History, Education and Skills
Family and Background :

Mason's father and mother were special liaisons for the Federation to Vulcan, advisers on Terran affairs — all in the name of good interstellar relations between two of the Federation's founding races. His father, John Garrett, was killed during a trip back to Earth when his transport was overtaken by a terrorist ship. Terrorists? Attacking a consular transport in the heart of Federation space, carrying a relatively unimportant diplomat? Odd. There are factions in the galaxy who would love to create tensions between Vulcans and humans, but this attack would hardly shake the solid relations between those two worlds. But that's what the official reports stated. The galaxy is a strange place. Mason who was twelve at the time. He and his mother went back to Earth for the funeral. After a time of convalescence, his mother asked to be reassigned to Vulcan to get on with her work and her life. A few months later, his mother, Alicia, was overcome by a rare disease and died. One question in Mason's mind was why hadn't internal bio-scanners in the consular's complex forewarned of the presence of this exotic bacteria? Computers on Vulcan are almost infallible.

Education

:

Starfleet Academy Taught at the feet of a Vulcan tutor, Pata. Some training at Vulcan Science Academy.

Pre-Starfleet History

:

After the death of his parents, a Vulcan named Pata, a friend of his father, took Mason as a foster son. Pata was also the father of Pelek, Mason's Vulcan friend. Pata was a former disciple of the Kohlinar training facility near Mount Salaya (spelling ?). But at the time of John Garrett's death he was an active member of Star Fleet Intelligence. Mason had been fascinated by Vulcan philosophy all of his life. He was educated at the home of Pata, alongside his friend. Pata recognized the human boy's intellectual potential and natural mental discipline. Under the older Vulcan's tutelage, he excelled in his education. Though not a telepath Mason was very intuitive and a quick thinker. Pata taught him how to calm his emotions and focus his thoughts. As a result, Mason became very stoic and intellectual in nature. His human peers began to say he was as Vulcanized as old rubber. - The disciplined mind can excel at any endeavor, Pata always said. The undisciplined mind excels only in chaos. - Though not a natural telepath, Mason learned how to receive impressions from telepathic beings. He also became adept at focusing his thoughts to allow Vulcans to read his thoughts more clearly.

Starfleet History

:

Since being assigned to the 52nd Fleet, Mason's life has been anything but uneventful. On his third day aboard the USS Mystique, his first ship assignment after leaving the Academy, an insurgent force of Marines loyal to Doenitz boarded the ship. Though an Ops officer at the time, Mason had been assigned to assist James Denton in finding the whereabouts of an away team. When the Marines began beaming into the Engineering Deck, Mason managed to escape capture or death through the connecting Jeffries tubes. A short time later he rescued an unconcious young woman out from Engineering. When she revived the two officers, though both wounded, worked together to secure a runabout on the Flight Deck, thus allowing the command crew accessto the smaller vessels transporters.

Medical History

:

Skills

Mason has an inclination toward math and science, and is well-versed in gravitational fields and gravitonic physical theories.

Other Information
Hobbies :

Mason likes to work out both mind and body. He meditates and spends time in a gymnasium or goes swimming. His Klingon friend, Bartok, introduced him to a variety of Klingon work-out programs on the holodeck which includes a grueling gymnasium setting and hunter-warrior scenarios. For recreation he enjoys a rock-climbing program in the holodeck.

General Notes

:

Since the death of his parents, Mason tends to be suspicious of the inner-workings of the Federation bureaucracy. He feels someone inside that bureaucracy wanted his parents dead. He's not entirely sure why? Maybe he's becoming slightly paranoid. But his father had become very critical of the Federation and of Starfleet.
