this evening", he added. Then he turned to Tolqu, who had said nothing at all since his first explanation and had remained head bowed almost throughout Becketts admission of guilt. "Ensign Tolqu", said the Captain, "your ' unique' physiology, catalyzed unduly by alcohol on this occasion has proved to be a most undesirable combination for you to endure, and indeed any that might be in your presence at the time.... I trust that you have learned from this experience?", he added quirking his head slightly as he spoke. (Reply Tolqu) The Captain took a deep breath and then pondered on the outcome of this somewhat unsavoury fiasco. Clearly Tolqu was the least guilty of the two, but even so he had exhibited a certain degree of involvement in what had happened, even if it HAD ended up 'out of his control'.... Beckett on the other hand had shown himself to be a wildcard that did not seem phased at the possible outcomes of his actions, hardly the kind of behaviour expected of a Starfleet officer. In his favour though, the man had shown the quality of truthfulness. The Captain began again... "Ensign Tolqu, it is accepted that your actions occured whilst you were not in full control of your senses or abilities, however you can not say that you did not do all in your power to prevent the final outcome", said the Captain. "Therefore, your record will show a diciplinary mark against you in regards this event", he added before turning thence towards Ensign Beckett. "Ensign Beckett, you have shown that left to your own devices, you are capable of leading astray those that are, shall we say, easier swayed to your particular brand of entertainment", said the Captain, "your Starfleet record will thus show a diciplinary mark against you pending further investigation of the facts that may, or may not escalate the punishment assigned you now" (Reply Any IYW) The Captain continued. "In the interim, you are both confined to the ship for a duration of five days, wherapon your situation will be duly reassessed..... you are both dismissed", said the Captain, his gaze not once shifting from the two men before him. He did not know his Captain well and assumed he had every right to kick them off the ship, if he was lucky he would be scrubbing the plasma conduits for a year. He almost felt like handing his resignation in there and then, but stood firm and waited for his fate to be told. "Thank you Ensign Beckett, your honesty is appreciated. However, that does not mean that you will not answer for your mistake", The Captain replied looking none to happy, his dour expression made Teverine blanch even more as he momentarily looked up. "I will expect a full report in regards this affray by this evening", T’vhor continued as he turning his attention to Teverine his gaze was piercing and strong, Teverine raised his head up as his Captain prepared for all he knew was about to bestow his ultimate nightmare and dismiss him from his post. Teverine wanted the news to be at least taken like a proper Ornaran so he stiffened his back and pose and waited for his future to be told. "Ensign Tolqu your ' unique' physiology, catalyzed unduly by alcohol on this occasion has proved to be a most undesirable combination for you to endure, and indeed any that might be in your presence at the time.... I trust that you have learned from this experience?" “Yes sir. I guarantee nothing like this will ever happen again Sir.” Teverine was sincere in his words and he intended to never get himself into situations as bad as this again in his life. He may blame Quinn for partial amounts of the night but at heart he knew he should have used more common sense than he had shown. He was better than that and knew he would never ever let himself be put into such a humiliating experience again. He watched as the Captain took a deep breath, he knew how that felt. ~What the hell is he going to do… this doesn’t look good~ He watched and waited as he could see his Captain thinking over their fate and the best way to deal with him and Beckett. This was the worse possible way to meet your Captain and he thought the Captain must probably none to pleased to see his new ensigns in this predicament either. "Ensign Tolqu, it is accepted that your actions occurred whilst you were not in full control of your senses or abilities, however you can not say that you did not do all in your power to prevent the final outcome" ~He’s right I knew what I was walking into even if I don’t admit it out loud~ "Therefore, your record will show a disciplinary mark against you in regards this event" Teverine almost gaped at this news, he could not belief he was only going to receive a disciplinary mark, that was bad and enough to scare the wits out of him, but still he was to remain a science officer and have a chance to prove his worth to his Captain and more importantly to himself. "Ensign Beckett, you have shown that left to your own devices, you are capable of leading astray those that are, shall we say, easier swayed to your particular brand of entertainment your Starfleet record will thus show a disciplinary mark against you pending further investigation of the facts that may, or may not escalate the punishment assigned you now" Beckett remained unusually silent a sure sign he took this very seriously indeed, it was not often Teverine saw Beckett with nothing to say. Glancing over at his friend he looked at him standing before his captain in attire that more suited a male stripper than a operations officer but the look on Quinn face said it all, the reference to his care free attitude being detrimental to his career was obvious in the undertones of T’vhor’s words and had struck there mark. His expression was a sure indication that he was making the same kind of mental promises that Teverine had just made himself. "In the interim, you are both confined to the ship for duration of five days, whereupon your situation will be duly reassessed..... You are both dismissed" “Aye Aye Sir” Both men replied in unison as they turned from the Captain secretly relieved they did not have to endure his gaze any longer. As both men walked out Teverine said nothing to the others out in the corridor, he and