Tanya has a mother, father, and one elder brother who is eleven years her senior. Her mother is a Warp Field Scientist, her Father is a Warp Field Scientist. Her brother however chose a different route and became a Maquis rebel and went off to join the resistance.
Following a cross-dimensional jump from the Utopia Planitia Shipyards and the USS Firebrande, Tanya discovered that the Tanya Leigh Dervin of this universe that she has since displaced was the mother of two children: Mark and Tanya Leigh jr. Dervin. Tanya has never met Tanya jr. But has heard quite a bit about her. She has been in sparratic contact with Mark over the years. The father of Mark and Tanya jr. Is none other than Captain Richard Lee, another officer from the Utopia Planitia yards that made the cross dimensional jump. Tanya and the Lee from her dimension (who are now both in the current timeline) are not the best of friends, however they have been known to be civil to each other on special occasions.

Education

Attended L'Ting University in Vulcan for a bachelor and masters in Warp Field Technologies Attended the Daystrom Institue to achieve her doctorate in Warp Field Technologies. Tanya attended a variety of schools on the planet Vulcan where her father and mother's scientific community was stationed.
Following that, she has continued her own research on warp theories and has attended several conferences on those subjects. She is considered a specialist in her field and has come up with many new innovations. She has been approached several times to teach courses or to lecture at conferences, however, at this time, she does not feel that it would be the most productive use of her time.

Pre-Starfleet History

Tanya attended a variety of Vulcan schools in her childhood, having grown up in a small scientific community on Vulcan. Tanya often found herself isolated and devoid of company her own age. In this respect, she grew up very early as she was often regarded as an child trying to make herself fit into an adult's world. As a result of the community in which she was raised and the planet on which she was raised, Tanya does not have excellent social skills, she is extremely focussed on her work, and is very passionate about it. Sometimes she may appear rude and over defensive towards her work but that is mainly due to the fact that her work is the product of her life, almost her child, and she is overprotective of it

Medical History

Tanya is allergic to Klingon Targ's, Terran Canines, Terran Felians and Tarkasian Razor beasts. She is also allergic to Vulcan Tea, Bolarian Canapees and Chocolate which is something that she dearly loves. Tanya sometimes wears glasses for reading and doing work at Computer terminals and running simulations for long periods of time even though the technologies of the time could easily find an aid to her eyestrain
Tanya would love to be able to prove that Starfleet is hazardous to her health so that she might get a medical discharge. To this effect, she found herself asphyxiating in space on Stardate: 2406.11.02 as a magic genie granted her wish to be out of the fleet and placed her out into space. She has recovered from this incident with her commission intact (unfortunately.)

Skills

Tanya excels in any field that interests her, unfortunately for her overall development she has only ever been interested in warp technologies. She is entirely consumed in a world of her own design so to speak. As a result, she is often absent minded, and her thought patterns are tangentile. However, when her work is concerned, or any field that relates to her work for that matter, she is extremely focussed and clear headed. Tanya has tried on several occasions to keep house plants, but they always end up dying because she forgets to care for them. For this reason she does not have a pet.
Due to her lack of exposure to complex social settings as a child, Tanya's interpersonal relations are somewhat lacking. She does not interface easily with others and is most definately not a fan of following orders. This makes her forced tenure in Starfleet difficult for both herself and those around her.
