Mission: For Honor
Day: 5
Stardate: 2446.04.28
(Qo'nos - Diplomatic Quarters - CO, Captain Sekal - 0920)
Sekal listened closely as his acting CSO was discussing the situation with
the head of the ambassadorial mission.
"But the Klingons have a word for someone who fights according to 'terms of
engagement.' Do you know what that word is?"
(Reply McKenzie)
"The word is 'dead.' If there are lines you will not cross, you cede an
advantage to your adversary. Wherever two or more of those lines intersect,
you may find yourself backed into the corner formed by them. You might not
consider that 'honorable' but the Klingons do. They always have, and they
probably always will."
(Reply McKenzie)
"Is it lamentable, for example, that I had to kill 3 of my crew-mates
aboard my father privateer vessel? Possibly. Would I have died if I hadn't
defended myself. Yes. Did I fight in any way 'fairly?' Certainly not.
What's the Terran expression? Oh, yes: 'forgive me father for I have
sinned.' Well, I imagine it's difficult to repent when you're dead. So …
did you want the qutluch back, or did you not?"
"I do not believe the Ambassador has an interest in martial weaponry nor
would be be conversant with the wielding of it." Sekal noted as they turned
their eyes to him.
He remembered quite vividly what had occurred during the war game and its
aftermath. Then Ensign Galk had sent two of the crew of the enemy Defiant
class vessel into convalescent leave, threatened to kill the first officer
of that vessel then broken his arm during unarmed combat to regain his
honor after being captured by the crew.
Commander ... was it Rashenko? His memory of that alien name was shaky at
best had refused to press charges. Despite that Sekal had heard numerous
threats to court martial the Klingon by lower ranking flag officers until
his assurances that the officer was in control and competent had finally
mollified them.
Klingons were vicious, savage by nature when faced with a threat, had Galk
not been in control Rashenko would have died, broken over his knee. Their
strength matched their nature as well and had he not reined in that
strength those that he had injured would have been dead. It was impossible
to rationalize it any other way, he had seen to their survival and this is
what had finally turned the tide.
"I might also add that wielding a weapon or being seen to wield one would
make the Ambassador a target in the event our hosts turned against us."
(Reply: Lanista)
"That is of course up to Ambassador McKenzie to decide." He gave a slight
shrug.
"As for why I requested the Lieutenant's presence. This group has been
deadlocked on the question of why the Chancellor has been stalling these
negotiations and what this delay might portend. I have three officers
aboard the ship who have some insight into the Klingon mindset and two of
them have gone to petition the council. If you have any questions I suggest
you ask them of Lieutenant Tha'lanista. As you see she can be a veritable
font of information."
(Reply: McKenzie, Lanista)