Beckett walked past them all with their eyes firmly planted to the floor, walking with as much haste as he could muster without actually running. With speed both Teverine and Beckett moved along the innards’ of the starbase without speaking to each other, both lost in there own private nightmares as they made for Docking Bay where the Spectre was docked to board and start serving their five day ‘house arrest’ on the ship. Obviously Adams must have known that they were undergoing refit, but then five years of advanced and reworked technology was quite a lot to get to know in only the short duration thata they would be docked. A smile grew on Adams's face. "Good. Familiar ground." T'Vhor made an emotionless nod as only a Vulcan could do. "All that is really left for me to do Lieutenant is to formally welcome you back on board." The captain extended his hand and Adams rose to shake his hand. "Thank you, sir. I'm glad to be back. I won't let you down." Adams remained standing in front of the desk while Captain T'Vhor continued, "I am sure that you know the ship well enough already, there is no need for us to resort to the usual, new arrival protocol and with the ship currently offline with a crew on shore leave.... it would seem that she is your oyster so to speak. Please, feel free to familiarize or indeed assist with our upgrades as you wish." "I will, Sir," replied Adams. "I have no real desire for shore leave. I've been out of action for a couple of months now and I'm ready to go back to work." "One other thing", said the captain. "You may want to also familiarize yourself with Ensign Durgil, you will no doubt be working with one another shortly. He is currently on Starbase 24, I'm sure that you will find him easily enough." "Will, do. Looking forward to meeting the ensign." "You are dismissed," T'Vhor stated. Adams nodded and walked out the door and onto the bridge. (reply none) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - FO's Office - ACMO, Ensign (JG) Mitchell Huval, DM - 10:10) “No problem. I have a couple of things in there which I can take out and then it’s yours.” He paused for a moment. “Good to have you on board Dr Huval. If you need anything just call.” Mitch gave a half hearted salute, “Will do.” He turned and headed for the door, bound for his quarters and then on to Sickbay. ~Let’s get started~ (Reply none, any) (Posted by Bobby Pirie) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - Lieutenant JG Christopher Adams - 10:29) Not wanting to waste any time, Lieutenant Christopher Adams decided to throw his duffel bag into his quarters and go ahead and head down to engineering. He was anxious to get back to work. He was practically on R and R for the past few months, even though some of that time was physical rehabilitation. Right now it was time to get the old hyperspanner back in hand and start crawling through some Jefferies tubes. The doors slid open to Main Engineering and Adams walked through. The warp core was dark and the dilithium crystal converter assembly was spread out upon the floor. Various other panels were slid open and technicians from Starbase 24 were milling about working on various systems. Standing in the middle of the room was a very tall Andorian. He was leaning over the main engineering console in the middle of the room, hands planted firmly on the surface. He looked forward, eyes watching the engineering technicians, but he didn't look happy. Adams approached the chief engineer from the side. "Lieutenant Adams reporting to duty." (reply H'chir) "Very good, sir," replied Adams. "Rested and ready to return to duty." (reply H'chir) "If you don't mind, I would like to assist in the upgrades." (reply H'chir) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - Lieutenant H'Chir - 10:30) H'Chir rubbed at his chin, his brow furrowed as he contemplated the situation unfolding around him. The one thing that he hated more than anything was others meddling with his engines and the constant to'ing and fro'ing of the starbase personnel only served to antagonize the Andorian further. They were in his domain now and as such, they should damn well respect the difference between a monkey working from a blueprint and a seasoned engineer on a ship of the line that could tell a phase variance in an injector, purely by the sound of the engine running! Starbase work crews! They should stick to fixing kettles and toasters, it was about all they were proficient at... as far as the CEO of the USS Spectre was concerned anyway. It was at about that time though that his antennae twitched to the sound of approaching footfalls, the Lieutenant turned about abruptly, expecting someone to be waving a coil spanner in his face and asking where the core was situated, what he actually got was the familiar face of one of the Spectre's own engineers, albeit one having only just returned from sick leave to announce his return. "Lieutenant Adams reporting to duty", said the Lieutenant boldly, H'Chir regarded him briefly before responding, Adams looked none the worst for wear following his encounter with the river, it had damn near killed him but it seemed that he was back on form, AND it was good to see an actual engineer here instead of the starbase spannermen all around him! "Adams!", exclaimed H'Chir, "I hadn't got the word you were rejoining us here, I trust though that you are well and come bearing a.... ", said the Andorian, lowering his head now and speaking quietly to finish the sentence, "more proficient wrench than these monkeys", he added, gesturing with his head now towards yet another of the SB24 engineers as he passed them by. "Very good, sir," replied Adams. "Rested and ready to return to duty." H'Chir nodded appreciatedly and then turned back to the console before him, just to see what they were doing to his engines. "So, where would you like to start Mr Adams?", he asked of the newly returned engineer. "If you don't mind, I would like to assist in the upgrades.", answered Adams. "Ah, music to my antennae for sure", said a somewhat pleased H'Chir, "there's a lot to do, the cloak is out of course, we have a new one ready to go in.... and it's uprated to, seems that five