L Risa's parents were ambassadors to Earth. He is the youngest of four children and was the only child to be born on Earth. In human terms, he was the runt of the litter. His two older brothrs were constantly tormenting and harrassing him, while his sister, the first-born tended to interven on his behalf when she could. As he grew a little older he became able to defend himself, not by brute strength, but by out-thinking his brothers and by being quicker and more agile than them. He majored in recess in his early years, prefering to play than to study. He was always one of the first ones picked in sports, especially ones where he could use his speed and dexterity. He was especially fond of baseball.

Pre-Starfleet History

When he was 16 his father died from a heart attack and a year and a half later, his mother died from a stroke. He begin to look at things much more seriously after that. He began to apply himself in school and decided to pursue medicine to reserach and find a cure for the heart problems that so many of his people have. He went from making D and C's in his sophomore year to almost straight As when he was graduated from High School He then went back to his home planet to attend medical school. He joined Star Fleet out of both a sense of duty and love for the Federation and for the opportunity to use their advanced medical facilities.

While his parents both died from heart disease there have been no abnormalities in his heart and after extensive testing back on Cait he is one of the rare Caitians not affected by heart problems.

Skills

L Risa has a keen and curious mind. He is able to think well on his feet and while his curiousity has a tendency to get him in trouble sometimes(there was the incident at the tavren at Alpha Gama IV with the 3 Klingons)he is usually able to talk his way out of most situations. He is however not afraid to fight if he has to. He has a black belt in Akido and has started taking Judo. While no expert with a phaser he knows which end is which and can usually hit his target. He was always good at simulation games and on the advice of his Star Fleet Academy counselor decided to specialize in operations and tactics at the Academy to suplement his medical skills. He has taken a couple of years of navigation as well and a hanful of communication classes, but his two great loves are medicine and operations.
