Raised from bith on the cargo ship SS Epsilon, Alex has alays been around traders, smugglers, and the occassional theif. Growing up on the ship his academic studies were taught through his mother Lillian, his father(Marcos) on the other hand insisted he knew starships inside and out. Constantly moving he would rarely have friends besides the others on the ship. He soon was working the engine room with the others. While others his age were playing games he was learning how to change an intake valve on a war engine. The know how of ships and engines came easily to him, although his methods of keeping an engine running weren't entirely up to regulation. But he and the crew kept the Epsilon working, long past its expiry date.

At the age of 18 Alex's father Marco decided he needed to set out on his own, dropping him at the aging K-7 starbase, with enough credits to survive for a week. His luck started strong and after a few days he was already a shiphand on another trader, where he slowly butted heads with the captain who eventually kicked him off. Bouncing around and having his luck fail, Alex after a night drowning his sorrows, decided to enlist in Starfleet.

With an inate ability to understand any engine and starship, he can keep a ship running as smooth as butter with enough time and a few lound angry hits with a spanner. After living a life of a trader for so many years he has a wealth of knowledge on all sides of the quadrant, some of that is not always so legal. His quick hands are also one to watch at a poker match.
