(USS Illuminar - Deck 3, Long’s Quarters – SO Kelly Long – 1646) 

 

"I do not see them?"

 

“Ma’am ?”

 

"Your bags. I do not see your bags.  Clearly, by your attitude and antagonisticbehaviour towards me you have opted to resign your commission and leaveStarfleet.  Is this not correct?  If you require help getting yourpersonal belongings together I can help you, or assign a crewman to provideassistance.  Is this your desire?"

 

“No, ma’am. I…” She sighed. “I apologize for myoutburst.”

“However, I do think that my desires or apologywill matter much for the outcome, ma’am.” Her head was now in a darker place.It was as if all emotion had leaked out. 

 

“What is that phrase ? The good of the many,outweighs the good of the few ? If the death of Joy Chinlo was my fault…” ~Whichit is.~ “…logic demands that you remove me from the department to increase effectiveness.Prevent my incompetence from causing further damage.” She stood up and put herhands behind her back.

 

“If the death of Crewman Chinlo was your fault…”~Which it isn’t, this one is on me.~ “…then there is the simple fact that the rarera resource, the more valuable it is. Then are less Lieutenant-Commanders thenEnsigns, ergo Lieutenant-Commanders are more valuable to Starfleet. And Starfleetpromotes people based on merit. I am an Ensign, you are a Commander. So you area better security officer. Both logic and strategy demand that you resolve thisissue with the smallest loss of resources and investment.”

 
She stared out the one window of her quarters.  ~Basically, the Commander has no choice but tothrow me under the bus, even if it was not my fault.~ “Compassion is not anoption. A crewmember died, Starfleet Command or Captain Sekal will “bring downthe hammer”…” She made hand signals to emphasize the last part of that sentence. 

"….on the department if there is no sacrifice. Analyzing who is responsible is awaste of time and resources…” ~Besides, I already know it’s my fault.~ “…andwill not change the outcome.”
