Mission:  Prelude
Day: 1
Stardate:  2446.03.23

NRPG: At first, I thought there wasn’t enough to work with, but then I saw a chance for some of Alex backstory. RPG:

(USS Illuminar - Deck 11, Rec Room – ACONN Alexander Dyson – 1613)

One moment, Alex was going at it with one of the Bravo schmucks and the next a security officer threw his opponent away. ~Yikes, she’s got some muscles.~ As he collected himself, the officer – loudly – declared that the fight was over. ~Oh, great, more trouble with the lieutenant, that’s just what I need.~

At least this time, the blame could be spread all around. Taking a couple of deep breaths, he grabbed a chair and put it back in the proper position, before sitting down. As he waited for the lieutenant to arrive, his mind went to the last time he had not been able to win a fight because somebody had interrupted it.

(Mars, Santa Maria Orphanage – Corridor – 1417)

After Alex and Emile had beaten William Zander and his gang in a fistfight, his place as orphanage bully had been taken by George McHale. George had been bothering Dennis Rodriguez. Rodriguez was one of several newcomers this year, which meant that he was a target for McHale. Alex had pulled McHale off Rodriguez. This had been followed by a punch to the face, which had begun the fight.

McHale thought he was a good fighter, but Alex was disproving him of that notion. He had just landed another punch when he and Dennis were pulled apart. Dennis was pulled away by Henry McDonald, the orphanage cook and the cooking class teacher. Alex was in the grip of Rabbi Simon Cantor.

Cantor took Alex to The 47 and set him down on a chair. Then he grabbed a chair and sat down across from Alex. If it had been anybody else, Alex would have bolted from the room to find McHale and finish the fight. But this was “Rabbi Simon”. And when he gave you ‘that look’, you just sat and waited for him to speak.

“So, yingele, you want to tell me about it ?” His voice was calm and soft, but filled with authority.

“Not really.” Alex said, giving Rabbi Simon an honest answer. ~You never lie to Rabbi Simon.~

“Tell me anyway, yingele.”

Alex sighed and began explaining it all…

(USS Illuminar - Deck 11, Rec Room – ACONN Alexander Dyson – 1614)

Alex smiled at the memory. Emile had been his only friend amongst the children, while Rabbi Simon had been the only member of the orphanage staff he had put in the friend group. There was also Henry McDonald. The physical education teacher had not been a friend. But if you needed some honest advice, you went to Mister McDonald.

He also had friends all over Utopia Colony. So when you wanted to surprise somebody with a present – like Alex getting Emile a book he had wanted for ages – or do somebody a favor, McDonald was your man. And every year, he organized a trip home, to Scotland. Alex and Emile had tried to go, but it was always filled in record time. His pondering was ended when the door to the rec room opened.
