Pre-Starfleet History |

Solkar had the distinction of being born to a family long devoted to the sciences. His father, Sarketh, a stern individual even by Vulcan standards is a prominent botanist whose advances in hydroponics and terraformation are well regarded. His mother TLiraa is a professor of biology whose own work is well known. It was hoped that Solkar would replace Sarketh in his work at Shi-Kahr Academy along with his brother KLarvik.
Always curious, at the age of twelve Solkar discovered a journal in dusty container in the attic of his family home. In the crate was a diary through which he discovered the existence of an uncle named Kvaros. Kvaros was a follower of a small sect of Vulcans who adhered to the Vtoshkatur belief that Vulcans should express emotions along with embracing logic; that through embracing emotions and directing such feelings as passion that they could further the pursuit of logic. Kvaros was treated as an outcast and along with other followers of the Vtoshkatur, he left Vulcan. Solkar was surprised to discover that Kvaros was an astronomer and in the journal he wrote his notes and scientific explanations. To Solkar it was proof in the logical sense that Kvaros had proven his Vtoshkatur philosophy. Quite coincidentally, Solkar had an interest in astronomy.
Enterring ShiKarh Academy at the early age of thirteen, Solkar displeased his father when he enrolled in astronomy and xenobiology courses instead of botany. Only because that Solkar had placed first in the screening tests did his parents allow him to continue with his studies. Sarketh, however, would make several comments about Solkars choice to remind of him of his displeasure.
It was to be the first step of many. Solkar secretly studied the Vtoshkatur even going so far as to hack into the Academys computer server to obtain restricted material. He eventually came to believe that emotions were natural elements and that Vulcans wasted a great deal of brain power controlling and inhibiting them. It was far easier to accept them and use them to further the pursuit of logic. Solkar began to express his emotions. He waited until after graduating ShiKahr Academy to openly embrace himself as a Vtoshkatur. Prepared for the falling out, he joined Starfleet Academy knowing that his family viewed service (even in Starfleet) as a lowly career choice. When he informed his parents that he was following his uncle, Kvaros teachings; Solkar was told to leave the family home by Sarketh.
Solkar hopes to find out what happened to his uncle and the others of the Vtoshkatur in addition to satisfying his curiosity by becoming an explorer.

Other Information |
Hobbies |
: |
Sword fighting as a means of relaxing and letting his thoughts wonder free which is considered undisciplined by the Vulcan. He picked this up in Starfleet Academy where he became a top swordsman in the Academy Fencing Team. Also has an interest in puzzles especially those that test his knowledge. Among them is a rare Bolian puzzle called The Forge through which a series of mathematical equations have to be solved to plot coordinates that will, hypothetically,y create a picture of the universe. Only small parts of it have been cracked. He likes deeply complex problems ranging from the mathematical to the outright bizarre. Solkar enjoys being presented with a problem that is considered unsolvable. He also has an interest in human culture and behavior. |
General Notes |
: |
Having embraced the Vtoshkatur (Vulcans who express their emotions while being devoted to logic) Solkar has encountered the typical psychological fallout. Rejected by Vulcan society and by his family he has periods of depression that he handles in a personal matter but has creatively found methods to express these issues. Part of the teachings Vtoshkatur include preparing oneself for rejection by Vulcan society and thus it has been deemed that Solkar does not suffer from anything detrimental to his duties. |

Admiral Bell threw her arms around the Ensign, "You don't have to be scared anymore, you don't have to be guilty anymore, you are not responsible for what that madman did to you.", she said to her quietly and for a moment longer, releasing her from the embrace. "It's going to take time, its going to be a toll... I will be right here, and I am not going anywhere."
