Starfleet History

:

Starfleet Academy 2268-2272 VanHornes history can be summed up by his pervasive desire to command a starship, a destiny that is often sought by others, yet not quite with as much enthusiasm. His experiences and failures have shaped him into an individual who is constantly trying to learn from his mistakes, and perfect what he sees to be almost a holy pursuit; taking mankind into the stars for the great purpose of bettering his race. An earlier mission that lead to the scuttling of his first command left him with a sense of personal defectiveness, and a keen sense of his own frailty and weakness. Since then, he is constantly aware of the possibility of failure, and strives daily to not succomb to it, with almost a maddening ambition. This can only be sated with the good counsel of friends and trusted advisors, many of whom he makes certain serve on the same ship as he . . .

Medical History

:

VanHorne is over-all healthy, with the small exception being somewhat clumsy and uncoordinated, a failing that cost him early on when trying out for senior helmsman of the USS Yorktown.

Skills

:

Gifted navigator, a strong, complex personality, veteran of hundreds of space emergencies. High proficiency in xenodiplomacy.

General Notes

:

Psychological Evaluation: VanHorne tends to be compassionate, yet occasionally overzealous when pressured by the needs of many. Somewhat reactionary, he can often regret not stepping back from a seemingly volatile situation. Highly intelligent, his strengths come not from “going things alone” but knowing when to rely on his crew, and using their strengths appropriately. Can verge on being a “control freak” and often dismisses the ideas of others, sometimes to his detrement. It is a handicap he is seeking to correct.

Awards :

Admiral Bell threw her arms around the Ensign, "You don't have to be scared anymore, you don't have to be guilty anymore, you are not responsible for what that madman did to you.", she said to her quietly and for a moment longer, releasing her from the embrace. "It's going to take time, its going to be a toll... I will be right here, and I am not going anywhere."