years has taken us to new levels of phase inversion. Our core also is being upgraded, along with almost our entire SIF inertial damper system", he added, planting both hands now upon the red railing just forwards of the console. (Reply Adams) "That's just for starters Mr Adams, the ship is receiving the Tactical Holographic Imaging System that was once reserved for the big guns of the fleet, it should be a fun new toy to play with.... providing it doesn't get broken by someone dropping a hypospanner into it along the way of course", said H'Chir wryly. (Reply Adams) H'Chir turned away from the console once again and then headed for the schematic on the table set immediately centre of main engineering. "Everything is up in the air right now, if I had my way I'd throw these goons out and have my own teams on it from start to finish", said H'Chir, "unfortunately, that's not an option and we have to work with them" (Reply Adams) H'Chir shrugged. "Your choice entirely, go where you feel you will be most useful.... personally, I'm heading over to SB24 for an hour or so, I could do with a break", said H'Chir. (Reply Adams) (Posted by Alan) (USS Spectre - Main Engineering - Lieutenant JG Christopher Adams - 10:31) Lieutenant Christopher Adams and Chief Engineer H'Chir stood in the middle of engineering, currently torn apart by the engineering technicians of Starbase 24. "I hadn't got the word you were rejoining us here," stated H'Chir. "I trust though that you are well and come bearing a...more proficient wrench than these monkeys." ~Hmmm,~ thought Adams. ~I wonder what the monkeys look like on Andoria. Probably ferocious and blue with big fangs.~ "Very good, sir," stated Adams breaking his thoughts. "Rested and ready to return to duty." H'Chir nodded. "So, where would you like to start, Mr. Adams?" "If you don't mind, I would like to assist in the upgrades.", answered Adams. "Ah, music to my antennae for sure. There's a lot to do, the cloak is out of course, we have a new one ready to go in.... and it's uprated to, seems that five years has taken us to new levels of phase inversion. Our core also is being upgraded, along with almost our entire SIF inertial damper system." "Wow," responded Adams with a grin. "I didn't even think about the benefits of leaping five years into the future. There's a whole new set of gadgets to learn." "That's just for starters Mr Adams," stated the chief engineer. "The ship is receiving the Tactical Holographic Imaging System that was once reserved for the big guns of the fleet, it should be a fun new toy to play with.... providing it doesn't get broken by someone dropping a hypospanner into it along the way of course." "Yes. We had that system on the Paladin during The War. It came in very handy." H'Chir walked over to the engineering table in the center of the room. "Everything is up in the air right now, if I had my way I'd throw these goons out and have my own teams on it from start to finish. Unfortunately, that's not an option and we have to work with them." "I agree sir," replied Adams softly. "I trust an engineer with flight experience over these Starbase jockeys any day. Where do you want me to start?" H'Chir shrugged indifferently. "Your choice entirely, go where you feel you will be most useful.... personally, I'm heading over to SB24 for an hour or so, I could do with a break." "Sounds good, sir. Don't worry. I'll manage the store while you're gone. Or, I guess the zoo," replied Adams with a grin. She paused as she saw that the lights were on and a man was standing in the middle of the floor. “Um excuse me Sir can I help you?” The man turned around and looked at her. “Hallo Chief. I am Ensign Scott Smith, I am here from the Starbase engineering department. I am here to upgrade your EMH system.” Douwsy paused for a moment. “Sir you do not happen to be related to Lieutenants Jo and Jennifer Smith?” Smith nodded. “Yes Chief. They are my sisters. I only got in a short while ago and got roped into this. As I had free time until this evening and the star base’s engineering department is totally hammered at the moment with the arrival of the 25th fleet. I really could not refuse.” Douwsy nodded and gave a slight smile. “We aim to please Sir.” She moved next to Smith who smiled as well. “So what is new about this EMH sir?” Smith grinned. “This is the newest and up to date EMH that Starfleet medial had developed. It has access to the latest medical database.” “What is it this time?” Smith smiled. “This is the smart bit. There is no default visual matrix. There is only male or female. The computer will assess which race is the most acceptable at the time of activation. Or the chief medical officer can enter an image that he or she preferred.” She frowned for a moment as she took in what he had said. “Change the visual matrix?” “Yes it is medicals new idea about being cared for by people that they think would be best for the patient.” “I’m sure that it could be used inappropriately such as a dabo girl or someone they hate.” Smith nodded. “Yes it has been but all permanent visual changes have to be cleared by the Captain.” Douwsy nodded. “How long will it take to be up and running Sir?” Smith tapped his PADD. “Well I need to up load the appropriate installation software so that it will take a couple of hours and then I’ll be back tomorrow to get sorted with the main hardware and software. I will have to take sickbays primary holographic systems off line and install new kit. I’ll have a better idea tomorrow about how long after that it will take.” Douwsy nodded. “If there is anything I can do sir just call?” “Thanks Chief.” With that Douwsy headed over to the nurse station. She had a few things to do before lunch.. (Reply any) (Posted by Robbie) (Starbase 24 - Leprechaun O'Malley's Bar - Lt JG Christopher Adams - 11:24) After an hour of pouring over the refit schedule that the engineering technicians from Starbase 24 had put together, Lieutenant Christopher Adams thought it would be a good idea to take a break before diving into one of the systems to help out. ~Captain T'Vhor had said I would be able to find him easy enough,~ thought Adams. ~Well, this hasn't been easy.