Michael listened to Dyson explain his gift but he never really answered the question.
“I just see a violin that sounds terrific and needs to be played,” Dyson said.
Weston looked at him with a turn of his mouth, "Yeah, so why would he gift you such a valuable instrument to you? I mean, if its value is meaningless. I get that his family may not have seen its musical value, but surely there were others that he knew that would see both its physical value and its musical value?"
“What did you do before you put on the uniform?” Dyson asked.
~That was an interesting segue.~ He wondered if he should press the issue, but decided that he'd circle back to it later. Perhaps the question was prompted by his own questions. Weston, the spy had started to emerge.
He smiled, "To be honest, the uniform is a recent addition. However, I've been in Starfleet for quite a while." When you're a spy, it's not usually a good idea to advertise that you were a spy. Those types of statements oftentimes come back to haunt you. However, since it was common knowledge on the Illuminar of some of his past he decided he could be a little forthcoming. "However, I was an SFI operative."
“I was a civilian pilot until a couple of weeks back," Dyson admitted. "I flew shuttles, freighters, and even a couple of alien ships. I haven’t gotten around to it, but I need to bug HR about my official list of assignments. Because it is far from complete. Just in case you look at my file later.”
~Ahh, and there it is. Clearly, he knew who he was talking to and was simply fishing around for a way to protect himself. He figured I investigate everyone... which might become one of my new duties.~
This "official capacity" thing was so new to him. "And you are worried that if your record shows something that is not the truth you might be in jeopardy?"
“Not that I was ever assigned some place super important," Dyson replied, "but I was kind of miffed that Intelligence never bothered to debrief me.”
"Debrief you?" Michael said, surprised. "Why would SFI debrief you? That would be the job of Security. What would you need to be debriefed about?"
(reply Dyson)
"And why would your information be incorrect," Michael asked. "They get that information from you. Unless you intentionally mislead them?"
(reply Dyson)
