Mission: Death in the Shadows
Day: 9
Stardate: 2446.02.09

(USS Illuminar -- Ready Room -- CO -- Captain Sekal and SPC Luma'lenai-
1520)

A rather unhappy Luma chimed for entrance into the ready room, one of those
places aboard the ship that she was not supposed to enter without
permission.

=^= Our Sekal is busy?=^= She asked, not waiting to be invited into the
ready room, just entering since she had chimed for permission and she
didn’t ‘feel’ anyone else in the room. =^= Our Sekal can speak with Luma?
=^=

Sekal raised his head at the desk. He had been going over reports from the
Kang and end of operation transcripts from the boarding of the vessel. The
cloaking device was due to be transferred at any time and he needed to
speak with one of his engineers. When it rained it poured.

"Yes Luma, what did you wish to speak to me about?"

=^= Place hand against the skin and Luma can transfer the conversation to
her Sekal. Please.=^= The overly emotional Lenai was obviously unhappy and
it could be heard in her voice.

An eyebrow quirked as he placed his hand against the mechanism for the
holographic interface on the desk. Thus touching energized electronic
components he could interface directly with the Lenai. ::Continue.::

The entire conversation transferred between the two very swiftly, Luma
giving him the audio she recalled from her argument with Lee. ::He said
Luma is a traitor! That Our Father Saleke would be disappointed in Luma!::
She wailed the words, especially the part about Saleke being unhappy with
her. She truly believed that Saleke could do no wrong, and knew most
everything. He was after all a ‘Father’.

Had he been human he would no doubt have sighed. ::Luma it is quite obvious
judging from your conversation that Lieutenant Lee misunderstood your
inference. And he did not call you a traitor but was saying that
interference in destroying the ship under the conditions he noted would be
judged to be a traitorous act. There is something you should know about the
rest of the beings aboard this ship.::

Luma listened, ::What should Luma know? This was MUCH easier when Luma’s
Vex was present. Luma could just imprison the misbehaving small ones and
let Vex deal with it. But Luma listened to her Vex’s rules and her Vex said
that at a time of crises that Luma was not to imprison the small ones, in
spite of their lack of acceptable good manners.:: Yeah, the Lenai was
pissed and it was likely Lee was going to wake up in the time-out shuttle
at some point. Perhaps when he went to bed. And due to the meld Sekal would
know this.

::Luma, unlike myself, Vex and my father the others do not understand you.
Not being bonded to you they cannot know you as we do. And Lieutenant Lee
despite the miscommunication is attempting to speak with and understand
you. Do you remember Admiral Remae? I know that you do. ::

::Yes.:: Luma’s grumpiness faded as she recalled the Commodore. ::Luma
eventually liked the Remae. It just took a bit.:: She almost sent a smile
through the link, but her mood had improved.

"Then you remember that he once asked you if on his order you would destroy
the Mystique and was quite emphatic on that point. A point that you argued
with him at some length on as I recall." He had changed from mental speech
back to verbal. "And at that time we had only theories on how we would
remove you from the ship."

She switched to verbal, =^= Yes, but we fixed that. And the Remae is a
Leader among the small Starfleet ones. The Illuminar was designed to
handle the structural stresses with microjumps in a way the Mystique was
not. =^= She grumbled. =^= Luma would rather jump the small ones to a safe
time and place. Luma understands that there might be a time where this is
not safe, so that is why we decided the Trei and the Montero would flee
with Luma if necessary. It would cause Luma’s heart to break to see the
beloved small ones pass into entropy. =^=

The Vulcan cupped his hands on the desktop. "It is true that the Commodore
is in command as am I yet the question has not changed from that time. The
Commodore then did not understand just as Lieutenant Lee does not
understand now and your conversation was inconclusive and not understood.
To the mind of one who does not know you the question is cut and dried.
Only one such as myself may see the nuances." He loosened his hands and
settled back into the chair. "Should the necessity ever arise you would be
removed from the ship, I will not sacrifice you unnecessarily and I will
set the ship to self destruct. That is part of his misunderstanding. Before
it came to that point we would consider other possibilities. But as Admiral
at the time Remae brought up a commanding officer must always consider the
possibility and to bring it up is not wrong. In the same way the head of my
security department must know what might happen should the occasion arise.
The intimation of traitorous conduct was made based on incomplete
information. You must understand that the crew is reaching out in an
attempt to familiarize themselves with you and in doing so they will make
mistakes. That we have kept your existence secret makes it an unfortunate
yet logical outcome."

=^= Luma’s Sekal would prefer if Luma did not punish that Lee for his
rudeness? Luma is not sure that liking that Lee is required to work with
that Lee. =^= Luma had hierarchies to her people. Our, My, the and finally
That for those few that she did not like. =^= Luma will consider what her
Sekal has said. Perhaps it would help if the Trei was familiarized with the
process. It would be best if that Lee was included in the exercise? Luma’s
Bohb believes there might be a prototype to handle the harmonic variances
that caused the cracking of the Aneulrian Crystal?=^= The affection in
Bohb’s name was evident.

"What you consider rudeness at this time Luma is a lack of understanding
and to punish someone for a misunderstanding will eventually lead you not
to just punishing but alienating the entire crew. This is the logical end
point of your question and I can not run a ship efficiently in which you
have made enemies of the majority of those aboard. I will not demand you be
friends with all but you must be able to have a working relationship with
them. If Ensign Bohb is able to resolve the issues with the crystal we are
using to move you I find that to be gratifying. The duties of command make
it impossible to dedicate the time for research it would take me to find
such answers."

=^= Does Luma’s Sekal regret not being able to do research? Luma could
always jump the ship backwards for a few hours to give Our Sekal more time
in the day? =^= Luma was trying to be helpful with the suggestion. =^= Most
of the crew do not realize what happened. =^=

"No. There is a price to be paid for meddling with the timeline. You above
all are aware of this."

=^= Luma knows the Starfleets rules, yes.=^= The tone said she didn’t think
they were all that important. =^= Will Luma’s Vex be returning soon? =^=
The plaintive desire was there. After a moment, Luma refocused her
attention on Sekal. =^= The microjump was -fun- =^= She emphasized.

"I should have the answer soon." He replied simply.

=^= Our Sienna is not an ideal bondmate. If Sienna’s T’Mur had been
available, the T’Mur would have been a better choice. The Alaya was
occupied. The Celiste and The Sky are not good choices, either. Those two
are too much like their Mother. =^= Luma still felt badly about damaging
Vanyssa Winters’ telepathic abilities.

"If Lieutenant Jordaan is unavailable we will find another long term
bondmate. You have my word."

=^= Will there be more battles in the near future? Luma does not like
battles. Luma likes it much better when we help more small ones like with
the generational ship. Luma would like to return to them. Is the Riven
there? =^= Luma’s voice made it very clear that Riven was a perfectly
acceptable bondmate prospect.

"Riven is currently on Betazed I believe and I cannot promise there will be
no more battles but I intend to be available should they occur."

=^= Can the skin go to Betazoid then? =^= Luma asked hopefully. She was
done with the important business and the conversation was winding down.

"Unknown. We will know more if this mission is concluded successfully."

A pause, then adorably Luma tried out the phrase she had heard others use,
=^= Luma may be dismissed, our Sekal? =^= She was tickled by getting her
usage of the phrase correct.

He nodded. "Dismissed." Now that the conversation was concluded he had
other things to get to. Work it seemed had piled up during his short
absence.