~ The doors to the bar slid open and Adams glanced around the place. This was the fifth establishment along the starbase's recreation section that he had decided to look for Ensign Durgil. There were several customers milling about and seated at wooden tables. A young woman dressed as an Earth Irish barmaid with ample amounts of cleavage waited on tables. Glancing over at the bar, he thought he saw who he was looking for, a young ensign with short brown hair and a couple of empty glasses sitting on the bar next to him. Adams glanced at the PADD he was caring to check to see if the personnel photo he had pulled up matched the person sitting at the bar. It did. This must his fellow engineer. "Is this seat taken?" asked Adams going ahead and sitting down next to the ensign. (reply Durgil) Adams extended a hand. "Lieutenant Adams. I hear we are going to be working together." (reply Durgil) "Just arrived back on board. I was laid up during the last mission and spent the past few months back on Starbase Geneva in rehab." (reply Durgil) A waiter behind the bar interrupted the ensign. "Whatta have?" he asked Adams. "I'll take an Earth bock beer. What ever you have on tap." The waiter returned with a dark beer with white foam in a tall schooner glass. "Continue," urged Adams taking a sip of his drink. (reply Durgil) (posted by Jason French) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - ACMO, Ensign Mitchell Huval, DM - 13:00) Mitchell looked around sickbay. Most of the upgrades had already been completed by starbase engineering teams. He watched as a nurse moved supplies from a transport container to the dispensary cabinets. Mitch smiled, this was a good start, a fresh start... this was where he would begin to make a difference once again. He moved through Sickbay over to the patient biobeds. He placed one hand on the nearest bed and sighed. ~This is what it is all about~ He turned on his heals and pressed his commbadge. "Counsellor Samhan" (Reply Samhan) "This is Doctor Huval, the new assistant Chief Medical Officer, I'd like to meet with you to introduce myself and get us started on some overdue medical and psych evals." (Reply Samhan) Mitch pulled his light blue medical PADD from his lab coat pocket. Tapping the screen, he scrolled through a list of officers and crewmembers that were now once again active members of Starfleet. This was since, for all practical purposes, them disappearing five years previously. "Well, from what I understand, to the crew aboard ship, it might have been only a few weeks, but for Starfleet Medical's databanks, its been five years. I don't really feel that all this back logged or 'missing' medical data will cause much of a fuss with Starfleet Medical, but I do think it would be a good idea to just get some members of the crew examined, if for nothing else just to update their records." (Reply Samhan) "Can you meet me in Sickbay so we can discuss this further?" (Reply Samhan, any) (Posted by Bobby Pirie) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - Nurse Douwsy - 13:03) Douwsy waited for the transport container to materialise in front of her. She opened the container and began to fill the cabinets with the supplies. Most of which were drugs and supplies that they could not replicate well. She had reduced the sickbay staff to a skeleton shift and had given others leave but was able to get them back if the need arose. She heard the sickbay doors open and saw a human male in his early thirties wearing a medical uniform. She heard him speak to Counsellor Samhan over the comms and introduce himself as Doctor Huval. ~So this is the new Baby CMO~ She waited for Huval and Samhan to finish speaking before she walked over to him. “Hallo Doctor Huval. I just arrived, tell me how has the transition to the new Sickbay equipment been going?” (Reply Douwsy) “Well, it is like I was telling Commander Williams earlier, we haven’t cured the common cold in five years but we have made some breakthroughs. I’m sure we can get the medical staff up to speed before we leave spacedock.” (Reply Douwsy) “I see,” Mitch tapped his medical PADD, “So we are also receiving the updated version of the EMH…” (Reply Douwsy, iyw) Mitch tapped his PADD a few more times revealing the status of the program, “This says it should already be installed, we just need to activate it. Well then, Computer, begin program: Emergency Medical Hologram.” The computer chirped a few times. The EMH materialized before the doctor and nurse, then spoke, “Welcome to program Emergency Medical Hologram version seven point two, to activate the program for medical use please say ‘activate.’ Otherwise the program will remain in open source programming and installation mode.” Mitch raised an eyebrow, “Activate.” The holographic avatar glitched and shimmed with a rainbow of colors then reformed. “Please state the nature of the medical emergency.” Mitch tapped his PADD a few times to ensure the program was stable, he spoke without looking up at the holo-avatar, “No, nothing right now,” “Then why was I activated?” Mitch pulled out his Medical Tricorder and set it to run a diagnostic on the program, “To ensure you were installed correctly. Alright, looks like you’re operating within norms, Computer, deactivate the Emergency Medical Hologram.” A quick chirp from the computer and the avatar whirled away with a baffled look on its face. Mitch looked back at Nurse Douwsy, “I can’t stand those things, but I guess if we’re all off ship or incapacitated it comes in handy…” (Reply Douwsy) “Well, I think it would be a good idea to check through all of our systems to make sure all the new installations are completed, I don’t really trust Starbase engineers mucking around in my Sickbay. The nurse smiled as she spoke. Clearly this was a team of professionals with positive attitudes. ~Good, it’ll be like my fellowship back in New Orleans~ "Thank you nurse, that’s all, ummm... and make sure to bring any problems to my attention. I’m going to get one of our engineers to look at those glitches in the EMH’s projection system. It should be just the switch from programming mode to medical mode but let us err on the side of caution, never know when we might need this blasted thing." The nurse turned away and Mitch looked back down at his PADD. He tapped through menus on the small device until, on the Spectre's crew roster, he found Lieutenant Adams. ~Hmmmm... this might be our man.