Mission: For Honor
Day: 5
Stardate: 2446.04.28
(Illuminar — CSO's Office — LT, tlha'nISta' — 0856)
Lanista was reviewing her analysis of the explosive residue from the
earlier shuttle crash incident. She had run the testing first using
instrumentation but she had always trusted her own skills and talents more
than anything automated. She was born on and grew up on a Klingon privateer
vessel aboard which something or another was always broken and
malfunctioning. Lani' distrusted Emergency Medical Holograms for this same
reason; her mother had died because the EMH had failed to keep her alive.
Lani's father QolloH didn't fault the EMH, citing the great number of
darseks he'd paid for it. Instead, QolloH blamed his career as a privateer
for his Vulcan mate Ti'amah's demise. QolloH, son of DI'al, was not a
member of a Great House. Instead, he was obliged to be employed by more
powerful families. Ti'amah's mortal wounds arose from what QolloH condemned
as "yet another pointless chore."
The death of her mother was the reason Lanista left the "family business"
in favor of joining Starfleet, by way of first trying to find a home on
Vulcan instead of a Klingon ship…
Lanista was mulling her life choices when the combadge chirped like a
tribble. Being half-Klingon, the woman instinctually cringed at least a
little whenever the device sounded off. She had always wanted to
reconfigure the combadge to use some other signally noise, but she never
did. Modification to issued equipment was generally frowned upon.
=/\=Lieutenant Lanista your presence is required on Qo’nos immediately.
Transport down directly to the diplomatic compound and I will have someone
meet with you to direct you to the meeting room.=/\=
"Permit me to clarify, Captain. You wish me to postpone completion of my
current task so as to rendezvous with you on the Klingon Homeworld?"
=/\=Correct. It would be profitable to have someone with an insight into
Klingon activities and policy to bounce ideas off of and get information
from. We are in a stalemate at the moment and the diplomatic contingent
could use some assistance in planning going forward.=/\=
"Understood. Stalemate is rare in klin zha. Klingons do not play for a
draw. That you are even in a stalemate suggests you have the upper hand.
They just need to be persuaded to admit that. I'll be on my way instantly."
=/\=Captain out.=/\= Sekal signed off.
'Instantly' wasn't precisely a lie. It was, however, a bit of an
exaggeration. Heading down to the surface of Q'onoS would require a bit of
preparation first. Lanista had never set foot on the Klingon Homeworld but
she knew well that no matter where one trod within the Empire, it was wise
to do so as if one belonged there. In that place. Granted, her 2.25-meter
(7'4.58") height permitted her significant excuse or explanation for her
presense anywhere. But Klingons were suckers for Tradition, so Lani' would
play to that.
She moved from her office to her time-pod, a small craft purloined from
Temporal Investigations, which was currently "remora'ed" to the hull of the
Illuminar by means of magnahesion. Lani' called the pod by two names:
jengSI', after her childhood pet; and "Rhett Connor", based on the name of
the pod's A.I. The acting CSO did have quarters aboard the Starfleet
vessel, but she kept most of her personal effects on the pod still —
including her cultural off-duty attire and her full quv bey' (or "honor
display"), which was in essence her private arsenal. No one with any reason
to be on Q'onoS would arrive unarmed. That simply wasn't the Way of the
Warrior.
tlha'nISta' selected a few weapons:
• a DIng-pach ranged weapon that fired ammunition similar to a Capellan
kligat,
• a bach-HIch assault disruptor slung and hanging from one shoulder,
• a Vulcan ahn-woon as a belt, and
• a custom-made Vulcan lirpa — styled somewhat like a Klingon chonnaQ or
ghIntaq.
She also wore a vambrace-and-clawed-gauntlet combination on her left arm
which displayed her personal emblem (a Klingon trefoil and Vulcan IDIC
combined in one badge) even as the vambrace concealed a small blade. The
Starfleet officer expected to be disarmed upon arrival, but that was a
necessary formality. To arrive without any implements of war would provoke
suspicion. 'When you are to be inspected, present what you want to be
found.'
Appropriately attired and equipped, Lani' set the time-pod's chrono
deflector for the source coordinates of Captain Sekal's transmission.
(Q'onoS — Guest Quarters — LT, tlha'nISta' — 0857)
Lani' materialized next to her commanding officer just as he finished
saying, "I have a member of my crew who should be invaluable in giving you
some insight into the Klingon perspective and she will be down shortly."
"Forgive the unorthodoxy, Captain, but your message conveyed a sense of
urgency," Lanista said.
