(USS Iluminar - Deck 6 - Biochemistry Lab - CSRD - Lt Bohb - 1537)

"The nanites are not the only thing bypassing our security measures...," the Vulcan intoned, "...how did you gain access to this lab?"

Bohb looked at the CO with concern. Since he entered the lab he had pretty much kept out of sight behind the opaque walls of his area. Although Sekal had to have seen him come in, is it possible that he had forgotten he was there? Clearly the nanites were starting to have a neural effect on the Vulcan. He decided not to address it at this point.

“You should know by now Captain I have my ways,” Bohb said. “You know that whatever I do is because it is important and he handed the PADD to him, stating his concern covertly.

"We are no less at risk than any other crewman. The agent has just been isolated and are nanites. Since you are available I expect you to help Doctor Solice find a way to neutralize them. If you require additional assistance myself and the science department are also available."

Bohb nodded, hoping they found the answer before whatever was happening to them was irreversible. He took his PADD back and headed back to his work station. However, with a few commands he changed his wall from opaque to clear. It meant he’d have to leave his top up, but he could endure the itch.

He went to the computer and began to access Khatri’s data and collated it with his. Suddenly Doctor Solice transported into the room. Sekal’s greeting to her was a bit more cordial.

The conversation ensued in what Khatri and Sekal had found and her theories. Khatri mentioned using gamma radiation and mentioned the incident on the Enterprise D. The problem with that analogy was that in that case the nanites had infected the computer core, not a living organism. The effects of gamma radiation on humanoids was devastating. She realized that. Then there was the suggestion of an EM pulse. But that would be devastating to the ship's systems. The idea of rotating people on a nonessential part of the ship was intriguing, but now they knew that the nanites had infected the ship as well.

"I have one last option,” Khatri said,. “I was able to contact the facility on Earth that manufactures nanites, though I had to go through several Starfleet channels to be given access. They're built with an emergency dissolve system. If we can determine that the nanites attacking us also have one and we can discover the frequency to activate it, we can shut them down. We would then need to purge their remains from our bodies, either through our natural immune systems or by artificial means."

“Are you saying that WE, put these nanites out there?” Solace said incredulously.

Khatri held her hands up and replied, "No, I'm not saying that, I thought the best place to get information on nanites, was from the people that designed and manufactured them."

Bohb interjected, “The problem is that they may have put those safeguards in nanites they produce. But we have no idea who built these, and for what purpose. Nor do we have any idea how to shut them down.”

“Are you able to get a hold of one of the buggers and find what it is made of?” Solice asked.

"Yes. Captain Sekal has some on a slide under a microscope. You can look at them if you want," said Zara.

At that moment the conversation was interrupted with the news of the death of Doctor Vanderstein. The news hit Quinna hard, as it did with Khatri. To her credit Solice returned to the discussion.

“I admit, I only have a rudimentary skillset when it comes to nanites,” she admitted. “Maybe our resident scientists Penn and Teller may be able to help. At this point, Isolation protocols are worthless anyway.”

Bohb grinned. He had already sent the data to their lab. “I had the same idea. I have also been following the data from Dr. Kyllee with Ms. Tavay. He has found some interesting tidbits that might be useful.”