~ Mitch slapped his commbadge, "Engineer Adams," (Reply Adams) "Yes, this is Doctor Huval; we might be having some issues with the Emergency Medical Hologram, if Lieutenant H’chir can spare you, could you come up to Sickbay to run a diagnostic and check the emitters in here?" "I will be in there in a few minutes. Adams out." With another tap of his badge, he closed the transmission. A few more taps on his panel and the computer system started formatting the computer core. He picked up an engineering tool case and walked out of engineering. Just as down in engineering, the starbase technicians were all about working on upgrades to the Spectre. (reply Huval) "So, what appears to be the problem?" (reply Huval) "Hmm," said Adams. "Okay. Let's take a look. Computer. Activate the EMH." A silhouette of a human bated in rainbows appeared. Frowning, he closed his eyes and exhaled a long smooth breath. The rest of the Sickbay staff had gone to their quarters for the evening. Mitch did not want to go to his quarters; he did not want to deal with unpacking, at least not right now. ~Why am I running?~ He had thought that staying and finishing SFA and then coming here would be enough to take his mind off her, but alas, it only burned him more. ~Why would she do this to me, and to Mikey~ He felt a moment of complete remorse then a surge of action took hold of him. He grabbed in his lab coat pocket and took out a bright golden chrono set to New France Colony time, and quickly looked at it. ~Let’s see, nine twenty, she’ll be at work.~ He sat up in the chair and straightened his coat, pulling down on his black, grey and teal tunic. He ran his fingers through his hair and then felt the short stubble on his face. Sighing, he tapped the comm, opening a channel to the Starbase’s long distance communications desk. A bright, cheerful officer greeted him on the screen embedded in the wall of his office. "Good evening Doctor Huval, what can I do for you?" Mitch responded, "Yes, could you put me through to New France Colony, Central City, Government Annex 42B, Office 1423, Anastasia Huval, please?" The comm officer looked down, tapping her console and then back at Mitch, "Patching you through to New France’s civilian communications network sir, one moment, please." "Thank you," the words barely left Mitch’s lips before the screen went black and then turned bright blue. A logo popped up on the center of the screen and an automated announcement started to play. "Thank you for choosing A,T, and T for all your off world communication needs... Doctor Huval... your call is being processed." After a few moments of waiting for the line to open up, the New France Government logo popped up on the screen. It stayed there while an indicator blinked in the corner. Mitch was beginning to think she was not there. When he was just about to give up, she answered. "Hello, this is Ana..." Mitch interrupted her, "Hi, Annie." He stared at her, she stared back. She calmed her composure. Bighting her bottom lip, she spoke to him in a cool tone, "So I see you got the posting. Good, good… get it all out of your system..." there was a hint of distain in her voice. "Annie this is where I want to be, this is my dream, helping people..." "No," she put her index finger up and gave a controlling glare across the comm screen, "Starfleet has enough doctors, your dream should be being my husband, raising our little boy." "I could have brought him with me you know that. You could have come as well." Mitch was trying to sound empathetic but Annie would have none of it. "No," she shook her head, "No, mucking around the Galaxy in some starship in some god forsaken underbelly of the cosmos is no place to raise a child..." "But why," he almost laughed at her statement but only smiled in confusion at the situation, "Why New France... why the colonies? You know those places make me sick." Mitch was getting upset now, "Every city looking exactly the same, row after row after row of identical housing... nothing’s real... it’s safe, it’s soft corners and astro turf, it’s cheap and disposable... its so suburban... but this," Mitch held up his arms to the bulkheads around him, "this is real! This is life!" Excitement filling his voice. "No," Pointing her finger down at the desk in front of her, "this is life... no matter how you see it, this is life. You can’t live life if you run away Mitch!" There was a note of frantic appeal in her voice. "You can’t have life without truly living Annie. That’s what I want, I know its selfish, I know you think it’s juvenile, but this is what I am bred to do..." "You were the son of a mother that slaved away hoping like hell that her son could climb out of Earth Gov food stamps to make something of himself… to live a good life..." "That's what I’m doing!" "Mitch you could die out there..." her voice almost cracked with concern as the words left her mouth. There was a silence. Annie spoke up again, an angry yet nagging tone filled her voice but the concern remained, "You remember Julie Loatmen, what she went through... her grandparents... dead... dead because of Starfleet, dead because of throwing caution into the wind, dead because of..." Mitch cut her off again, "Dead because of the Borg... if her family hadn’t have stood their ground at Wolf three... five... nine... we would all be dead..." Annie glared at Mitch, "And a little girl is now without a family," Annie slowed her speech to pronoun every word with conviction, "that place was a massacre... we were both barely toddlers when it happened. We didn’t really learn the truth about that day until adulthood. That place was a field of death, not gallant heroes, just pigs to the slaughter. The Enterprise was the only ship to make it out of that mess..." "Things are different now," Mitch blasted, striking a much more commanding tone of voice, "and what would you have me do? I’m a Starfleet Officer..." "Oh I begged you not to sign up... begged..." tears beginning