The girl was startled by Vermyx's announcement of his presence. She whirled
to face him and her eyes were wide open. Her facial expression seemed to
convey worry and guilt.

"Sweet goddess," she said under her breath.  "Who are you?" Then she noted
what he was wearing.  "Are you part of the crew?"

"Huh? Oh, the uniform," Vermyx said, tipping his hat. "Yeah, I'm a new
Engineering Officer."

"Ummm...what, exactly, did you see here?" she asked.

"Me? I ain't seen nuthin'. Relax, Toots. Y'r in the clear. 'S'like they
say: 'Security didn't see it, I didn't do it,' y'know? Anywho … since we're
both here, now, y'wanna help me look for my pet?"
