History, Education and Skills |
Family and Background |
: |
T'Kusilaya grew up in a stable Vulcan home, and maintains a close relationship with her family, as Vulcan custom and her career allow. Her parents are teachers on Vulcan; her father a warp physics professor, her mother a teacher of young children. Her decision to join Starfleet was influenced by her close relationship with a favorite aunt who was in Starfleet. Her parents were neither surprised nor disappointed with her choice, as they understood her desire to interact closely with a wide variety of species amongst the stars. They encouraged her early talent for practical applications of physics, and consider her use of them in service of Starfleet to be a logical way for her to seek realization of her full potential.
T'Kusilaya's family was, and is, stable, but not entirely typical of mainstream Vulcan culture. Her name means she who posses a significant, resonant richness that moves the emotions." Her mother, especially, often discussed with T'Kusilaya the dubious logic of a race born with emotions denying them their due influence. Controlling one's responses, applying logic to temper emotional reactions, she considered to be an admiral goal; but the idea of emotion and logic being mutually exclusive was, well, illogical to her, especially considering that her observations of the children in her charge displayed inherently logical patterns within their emotional responses. Thus, her parents did not follow the Vulcan tradition of choosing a bonded mate for their daughter as a child, but rather opted to allow her to seek out a logical choice of a mate for herself as an adult, trusting to their upbringing and T'Kusilaya's own wisdom. So far, she has not encountered a candidate she deems suitable, but as T'Kusilaya is young as Vulcans count youth, she sees no logical reason to hurry the process.

Typical Vulcan education |
Pre-Starfleet History |
: |
T'Kusilaya entered Starfleet as soon as her standard education was completed. She has no significant work history prior to her graduation from the Academy.
|
Starfleet History |
: |
Dual major in Physics and Ship's Systems Management. During her stay at the Academy in San Francisco, she became suspicious of the motivations driving the current leadership of the Federation. Apparently, some of her questions caught the attention of certain members of the faculty, who then quietly directed her to Lodona's 52nd Fleet.

Medical History |
: |
Good health, save a tendency toward cold sensitivity, resulting form a bout with frostbite as a child |
Skills |
: |
T'Kusilaya is an extremely talented touch telepath. Her abilities seem to extend to inorganic systems to some extent, giving her an extraordinary "feel" for ship's systems. Coupled with her fine sense of hearing and smell, she can often accurately diagnose and repair mechanical and electronic systems long before standard diagnostic methods identify the problem.

Other Information |
Hobbies |
: |
T'Kusilaya likes puzzles of all kinds, and building small gadgets (then taking them apart and rebuilding them, with "improvements"). She also likes to dance. Her favorite martial art is an old Earth form known as Capoeira, which originated in Africa and developed in Brazil, incorporating acrobatics and dance moves and including musical training. She is familiar with many forms of music, and enjoys analyzing, combining and applying them in creative ways. When facilities are available, she is an excellent vegetarian cook.

General Notes |
: |
T'Kusilaya sees logic as an admirable discipline, and as the best way to monitor and manage emotional responses, but not as an end in itself. Thus, she tends to smile more easily than most of her kind, which sometimes takes others, especially fellow Vulcans, off guard, much to her amusement. She is also not averse to displaying negative emotions in appropriate contexts, and has even been known to cry openly and completely without shame at events worthy of tears. However, it would be a mistake to assume that her relative emotionality in any way indicates a reduced capacity for logic, as many have found, much to their dismay, as her flawlessly logical arguments humbled them. Her friends commonly call her Teak |

Admiral Bell threw her arms around the Ensign, "You don't have to be scared anymore, you don't have to be guilty anymore, you are not responsible for what that madman did to you.", she said to her quietly and for a moment longer, releasing her from the embrace. "It's going to take time, its going to be a toll... I will be right here, and I am not going anywhere."