to well up in her eyes, her face bright red with emotion. "It is my place... this is my chance to make a difference and I won’t let you hold me back..." "Hold you back..." she was laughing through tears, laughing at Mitch’s absurd statement, "A four hundred pound Klingon couldn’t have kept you on Earth after you graduated. You should have taken that job daddy offered you back on Bajor... we could have had a life there..." "I am not your father!" Mitch was yelling now, Annie, tears and all, held her emotional ground, "And I never will be! Why can’t you get that into your thick scull?" Mitch, standing now, breathing heavily. "Did you have to take him with you? Mikey… a boy should know his father Annie!" "Not a father like you..." They both stopped, what had been said, was said... no going back from it now. They regained their composure. Annie once again was the first to speak, trying to sound composed, "Mikey’s fine," she paused to breath, still coming down from the violent shouting, "He’s starting a new school next month. I’ll tell him you called." Mitch’s voice almost cracking under the strain of attempting to not burst into tears, "would you please reconsider, we could have a life..." There was a long pause. "I’m so sorry, good bye Mitch..." Annie ended the transmission almost hesitant of what she was saying... as if she truly believed that this could be a last goodbye. Mitch hung his head on the edge of the desk and sobbed. The monitor went black. His empty heart felt even larger than his empty office… larger than the Spectre herself. ~She still pushes my buttons, always an argument... always a fight~ He looked up around the Sickbay through the large windows that peered into his office. As he entered he smelt the faint aroma of Chai tea from a cup sitting on a table with an open box sitting beside it. ~Hmm that smells good~ He looked over at Tolqu. “I hope that I am not disturbing you?” (Reply Tolqu) (Reply Tolqu, any) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Tolqu’s Quarters – ACSO Ensign Teverine Tolqu – 22:13) Teverine stiffened slightly as he caught sight of his FO standing at his quarter’s door. He looked a few years younger than himself and unlike Teverine he had a warm smile on his face as he looked him in the eye and said. “May I come in Ensign Tolqu?” ~What sad looking eyes~ He thought as he continued to stare at his commander seeing him look briefly at his box and picture which lay on its side on the table. Instead of tensing as usual Teverine no longer cared what people thought of him, after the fiasco of the nightclub Teverine no longer had anything to lose by being closed of and everything to gain by being a different person than he was, he needed to be more like the old self he was before he met Perra and his life was effectively put on hold. He had to break the mould of his past someway and now knew he had his chance here on this ship and had already put it in jeopardy once in his short span on the ship. He intended to start anew and with a fresh approach he knew he would eventually overcome his past near and long. Too long had he lived in the past. “Please do Sir.” Offering a seat at the table where he was sitting, still standing to see what his commander would do, he noticed him sniffing the air, obviously he had smelled his tea which tended to permeate the room whenever he drank it. “I hope that I am not disturbing you?” He said in a friendly manner. Teverine loosened up slightly and attempted a smile. ~What the hell let’s just try and be honest~ “Not at all Sir please take a seat may I offer you a cup of Ornaran Tea I had it added to the ship’s replicator, I think you’d like it Sir.” (Reply Williams) Teverine walked over to the replicator ordering an Ornaran Tea with a tea spoon of honey; turning back he offered the steaming glass of liquid to Williams, taking a seat opposite him. Noticing Williams was looking at the picture of his wife he shoved the picture towards his FO so he might have a better look. “My w ife Sir.” (Reply Williams) Teverine knew that Williams did not know about his past and details of that nature was only for the eyes of councillors, on his records he was registered as married but no further information was noted on any official record of his past. But he also knew that he culd no longer hide anything from his collegues he felt he needed to be more open. That would be nice.” Andrew took the cup and the seat he was offered. As he sat down he noticed a picture of a woman on the table in front of him. Tolqu pushed the picture towards him “My wife Sir.” Andrew paused slightly as he heard the emotion in Tolqu’s voice. “If you don’t want to talk about it Teverine it is not a problem.” He said softly knowing that this was personal territory and did not want to intrude. (Reply Tolqu) (Reply Tolqu) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre – Tolqu’s Quarters – ACSO, Ensign Teverine Tolqu – 22:21) Teverine could see some concern in Williams’s face but sipped on his tea as he watched his FO. “If you don’t want to talk about it Teverine it is not a problem.” Teverine smiled nervously in previous months and years he may have closed off but after the past few days he knew he had everything to lose and nothing more to gain from being a silent wall of feigned toughness that his own ideals had made from guilt over his past actions. “It’s ok Sir.” Teverine sipped his tea again as he sat back in his chair feeling himself relax for the first time I a long while as he took a deep breath and let go of his emotions he had always tried to keep in check. “I left her Sir, back on my home world I left her near death laying on a hospital bed, so I could follow my dream and join Starfleet.” (Reply Williams) Teverine could see the shock on his FO’s face as he absorbed the information that Teverine had just said, to his surprise Williams did not show the disgust he had expected. So taking another small sip of his tea he plundered on, “As I am sure you are aware Sir, on my home world of Ornaran we had a rather large issue with Felicum thanks to our ignorance and the Brekkans greed. Though it was many years ago some of our race persist on taking that scourge