Mission:  An Ending and A Beginning

Day: 1

Stardate:  2446.03.16

(USS Illuminar- Deck 5- Sick bay -Dr. Agnes Vanderstein, 2/O&COps CMDR
Dieter Gregory - 0830)

The body of Greory appeared on the bed in the ICU and the two medtechs,
Rizzo and Klinger came rushing into the room.  There was a bruise on his
forehead, his skin pale and clammy.

Aggie rushed over and pulled the nearby tricorder.  “Mr. Gregory, this
was not what I had in mine when I said I will see you around.”  Pulling
up the main screen, noting noting the levels,  “we need a beta blocker
to lower the levels of adrenaline.  Get me some Metoprolol.”  Aggie ordered.

“Mr. Gregory.”  Aggie said putting her hand on his face.  “Can you talk
to me?”  she feared that he could be slipping back into a coma.

Gregory’s eye’s opened, “And furthermore, Michael, you don’t get to make
that decision unilaterally,” he said then paused.  “Where are we?”

“You are back in sickbay, my dear.  Michael huh?  Sorry to disappoint.
Just Aggie here.”  Aggie said. “You need to lay still for me.”

“I am Doctor, but I need to get back to that meeting,” Gregory said
urgently.

“Not happening this time.”  Aggie said.  “Don’t make me restrain you,
today.  You are not up for that fun.”  Aggie gave Dieter a sly smile as
she administered the beta blocker.

Gregory groaned in frustration.  He knew that she was right, and after
Michaels last speech, he felt better about his first officer.  Funny to
think that now that he was back on the Illuminar.  His body started to
relax as the drug began to take effect.

His eyes started moving rapidly as his body began to twitch.

Gregory opened his eyes, and looked around.  He was in a garden, the
sound of a brook nearby.  Sitting up, he recognized it as a garden in
his hometown, the Upper Gardens.  Turning his head, he saw a small
bridge for crossing the stream.  He was wearing red robes of a Bajoran
vedek. Standing up, he saw a man and a woman walk by, both with a
shimmer around them.

They stopped in front of Gregory, “Now is the time of extra vigilance.
Look to the skies and see the portents.  The Celestial Temple needs a
new Emissary.  Protect the vessel of the prophets,” the women said.

The man pointed his finger at Gregory, “It is happening again,” he said.

Gregory’s eyes opened and he gasped for breath.  “What… why?” he said in
a confused voice.

“Why, What?”  Agnes was relieved that Dieter had once regained
consciousness.

“Must have been a dream,” he said, “A vivid dream.  I was in a garden
near my home on Earth.  Doesn’t matter,” he said. “I am very thirsty,
can I get a drink please, or is that against doctors orders?”

Agnes nodded to the nurse.  “I have something coming to you.  However I
am not letting you out of my arms length.

Gregory smiled, “Well that could be interesting,” he said. “I know a
place where the music is hot and the drinks are cold.  We can dance all
night long, and I’ll stay closer than arms length.”

“It’s a date, and I am going to hold you to that.  But unless the
dancing is horizontal you are not getting out of this bed.”  Anges then
put a finger over his mouth.  “No protesting allowed.”

“Horizontal dancing. I know those steps,” he said “We can start now, if
you want.”

Aggie laughed on how this conversation was going, but it was helping as
Dieter was stablizing.  “Are you kidding me? I am not sure you are
completely up for that dance.  I got moves you’ve never seen.”  Aggie
leaned in and whispered in Dieter’s ear.  “Is you heart healthy enought
for that right now?”

“You’re the doctor, why don’t you come close and listen,” he said playfully

Aggie moved her head so she was now their noses were a hairs distance
from each other.  She looked him from the eyes and said, “I think…”

Kyllee raced into Sickbay to see Agnes and Dieter in a very precarious
position. He slowed to a walk and entered the ICU. He took a deep breath
and cleared his throat.

“I see that you take the intensive of Intensive Care. to a whole other
level,” he said. “Would you care to report on Commander Gregory’s
status, Doctor?”

“You  know Doctor, it is the extra care that makes the difference.”
Aggie replied, “Now, as for Mr. Gregory here, His levels are
stablizing.  He,”  Aggie lightly patted Dieter not realizing that she
patted his lower abdomen lightly, “seems to be awake, alert, and full on
flirt mode.  Nothing I could not handle.  I have to admit,”  Aggie then
looked around, “I take it you are here to dismis me?”

“I seriously doubt he would appreciate the same care from me that he’s
receiving from you, but yes, I’ll take it from here,” Stev smiled. It
was clear that the two of them had very different styles. Stev
appreciated a separation of his personal and professional life. And
since everyone on the Illuminar was a potential patient they were all
off limits.

“That may be so, but in times of distress, a cold distant doctor is now
needed.  Remember, the personal touch can make the different.”  Agnes
turned to Dieter, “Once you are ready for that vertical dance, come find
me.  See ya, cutie.”  Agnes turned on her heals and left not only the
ICU but also sickbay.

When Agnes left Stev gave his full attention to Dieter. It was the first
chance he’d had since he came back to the land of the living.

“I see the Dieter charm has been undamaged by your experience,” he said
as he pulled out a tricorder and began to scan his old CO.

“It is rusty, so tell me doctor, what is my prognosis?” Dieter asked.

Stev compared the results of his scan to one’s from the bio bed and
humphed.  “We’ll, there’s still some residual neurological damage that
we’ll need to take care of, but I think you might just make it, if you
can keep your pecker in your pants long enough.”
