Mission: Prelude
Day: 3
Stardate: 2446.03.25
(USS Illuminar - Deck 9 - Aerowing Shuttle Dock - CO, Captain Sekal - 1330)
He stepped through the pressurized door with kit in hand and stopped to
look at the vessel, its ventral surface molded itself into the deck and it
would detach and drop from the ship for launch. Sekal had not heretofore
been inside of his "yacht" but had critically inspected it from the
exterior on a number of occasions. He had also "flown" it but only in
holodeck simulations. It had been over a year since he had piloted a
shuttle and he had given up the right to fly himself to Earth in deference
to the FSXO.
Did he want to fly it? Yes he did but that would come later, for now he
would allow the pilot to do so as agreed.
He walked about the sleek craft for a moment that was a bridge between a
shuttle and a ship, a small bridge perhaps but a bridge nonetheless. It
held up to sixteen flight crew and passengers, was almost 25 meters long
and nearly 30 wingtip to wingtip. It's hull was pristine as always since it
rarely left the ship and he saw the shadow of the pilot in the front window.
Retracing his steps back to the entrance he checked to see the door had
cycled then stepped onto the ramp and through the hatchway.
"Afternoon Captain, ready for an easy ride to Earth?"
"Affirmative Lieutenant Corday."
"So what's on today's agenda?"
Sekal ducked his head into the cabin. "Taking up temporary quarters in
preparation for a debriefing tomorrow."
"What's your estimated completion time, sir?"
"That is uncertain, several days by my estimation as a briefing will follow
and multiple rounds of meetings. I have made arrangements for your lodging
in the interim. Once I have a timetable for our return I will forward it to
you."
He looked over the readouts and nodded his head, Edmund Hilary was ready to
leave. "You may depart when ready."
(Reply: Corday)
Sekal turned and took the seat closest to the pilot cabin then buckled
himself in as the low resonance pitch of the engine grew, not a whine or
roar and at the lower bandwidth for even his keen hearing and the hatchway
retracted and sealed. There was little sense of movement due to the
inertial dampeners as it dropped away from the ship and they were on their
way.
(Reply: Corday)
