(USS Illuminar- Deck 1- COps Office - 2/O&COps  CMDR Dieter Gregory - 0900)

"Yes Sir," Chief Ywan said as she checked off another item on her to do 
list. "You look tired, Sir.  You might want to take a break, not push 
yourself so hard.  The doctors said light duty."

Gregory chuckled, "I'm sitting in my chair , reading report.  How much 
more light duty can it get?" he replied.

"I am just reminding you what the doctors said," Ywan replied.

"Noted and logged, Chief.  Now onto more business.  Seems that Ensign 
Scott Matrix has been assigned to Operations?" Gregory said.

"Correct, Sir.  He was in engineering, but took a leave of absence," 
Ywan replied.

Gregory scratched his head, "That is odd, as I recall an Ensign Matrix 
on the Rhyne, but he had suffered an accident in engineering.  But I can 
find no record of that, other than my memory."

"Well, Sir, he is here now, and in our department."

"Yes Chief, let's get him in here." Gregory repllied.

Ywan nodded and tapped her comm badge, "Ensign Matrix, report to the 
chief of operations office."

(Matrix, IYW)

"Now we wait," he said, pushing back in his chair, looking at his screen 
again.

The door chime rang.

"Enter," Gregory called.

(Matrix)

"Have a seat Ensign.  Welcome to operations.  I am Commander Dieter 
Gregory, head of operations, and this is my right hand, Chief Christina 
Ywan."  Would you like a coffee or tea?" he asked as he stood up, 
leaning on his cane.

The female chief jumped up, "Sit down, Sir.  Or I will have to tell the 
doctors."

Gregory sighed, and sat down.  "Tea for me please and thank you Chief Ywan"

He turned his attention back to Matrix.  "So, Mr. Matrix, I read in your 
file you were in Engineering.  What made you come to Operations?"

(Matrix)

Gregory nodded while listening to his story. "So you understand the role 
that Operations plays on a Starship?"

(Matrix)

"Yes, and we do interface with Engineering on a regular basis.  We try 
to prioritize maintenance and repairs based on the operational needs of 
the ship.  Of course our carefully planned schedule usually goes out the 
door with the Chief Engineer looks at it.  As a member of my department, 
you have to stand firm when others try to weasel things out of you. For 
now, I'm going to have you stand beta shift with Ensign Morganthall.  
She's just been promoted to beta shift, and this will be a good 
opportunity to train you and let her spread her wings," Gregory said.

He sipped his tea, watching the man.  "OK, any questions?"
