The very attractive Ensign enticed him further over a possible dinner meal
by listing the ingredients for a New Zealand Fry Up.
“Bacon, eggs, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, and toast. None of that black
pudding or baked beans the Pom’s like so much,” she said. “You can have
normal bread, but it’s best with a Maori fry bread, in my opinion.” She
told the table. “I’m not much of a cook, my mum didn’t let me in the
kitchen, and with replicators, it’s a bit easier. I do have the replicator
recipe with my gear. Perhaps in the coming days.”
Tegian nodded. "If that's an offer, Ensign, then I accept." Tegian's
pitch for a change in her VISOR, however, didn't go as he had hoped.
Pihi chuckled, “I was born without an optic nerve and most of the current
technologies require an optic nerve to connect to. I don’t understand what
the doctors did, but this one works just fine. I really appreciate you
looking into it, and your designs, but for now, I’d rather not be trying to
relearn now to ‘see’ as it were. Besides, I think this one goes with my
tattoo, don’t. you?”
Lieutenant Bohb chimed in with support. “I would still like to have a look
at the device and see what can be done. If for no other reason, than to be
able to replicate another if it became necessary. As for how it looks, I
personally enjoy looking at your tattoos. They are intriguing, with or
without a visor.”
"I'll have my proposals sent to you, Lieutenant. Thank you," he replies to
the Magellan.
Tegian nodded, to both Bohb and Piripi, noting how the tattoo melded
perfectly with her VISOR. "I apologize that I hadn't noticed." He spent a
long time studying her face closer before he realized what he was doing and
cleared his throat in embarrassment. Continuing, he said, "Any newer
models could be of the same size. As far as needing to relearn to see, has
that been a problem in the past?" he asked with some concern. "I worry
because if this VISOR gets damaged, I will need to repair it and I want you
to have something to use. So, perhaps a compromise? A backup VISOR? Same
spectrum, distance and size as your current one, but with a far less energy
draw. And you'll have backups in case anything happens to the one you're
wearing. With all the additional safety precautions so there's no repeat
of what occured on the shuttle."
Bohb then looked over at Tegian and tried to wink at him, “Perhaps you and
Tegian can discuss the matter further over dinner some time?”
Tegian looked to Ensign Piripi with an amused expression. "Ensign? Would
you be interested in having dinner with me?"
(Reply Piripi, others)
