Body type ectomorphic/mesomorphic; comparatively broad shoulders and wasp-waisted; built for speed and maneuverability, not for handling freight. Curly black hair over a strong-featured face; his features betray a strong Greek ancestry that his name belies. Can appear “dreamy” at times, when in thought; slips into an easy smile when in company. |
History, Education and Skills |
Family and Background |
: |
Carl was born into a typical line-family, with three fathers, two mothers, four older siblings and two younger (not counting the various pets). As most of his family were practicing or budding techs of various types, it seems obvious that his natural curiosity would have driven him to pursue the *whys* behind the many hows his family earns it’s living by. |
Education |
: |
Proxima University (Master of Science): Carl earned a Master's degree in general science; he concentrated on mastering overall scientific principles and processes, backed by a basic knowledge - wide in scope but limited in depth - of most branches of science. Any specialist will be his clear superior in limited-scope operations, but Deston knows a little about almost everything, and he is extremely good at observing, recording and processing data.
Starfleet Academy: Carl graduated from the Academy as an Ensign junior grade, doing quite well enough, thank you. |
Pre-Starfleet History |
: |
Carl "Babe" Deston - so nicknamed both for his diminutive stature, and the "dreamy" look he gets when lost in thought (which is all too often) - grew up on Proxima, one of Earth's first colony worlds. Proxima serves the Proxima Maintenence yards, and Carl grew up in the primary city serving the yards, Virginia City. Almost everyone in Virginia City is in Starfleet, is associated with Starfleet, or works in the many support and infrastructure services necessary to keeping the city running. Carl spent a lot of time with family members on their jobs - all of them are technicians of some sort or other, from emergency medical to special electronics. He also ran with a crowd of neighborhood kids, getting into the sort of trouble kids are wont to get into. As he grew older, he found himself less interested in all the "doing" that everyone around him seemed to be involved in, and much more interested in learning the underlying principles behind all the specialized "to-do" knowledge that everyone did their jobs by. Carl soon fell in love with the processes and principles of scientific investigation, and eventually wrangled his way into Proxima University. |
Starfleet History |
: |
Carl Deston has recently graduated from Starfleet Academy with the rank of Ensign junior grade. Carl enjoyed a pretty full student life in the Academy, and while he took no official honors, his instructor for his final examination, Lt. Valek, pronounced Deston's performance "adequate" and his responses "appropriate". |
Medical History |
: |
Carl is allergic to several common Terran pollens and molds – not normally an issue except on Earth, and easily treatable. He also has a genetic predisposition to melanoma, though given normal Starfleet medical techniques, this is also not a problem. |
Skills |
: |
Carl is, physically, a very agile and nimble male. He is a fair martial artist, due more to raw physical ability than to training. He is capable of a high degree of concentration, even in distracting surroundings. He is an excellent scientist and observer, and has some basic artistic skill in drawing. He has an excellent ear for sound as well. |

Other Information |
Hobbies |
: |
Carl enjoys several forms of team sports, as well as his martial arts. He synthesizes “sound sculptures” and music from sounds he records or finds archived. He is quite gregarious, and enjoys being with others in social situations, particularly bars and restaurants. He is an indifferent game player, but enjoys playing them anyway, for the social interaction. |

Admiral Bell threw her arms around the Ensign, "You don't have to be scared anymore, you don't have to be guilty anymore, you are not responsible for what that madman did to you.", she said to her quietly and for a moment longer, releasing her from the embrace. "It's going to take time, its going to be a toll... I will be right here, and I am not going anywhere."