that almost destroyed our culture and world. Unfortunately one of them was my wife Perra. We met young and I put aside my dreams of Starfleet to look after my new wife." Teverine lean't forward and took the photo of his wife from Williams, looking at it briefly he kept hold of it as he continued. "But she was already an addict unbeknown to me; we lived together for several long years which were a constant cycle of trips to the hospital and her endless promises of becoming clean. And the repeating failure of her words and the constant heartache of seeing her flush her life away. Eventually I realised I never loved her but the image of what she wanted the outside world to see, she was rotten at the core and I started to regret not following my dream. That was when on the final occasion I lost my loyalty for her and walked out. ” (Reply Williams) Teverine was surprised at his own manner as he explained this, he felt like a great weight was being lifted from his soul, he felt like souring on the currents inside, he almost felt giddy with the elation of finally telling someone the truth, Quinn Beckett never counted as his personality and reaction was more about himself than actually listening to one of his friends, Quinn was more interested in women and his next conquest, talking to him was as effective as discussing the mechanics of quantum warp drives with a Borian Slugworm. He of course was forced to talk about his past with the starfleet counsillors but that was different and he never really took any notice of what they said, his only interest at that time was to get into starfleet and complete his training, so he had glossed over some of the more serious factors as to why he wanted to join the academy and the reasons why he had ended up where he had. He was also secretly terrified at what he had just done. What if Williams was repulsed by him? What if Williams thought he was a horrible person for what he had done and told him so in none to certain terms exactly what he thought of him. Perhaps he would tell everyone on board of his horrific actions and he would be spurned by everyone a mocking joke of his drunken behaviour on the Starbase and his repulsive behaviour of the past, a leper and outcast alone on a ship of many. ~You made the right choice be honest and be true to yourself Teverine whatever the outcome~ He looked at his First Officer it was obvious Williams was absorbing this information and he sat back waiting to see his reaction. “That must have been a difficult decision. Something like that is never easy especially you have been together for such a long time but some times you have to do what is right for you.” Relief swept through Teverine as he visibly relaxed into his chair and genuinely smiled at Williams, this was better than he had expected. “Thank you Sir.” He looked up into Williams face and saw nothing but concern, either he hid his emotions well or he truly cared about his Ensign. Whatever the reason Teverine knew he was in the right place and had made the right decision to join Starfleet. Everything he had worked for was worth it and now in his soul he accepted that, though he knew he would carry the guilt of his actions for the rest of his life, instead of a burden though he would use what had happened as a lesson. “ I. err... have never spoken about it before with anyone, partly fear and I think partly self loathing Sir.” (Reply Williams) (Posted by Peter Richards) (USS Spectre – Tolqu’s Quarters – FO, Williams – 22:30) “ I. err... have never spoken about it before with anyone, partly fear and I think partly self loathing Sir.” Andrew nodded. ~Been there done that~ “I can understand that but it is good to talk about the way you feel about it. What was historically an away mission of two, this time was three as Adams inserted himself into the situation joining Lieutenant Adams and Ensign Talbot as they tried to repair the micro-fractures which had appeared on the hull of the USS Spectre during their confrontation with the Borg. Adams was having trouble remembering the details. It was just a jumbled mess in his mind and he needed to know. Did he cause the accident? The Shuttlecraft Crusader hovered at a safe distance with a tether line extending from it's rear hatch and attached to the two engineers, who were working in three different locations on the hull. Adams stood on the hull in his uniform observing the events in passive mode. Suddenly there was a slight force which pushed the officers and made them grasp for the tethers. The Borg ship could be seen several thousand kilometers away. It was very disconcerting working under the shadow of the ship. Adams watched as the holographic version of himself looked at Talbot. =^=Are you reading anything...unusual Lieutenant Commander?=^= asked the holographic version Adams to Commander Banowsky up in the Crusader. =^=We aren't detecting anything unusual Lieutenant,=^= responded Banowsky. =^=But I will keep you posted. Remember I have a transporter lock on you. If anything goes wrong, I'll get you out of there.=^= =^=I felt a...I felt a breeze=^=, he responded. =^=Call me crazy but, something pushed me against the tension of my tether.=^= =^=I suggest we get these plates repaired double quick sir, then get back to the shuttle at the earliest opportunity,=^= stated Talbot. =^=I'm not gonna argue with you there buddy=^=, said holographic Adams. =^=Should take the both of us about twenty minutes or so if we work double quick.=^= Talbot nodded and Adams gave the shuttlecraft a thumbs-up and the two officers started working on the hull again. The real Adams stood over Talbot when suddenly Adams's voice came back over the environment suit's communication system. =^=There it is again, that damned breeze!=^= =^=I felt nothing,=^= said Talbot as he too closed his second to last panel and then began work on the final one. =^=Solar winds?=^= =^=Not here,=^= replied holographic Adams. "Haven't you noticed? No damned sun nearby." He reached down and opened up another panel. The real Adams started to walk over, watching on. ~Could this be it?~ he thought. ~What was I doing that could cause the accident?~ =^=I think my suit heater is on the blink...why me?