ILLUMINARRPG: (03–1445) Vermyx

Mission: Prelude

Stardate: 2446.03.25

(USS Illuminar - Deck 11 - Main Engineering  - Vermyx - 1445)

Vermyx entered Main Engineering looking for his pet lucidan, which had
escaped his quarters, when he spied a lone figure approaching the dilithium
chamber. He took up a position of cover, partly because he wasn't scheduled
to be there, partly because the woman he watched carefully probably wasn't
supposed to be there either.

~She could be an intruder…~ he thought. Nigh instinctively, the Iotian
reached for a weapon. Dano was accustomed to being armed, but he'd
surrendered the two weapons he'd had on his person when he reported aboard.
There were, of course, numerous other implements of pre-meditated
self-defense in Vermyx's quarters. But he'd left them there when he started
chasing after his pet. The intent was to retrieve the lucidan, not hunt it.

The woman, to Vermyx's eye, gave off a mixed vibe of "baby vamp" and "femme
fatale." Dano smiled with moderate appreciation. However, when the "baby
vamp" produced an access key and unlocked the chamber — a chamber clearly
marked with a warning sign: "Do Not Open This Chamber" — Vermyx's smile
broadened to a wide grin. ~Oh! We got a gen-u-ine bearcat here, don't we?"
One of Vermyx's Academy Instructors had emphasized, more than once: “Never
open the chamber that says, do not open this chamber.” ~Yeah, never saw the
logic in that. If you shouldn't ever open it, why make it openable? Just
seal it and leave off the sign, right?~

Apparently the woman didn't see the logic either. Vermyx liked that.

Wednesday pulled out the access drawer and slowly, tentatively, reached in.
She paused, then took out her PADD and seemed to scan her hand within the
access drawer.

~Alright, definitely not an intruder or some sort of saboteur,~ Vermyx
concluded. ~Dame's a li'l dizzy, maybe, but then … who ain't?~ Vermyx
approached from behind as the woman pushed the drawer back in and resealed
the chamber.

"Ahem," he cleared his throat. "'S'cuse me, you seen a lucidan around here?"
