Mission: An End and a Beginning
Day: 2
Stardate: 2446.03.17
(USS Illuminar - Simulators - Pilot Ensign (sg) Vic ‘Raid Montero and
Lt. Arthur ‘Snoopy’ Corday - 0820)
The Illuminar had landed. It was odd to see the ship on the ground, but
Vic didn’t have time to dwell on that. He wasn’t one to kiss the
ground, rather preferring to touch the sky.
“Taking up station,” Raid called as he moved his ship into a lazy figure
8 centered on the ship.
“Scanners are clear,” Gunsmoke said as she watched the screens.
“Keep your eyes peeled,” Arthur said. “The enemy ships can hide from
our sensor readings. Look for random energy signatures.”
The problem with flying protection like this was that it could dull the
senses. “Raid, I’m getting a return,” Gunsmoke called. “247 by 120.
Estimate 500 kilometers away. Counting 4 incoming.”
Raid triggered his Com “Knight two to knight lead, we have 4 incoming.
Can you confirm?”
“Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to take this opportunity
to apologize for the havoc we’re about to reap upon you. The Illuminar
is at its most vulnerable right now, so watch your six. These ships are
fast and difficult to target.”
“Rodger that Knight lead,” Raid said.
“I’ve got a visual,” Gunsmoke said. On the screen, Raid looked
perplexed, “Identify?” he asked.
“Not in the database,” Gunsmoke replied.
The ship was of no known construction he’d ever seen. There were two
vertical flat hexagonal, wings for lack of better description which were
connected to a central sphere. There was a large window in the front.
“Magnify that window,” Raid said.
Bebe ran her fingers over the panel. The window came into detail.
There was a solitary figure in the sphere. A black uniform with a jet
black helmet. “They have
“Permission to engage?” Raid called.
“Stay with your wingman,” Arthur called out. “Work together.
Permission to engage granted.”
“Copy that,” Montero said. “Plotting intercept course,” he said to
Gunsmoke, “Charge weapons.”
Montero increased speed and changed vector to intercept the fighters. He
watched as Gunsmoke fell into formation on his wing. He still didn’t
fully trust the neural interface.
“Kight one is Tally, four bandits 10 o’clock high,” Montero called as
he flipped his fighter to change direction.
=^=Knight two is on your six, low left =^= Gunsmoke called.
The four strange craft broke off into two pairs. One pair climbing
while the other turned towards Montero and Sheridan.
“Knight one to knight actual, be advised two fo the bandits have broken
off, we are engaging the other two.”
“Lets get this over quick Knight two,” Montero said as the two teams
closed fast at each other.