=^= came Adam's voice over the communication system. =^=Let me check and see if your suit is giving off any spiked readings,=^= Will said as he did a quick scan. =^=Adams, I don't see anything wrong with the suit, I don't know why your not experiencing the proper heat from the suit.=^= =^=Yeah, beats me,=^=, said holographic Adams. Just then the open panel in front of the engineering officer started to arc with electricity and holographic Adams jumped back away from the hull relying on the tether to prevent him from drifting off into space. =^=Damn, what was that!=^= Ensign Talbot looked up and then started running towards the engineer floating above the hull. Suddenly the panel shot off from the hull and flew out into space. =^=It's not supposed to do that,=^= exclaimed the ensign. =^=No shit Sherlock,=^=, Holographic Adams exclaimed. =^=Uh, I think we need to get our asses off of this hull Lieutenant Commander. Something isn't right, this is not normal at all...I've never seen any...=^= Just then a massive electrical discharge arched across the entire hull. Two arcs went right through the two engineers and a blinding light blue light started enveloping the hull. "Computer. Freeze program," stated the real Adams. The simulation froze and he walked over to the two engineers floating in space with looks of pain on their face, their mouths open in silent screams. "Computer go back to time index 32 point 16 and remain frozen." The scene reset itself so that holographic Adams had the panel off and he was started to look at the circuitry. Adams bent over the holographic version of himself to see what he was messing with. ~Hmm,~ thought Adams. ~None of these systems appear capable of causing the accident.~ "Computer. Resume." The holographic Adams didn't even reach in and touch any of the systems. =^=I think my suit heater is on the blink...why me?=^= "Computer. Pause," Adams said out loud. "He didn't...I didn't touch the system. There must have been some outside force." "Computer. End program." The outside of the Spectre faded away and was replaced by the holodeck grid. Adams stood there in silence with his eyes closed. A sense of accomplishment washed over the lieutenant. ~I didn't cause it.~ With a sigh of relief he walked towards the exit. He finally felt he could rest. There was a strong acidic smell of smoke, the lights covered everything in a blanket of red and the banshee screen of the alarm deafened him. He crashed onto the deck as it dropped suddenly. The fear had risen inside him. He had to get to the bridge quickly. He heaved him self up and staggered drunkenly along the bucking corridor. He knew that he had to get through the door at the end of the corridor. As he reached the door. He stopped. He knew what was behind the door. It was the same every time. He tried to force his body to stop. Not to move to the door. The door opened and he was facing the bowls of hell. The storm had discharged an energy bolt that had hit the ship. The helm hand exploded into the face of the helmsman how had been thrown back out of his seat and the Communications officer who had been standing by a wall mounted console, had been thrown up into it. She was lying on the floor with parts of her consol protruding from her back. His father had been hit by an energy surge from his console. He was in his command chair unable to move because of a peace of the view screen which had shattered had impaled him to the chair. There was the strong stench of fried flesh. Then his saw his mother she was pinned to the floor where a bulkhead hand crushed her back. “Andrew run get to the escape pods quickly.” As he looked at his mother. He knew what was going to happen but could not stop it. [Caution power failure on deck] He felt his stomach lurch as the gravity stopped. Then at the fare end of the bridge a peace of the wall exploded sending a chunk across the bridge. Behind it was a wall of flame which washed across the bridge. He was hit in the chest by the flying chunk and was sent hurtling back down the corridor as the screams of his mother echoed in his ears as the room was engulfed in flame. It should have stopped there. He usually would have woken up screaming but instead of waking up a voice echoed through his dream. “Hush hush, time to be sleepin, Hush hush time to be dreamin.” (Reply None) (Posted by Robbie) (USS Spectre - WIlliams Personal quarters - FO, Williams - 02:17) He awoke slowly trying to register the voice and the song but as the nightmare faded the voice remained. “Dream O peace and O freedom, Say smile in your sleep bonny baby.” Andrew followed the sound of the voice and saw by the window in his quarters illuminated by the starlight was his sister. He blinked trying to get the sleep out of his eyes and as he looked over again his sister was gone. ~What the hell~ He clambered out of bed and hurried over to his window but could see no sigh of his sister. ~She’s dead, I know she is~ He shook his head and headed for the bathroom. “I so need to keep off the caffeine. It is really messing with my head.” He splashed water in his face. As he looked at his sleep deprived face in the mirror he saw his sister again standing behind him by the doorway. His heart skipped a beat. “Audery.” He spun around to find the doorway empty. He stood there for a moment trying to get him self under control. “This is really not good and now I am seeing things. She has been dead for over five years” He walked back into the main area of his quarters. “Computer has there been any one else apart from me in my quarters in the last five minutes?” [Negative] “Grate I am finally going crazy and getting haunted by my dead sister.” He glanced at the ceiling. “This is so not funny. I better go and see Counsellor Samhan I can’t start this not with my history. Computer, make an appointment with Counsellor Samhan at his earliest convenience.” The computer beeped its reply and with that Andrew went to the replicator and got an early breakfast. He settled down to work through some reports as he tried to get his mind off everything. (Reply Samhan IYW) (Posted by Robbie ====================================================================
