ILLUMINARRPG: (4-0900)- CO, Captain Sekal and Dr. Riven Mias

(Earth — San Francisco — StarFleet Headquarters — Conference Room -- CO,
Captain Sekal and Dr. Riven Mias — 0900)

This "conference room" could be more accurately described as an auditorium
with seating for 125. A number of Fleet departments were represented
including tactical, security, the diplomatic corps and even a small knot of
intelligence dressed in slate grey. Science was also in attendance for
reasons which would soon become apparent. Dr. Mias had been summoned for
the occasion and had chosen to sit with the CO in the front. This briefing
was fleet wide but was aimed at the Illuminar after all.

The dais at the front was raised several feet from the surface so that the
ascending rows of seats could see the speaker easily and the wall behind
was essentially an immense wall screen.

Riven was at ease with a seat between the two and the auditorium was
slightly over half full. The Betazoid was smiling as he leaned over.
"Qo'nos you said?"

"Affirmative."

"Exciting." Many of the charms in his long, white, braided hair chimed
against one another as he shifted and leaned back, he was in a dark blue
robe today fringed with silver at the hem, collar and cuffs. Riven's pupils
were deep pools of brown so dark they bordered on black, a trait of his
race and the strongest of telepaths. Michaella wasn't with him today
unfortunately, she had declined on the grounds it was not expected to be a
medical mission.

"How has the bond with Temas and Luma been proceeding?"

Riven gave the Captain a look of surprise, their voices were little above a
whisper as they waited for the meeting to begin.

"You haven't spoken with Luma?"

"No. I wanted to give them time to become comfortable with the bond once
again before intruding."

Riven nodded. "Very wise. The transfer was seamless and I have no
expectation of issues. They were meant for one another in a way." His smile
returned. "Luma hasn't been chatty lately but expect that to change soon."
He accentuated that with a chuckle which was cut short as a Commodore in
the sciences division mounted the platform. "I expected Admiral Salek to be
here."

"He is quite busy at the moment." Sekal had spotted Admiral Haynes nearby
in a knot with a flame-haired Betazoid female.

Riven got a big grin as he followed his eyes. "Admiral Vanyssa Winters,
never thought I'd see the day. I won't disturb her, it looks like she is
extremely busy."

The Admiral in question was in a whispered conversation with Jack.

"If I might have your attention."

All conversation died as every eye turned toward the podium.

"I am Commodore Witsy of Star Fleet Sciences and while I believe there are
others more qualified to make this presentation it is my honor. Let's get
down to business shall we?"

He half-turned toward the rear wall. "Screen on."

A highly detailed star map of the Alpha and Beta quadrants came alive
behind him with bright areas of blue, green and red.

"First let's touch on a bit of history. This was the Federation, Klingon
Empire and Romulan Star Empire before the cataclysm. Between them
controlling over seventy percent of the Alpha quadrant and extending well
into the Beta at twenty three percent. And now the present " The star map
changed.

"The destruction of the homeworld of Romulus and that of the Remans left a
large number of worlds, some of them colonies which having lost their
infrastructure collapsed. Many had rebuilt to a point until the invasion by
the Klingon Empire and some had unified. The largest and most powerful
being that of the Romulan Republic, more on that in a bit. Of those closest
to the Klingon Empire Many have already been absorbed by them or more
succinctly conquered. Hundreds of thousands of Romulan and Reman refugees
were evacuated ahead of the Klingon advance into Federation space. Romulan
free space then at this time covers about 766 parsecs, the Romulan Republic
occupies approximately 200 parsecs of that expanse. And now for the
briefing on the Romulan Republic, for that I give you Minister Sybal."
