(USS Illuminar — Deck 1 — Ready Room — CO, Captain Sekal — 1256)

."Well, since y'asked, I wouldn't say 'invitation' is precisely the right
word there. Sir. More like 'press-ganged.' 'Shanghaied, 'f'ya know what I
mean. See, it's like this: I owe a certain Ferengi 'Demon' a lot of in back
vigorish. There were … some misunderstanding, and about a dozen Fleeter
Marshals got involved. Any-who, LONG story short, it was the Academy or
retire some place nice — like Rura Pente, you dig?"

Sekal closed his eyes then opened them, much of what the Ensign had said
had been gibberish to him but by putting together clear terms he got the
'gist' of what was being spoken.

"Your metaphorical colloquialisms can be quite opaque Mr. Vermyx however I
'dig' what you are saying."

The Fleet had been very busy in the two years since the class that had sent
out the command crews of the Illuminar and Exeter. On this ship he himself
had taken one crewman from incarceration, recruited an old but still able
veteran in Lieutenant Bohb and two including Ensign Vermyx had been given
similar options, imprisonment or service.

His attention was drawn to the time.

"Thank you Ensign, Lieutenant Bohb is Chief of Engineering and you are to
report to him after you have secured your cabin. I will notify him to
expect you."

(Reply: Vermyx)

"One other thing. You will present your weapon to Lieutenant Commander
T'Mur who is Chief of Security and she will see to its authorization ... or
storage. If you retain the weapon you are not to take it outside of your
cabin unless given authorization. Dismissed Ensign."

(Reply: Vermyx)

Sekal nodded and watched him leave, activating the comm as the door closed.

"Lieutenant Bohb an Ensign Vermyx has reported in and will be reporting to
you for duty. I expect you may have issues with his vernacular."

(Reply: Bohb)

That being done he sent out another comm.

"Lieutenant Grey Wolf have the Edmund Hillary prepped for transit to Earth,
I may need it available for several days."

=^= Understood sir, I'll assign Lieutenant Corday to be your pilot.=^=

He almost argued the point as he had not yet had an opportunity to fly it
but acquiesced. "Very well, departure time of 1330."

He signed off, the perks of being a CO were sometimes outweighed by its
limitations.
