ILLUMINARRPG: (5 - 0857) ACONN Alex Dyson

(USS Illuminar – Dyson’sQuarter – ACONN Alex Dyson – 0857)

 

Kelly wascatching up on her sleep in her own quarters, leaving Alex alone to make hisproposal. 

But beforehe got to work on that, there was the issue of getting permission for Kelly sometime off. 

 

Duringtheir talk last night, she had told him about what had happened to Joy Chinlo.And her current status within the department. ~Keep it simple. Just keep it asclose to the truth as possible.~ He hit several keys and computer began a recording.It was addressed to Lieutenant Grey Wolf and Lieutenant-Commander T’Mur.

 

“Hello,Lieutenant and Commander. Kelly told me about what happened to with CrewmanChinlo and how she is currently suspended. I believe it would do her mentalstate good if the two of us went on vacation together,” This was totally true.“So I am hereby putting in a request for leave time for the both us. Thedetails are in attachment Alpha.” He had simply filled in the standard form.“We’re still working on the destination of our trip. As soon as we know, I’llsend you an update. Regards, Ensign Alexander Dyson.”

 

If hemanaged to get Weston aboard with his crazy plan, he would send them a message sayingthat he was taking her to New Romulus to introduce her to Yenna. Which would betrue. Next, he had an idea for finding his old roommate, Emile Schofield. ~If Ican find him, he will come.~ But it was the finding part that was the hard bit.

 

He hitseveral keys and the computer made a connection to Radio Hub One. Radio Hub Onewas collection of independent subspace radio stations that covered most of theAlpha and Beta Quadrant. People could submit messages for friends that wouldthen be read out loud on the stations. Alex began typing his message.

Back inthe orphanage, Emile and Alex sometimes used subspace walkie-talkies. Joker wasthe only one who knew the frequency they used. He was also the only one whowould understand the message. That message send, he activated the encryptionprotocols on his console. It took a couple more buttons, but he routed themessage to the IKS Skral. 

 

“Rox,it’s Alex. I’m working on making the trip to New Romulus happen. But theStarfleet brass will throw a fit if I just go and get our girl. So we need acover story. Yeah, I know, not very honorable. But I can’t do my job as Mac’sfather if they won’t even let me off the frakking ship. Find everything you canabout a Slaver ship called the Chalche’yon and then raise a stink to theIlluminar’s spook, Lieutenant Michael Weston.” ~And we’re off to the races…~

 

“Howyou’ve been assigned to impound the vessel, how the Empire considers this a toppriority, and so on. Call in favors, get people to back you up. You know, thenormal diplomatic chest pounding.  Oh,and make a point about how we can’t wear Starfleet uniforms or civilian clothesduring this trip. Say it’s a security risk. Trust me, it’ll make sense later.Alex out.”

 

He sendthe message, then programmed the computer to keep the next messages in itsmemory. They would only be delivered when the pre-programmed recipient,Lieutenant Michael Weston, returned to the ship. With a bit of luck, by then,Rox and friends would have send messages about the Chalche’yon to Weston. Ofcourse, he knew that Rox – being the drunk that he was – probably didn’t havemany friends. But all they would need to make it sound legal, was one or two.He began with the official message, which he named file Alpha One.

“FromAlexander Dyson, Ensign, Flight Control to Michael Weston, Lieutenant,Starfleet Intelligence. Per your verbal request, I have made enquiriesregarding the location of the Privateer vessel Chalche’yon. My sources indicatethat it is currently operating within the Romulan Republic near New Romulus.” 

 

“Due tothe Chalche’yon’s Klingon origin, it has also drawn the attention of theKlingon military, who wish to impound the vessel.” This was the part of thestory that the messages from Rox and company would sell. If the brass came knockingon Weston’s door, he would have plausible deniability. 

 

“However,due to the vessel’s current location, they are unable to do so without startinga full scale war between the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Republic.Therefore, they have verbally requested our aid in securing the vessel. Due tosecurity concerns,  no transcript of thisrequest was made.” ~Sounds official enough.~ “Further operational suggestionswill follow in file Alpha Two. Dyson out.”

The computerfiled the message as ordered. Next, Alex created file Alpha Two. Before hebegan his dictation, he added a table that would be displayed when Westonopened the file. Instead of using names, he used Starfleet serial numbers. Theonly exception was Rox, for who he used his KDF service number. Alex was Alpha,Weston was Bravo, Kelly was Charlie, Vermyx was Delta and Rox was Epsilon.Finally, Mac was Longinquus. ~Latin for Distant Relative.~ That done, he beganthe recording.

“From Alphato Bravo. I have confirmed the existence of Longinquus. She is on New Romulus,staying with her half-sibling and her half-sibling’s mother. Longinquus’ motherhas given up her parental right, leaving me one of her two legal familymembers,” He paused. ~How to break him the news about Rox. “The only otherfamily member remaining is a Klingon officer by the name of Rox, who isLonginquus grandfather. I am well aware how politically…” He searched for theproper word. 

 

“….disruptivethe presence of a Klingon in Romulan space can potentially be. However, OfficerRox has made it clear that he will go to New Romulus, if we aid him or not. Byfolding him into the mission, we should be able to prevent any negative falloutfrom his presence. Furthermore, Delta has suggested that we can keep OfficerRox in transporter stasis to hide his presence from Romulan sensors.” Hescratched his beard.

 

“Finally,I recommend bringing Delta as mission engineer and Charlie as security presence,”The transcribed file included everybody’s service number for identification.“To reduce our chances of detection, I recommend we use the Captain’s Yacht,which is equipped with a cloaking device. Alpha out.”

He addedthe message to the list. So far, he had been doing nothing but winding up. ~Nowcomes the actually pitch.~ He began recording the last message, Alpha Three. Hewas spreading his pitch over multiple files, so that the file size stayed smalland didn’t attract too much attention. ~Here comes the last piece of the puzzle.~

“Proposedmission: Bird travels to target with Alpha through Epsilon aboard. Bird thenreturns to the nest with Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Longinquus aboard. This willgive those aboard the vessel plausible deniability and insures Longinquus’ securereturn. Alpha and Epsilon will remain at target and deal with the Klingons’ request.”He paused, then took a deep breath and added the hard part. 

 

“I couldtell you more, Bravo, but I believe the less you know, the better. I have madearrangements for the case that I do not return.” This was not true yet, but hehad plans in his head already. “In such a case, Charlie will become the legalguardian of Longinquus. Alpha out.”

He addedthe last message to the row and then closed the folder. That done, he opened anew message and dictated a will. His parents had used a notary called GerryJones for all their legal matters. Alex had been surprised to learn that he wasstill on the man’s client list, which he learned during his visit to Mars. Joneshad helped him with the paperwork for his parents’ apartment. The will complete,he send it to Jones. His last message send, he walked out of his quarters andheaded for the officers lounge. He needed some time with his fellow Starfleetofficers. Just in case this whole thing went wrong and this was his lastchance.
