 ( Qo'nos- Council Chambers – Lieutenant Galk, Son of Jos - 0840)

Galk was braced as Eshag came at him bellowing but the other Klingon was
nearly equal in mass and the impact rocked him, knocking him to the floor.
Neither combatant had yet drawn their dahk’tang and Eshag landed atop him
heavily then lashed out with a right-handed blow to his head. He was able
to turn his shoulders and head so that the follow up blow missed as he
tightened his core muscles and legs then used both hands to heave the other
off of him as he turned his body. Eshag went tumbling away but was on his
feet quickly, pulling his blade as Galk used his left hand to lever himself
to his feet, his right hand was drawing his weapon as well.

The scion of the house of Eshag leaped toward him with blade extended then
executed a back-hand slice aimed at his throat, Galk’s dahk’tang met it and
redirected the strike which cut a line harmlessly across the left sleeve of
his jerkin.

Galk gave a pleased rumble as he circled Eshag from a crouched position,
the weapon now weaving in and out to catch the other's attention.

“I will gut you like a fel’gesh pe’taq!” Eshag snarled as the two faced
one another. “Your ga will not reach Sto’voh’kor from the number of wounds
I inflict.”

“You talk like a politician and fight like one as well.” Galk spat then
lunged forward, Eshag was quick for his size and slipped the attempt to
impale him which left only a deep gouge on his leather chest armor.

He was not a fighter equal to Galk’s skill but his rush slammed into the
bigger Klingon and knocked him off balance as he gave a triumphant cry and
lashed out with the blade. Galk managed to avoid most of the blow as he
spun to his right and the edge left only a slight line on his cheek from
which began to well purple fluid. Galk gathered himself, no longer toying
and launched himself from a crouch to meet the return slash with his own
blade. The sound of steel echoed through the chamber as Morek fretted.

The chamber itself was extensive though the long table took up the center
and the two combatants were fighting to one side. Every Klingon was on his
feet and maneuvering to get a view of the battle. Morek himself was closest
still they fought almost twenty paces from him. Neither had gotten close to
the wall yet, one that found himself with his back against it might well be
killed for a lack of room to maneuver. Eshag was acquitting himself well so
far in the heat of his anger but Galk appeared to be pleased with the
efforts of his opponent. Morek could tell from his fluid movements that he
was conserving energy while Eshag spent his lavishly, as a renowned warrior
he had no doubt how this would most likely end and that disquieted him.
Unless Eshag found some way to overcome his opponent’s strengths or pinned
him against a wall it appeared his doom was certain.

The two came together again in a clash and Galk faked with the Dahk’tang,
set his feet then lashed out with a back-handed blow of his left hand which
rocked the smaller Klingon, sensing victory he drove forward with the
weapon which was knocked from his hand by an unexpected counter. His blade
skittered across the floor as Eshag, now confident brought his own around
in a slash.

Which was stopped as Galk’s hands grappled with his wrist but not without
a wound which trailed across his left forearm. Frenzy was driving Eshag’s
strength and stamina as the two struggled for control of the weapon which
he was trying to use to impale Galk, driving him back step by step.

Morek began to hope the tables had turned as he watched the unfolding
drama until Galk gave a mighty heave and sudden twist which caused the
weapon to be launched from Eshag’s hand to clatter away. The two then
grappled in earnest until a blow from Galk spun Eshag around and sent him
careening in the direction of his dahk’tang. When he had gathered it in he
turned to find that his challenger had re-acquired his own as well.

Morek paced on the periphery in the small area he could carve for himself
from the others who were jostling to watch as his thoughts whirled about in
his head. If Galk killed Eshag what would he do? He had been in the
Federation for several years now and might have formed an attachment, would
he set himself against the Chancellor and his plans? Of that he had no
doubt. With such large holdings Galk would wield considerable power and his
plans laid out so carefully were certain to come to ruin. Galk’s death must
happen if the course he had laid was to come to its conclusion. If he could
aide that in some way he must take advantage. But to step into the conflict
would void it, he had to remain on the side as must the others. At some
point perhaps the tide would turn.

And turn it did but not as he hoped, the blow taken had knocked some of
the stiffness from Eshag and in the flurry of combat following his weapon
was knocked from his hand, a follow-up fist drove him to hs knees.

He looked up as Galk stood over him, his blade poised.

“Do it then!” He shouted. “You with a blade against me unarmed. Execute me
like a coward.”

Galk stood poised over him, remembering a battle of less than a year ago
when he had faced the commander in the war game. And as then he stepped
back and tossed away his blade. “Hand to hand then. I will take your life
in honorable combat and not use my blade against one unarmed.”

It was as Eshag was getting to his feet that the unthinkable happened and
the shout cut through the air.

 “Eshag!”

Morek’s head turned slightly as his eyes found the disruptor pistol which
had been tossed tumbling through the air… and he reacted.

Galk’s eyes caught it as well, he was half-turned toward Morek with Eshag
before him, his opponent’s eyes gleamed as one hand reached out for the
weapon.

 “Galk!”

He heard the sound of ripping wood and caught the flash of steel out of
the corner of his eye as the Bat’leth was tossed between the two, closer to
him than to Eshag.

Out of instinct he stepped forward and reached up, the handle sliding into
his hand as Eshag was bringing the disruptor around. The Klingon sword
handle slid through his hand to the end of the grip as his arm continued to
the left, bringing it across his body, the blade now fully extended. The
disruptor was lifting toward his chest as time seemed nearly to stand still
while the two were caught up in the moment, mere seconds before life or
death. Galk’s swing reversed as he stepped a little closer and brought all
of his considerable muscle to bear, the bat’leth sliced through the air
above Eshag’s outstretched arm a split second before he could pull the
trigger. Eshag’s eyes widened as the chamber was filled with the sound of
flesh separated by steel and the disruptor fell from lifeless fingers as
his body toppled, his head tumbling off the other direction.

Galk allowed the swing to continue, turning his body in order to not tear
muscles in his arm as purple blood gouted from the stump of Eshag’s neck
until the energy of the swing was expended and he allowed the bloody
bat’leth to hang at his side. His eyes turned with his head as he regarded
those others watching in shock, one with his arms now crossed across his
chest and the sound of a scuffle beyond them as his cha’dich handled the
miscreant who had acted dishonorably by giving a weapon to his opponent.

It was then that Morek finally spoke. “Despite what you believe the Empire
as it stands is not without honor.”
