(Mars Perimeter - Fighters – ACONN Alexander Dyson – 0955)
“It’s your call, boss. But I think you should take some work off Knight One’s hands,” He said, while already forming a plan to deal with the fighter chasing him in his head.
(Reply Corday)
Alas, Alex didn't get a chance to execute his plan. Because a second Mako appeared and hit him with a salvo of phaser fire. He cursed as his shields failed and the AI announced his status as 'dead'. ~Back to the barn it is. He turned his fighter to the Illuminar and fired the thrusters.
(USS Illuminar - Pilot's Ready Room - ACONN Alexander Dyson - 1002)
On his way back to the barn, Alex had evaluated his performance. And it had stunk. His skills with fighters were non-existent. Having come to that conclusion, he had reached the shuttlebay. As soon as Alex had parked Fighter One, the maintenance team had gotten to work on the craft. As they did their thing, Alex had gone to the Ready Room to wait for Raid and Snoopy. He had taken off his uniform jacket and kicked off his shoes.
The truth was that he needed to log a LOT of hours in holodeck and simulators to become a decent fighter pilot. ~And that takes time.~ Had he been posted somewhere else, he would have had that time. But this was a ship of the line. Which meant time was a luxury he did not have. This was sink or swim.
And he had sunk. He had already submitted a transfer request to Grey Wolf. ~Starbase 17.~ It was a tiny base in the middle of nowhere. A good place to drop off the brass' radar. That done, he recorded an audio message for Snoopy and Raid.
"Congratulations, you were right. Well, don't worry, you won't have to carry the idiot civilian anymore." He paused. "I've already submitted a transfer request to the Lieutenant, Bye." The message then continued with two excerpts from logs.
=^=What a strange little man. A civilian trained pilot? I wonder what Tempest sees in him?=^=
=^=I don’t know Snoopy, not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling from him. Maybe I’m wrong. Thinking that we run the Battle of Britain sim with him. See how he adopts to flying by the seat of your pants.=^=
=^=Sink or swim?=^=
=^=Sink, most definitely. Sink.=^= The PADD beeped and began playing excerpt number two.
=^=Two, thanks for the vote of confidence Raid. I count three of us. =^=
=^=Yea, you and me. Hotshot over there may fly shuttles, but he knows nothing of fighter tactics and is going to be a liability. He’s going to be in the way.=^=
Alex picked up his shoes and put his jacket over his arm. ~Time to go.~ He got up and walked out of the Ready Room, leaving the PADD with the audio message behind. He was headed for Holodeck One. It would take a while to process the paperwork and he intended to spend that time inside the cockpit of Mark-II Viper.
~No neural interface nonsense, no AI rubbish and no bloody G-force dampening. Hell, it barely has any computers.~ Just pure, three dimensional fighting. It would take his mind off the disaster that was his performance in the Void/Sphinx Mark III.
