Mission: For Honor
Day: 4
Stardate: 2446.04.28

(Qo'nos - Ante Chamber - CO - Captain Sekal - 1438)

Sekal was monitoring the conversation as he formulated his own conclusions.

"Ambassador McKenzie, where did you meet Kim'tar? He seemed to be of your
mind, as if he was your kindred spirit. The Klingons will fight with
ferocious abandonment if we continue down this path. In fact, I believe it
was one of your Earth's philosophers, Sun Tzu, who wrote 'When you surround
an army, leave an outlet free.'" he paused. "The mention of the Romulan's
was not unexpected, and they fight with guile and cunning, which is no
match for the Klingons, who prefer the face to face fight. Is it possible
that they know more than we do about the Romulan situation? If they are
stronger than we believe, going to war with the Federation would give them
room to expand, but they must know that is futile."

He turned to the Captain, "Captain Sekal, as a neutral observer, what do
you make of the negotiations?"

The Vulcan stood to his feet and looked at each in turn. "The Klingons
cannot launch a full-scale war without preparation and while... as has been
observed they appear bent on it they can hardly be ready. It will take
time, perhaps weeks or months before they can pull enough assets from the
Romulan front to attack the Federation as most of their ships are in
conflict there."

He folded his arms. "The mission here cannot have caught them unawares and
they logically know that we are aware of the threat to them any overtures
to the Republic may cause and that we are attempting a diplomatic
settlement to head off any inflammatory results. In short they may be vying
for time."

He folded his arms behind his back and cupped his hands. "The longer this
drags on the more they hold the upper hand and they also logically believe
they might catch us unawares. This scenario has been played out many times
across our worlds as parties in negotiation have been struck without
warning. I believe Theodore Roosevelt on Earth coined the phrase, A day
that will live in infamy concerning the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor
during Earth's second world War. Shehan's rebellion that almost caused the
destruction of Vulcan among many others."

He took a few steps then returned to his chair. "I will send a report to
command on these concerns while this mission continues. If Dr. Mias is
correct this waiting game may swing either direction depending on unfolding
events."
