Mission: Death in the Shadows

Day: 9

Stardate: 2446.02.09

(USS Illuminar - Deck 14 – Security Office – Chief of Security Lt jn Keung
Lee & SPC Luma’lenai – 1404)

“Luma. If this ship gets boarded, are you in a position to help to repel
them?” called out Lee.

Luma had spent the last hour fretting, grumbling because someone had known
that the best way to shut her own was to steal her bondmate. And she did
not approve. But Lee was talking to her, and she was not needed to fly
right this second to avoid the bad hell-missiles as Sienna had dubbed them.

=^= Luma can assist. Luma can beam the bad small ones into the space. Or
the brig. But she will not move them to her time out shuttle. Luma can not
assist if the connections to the ship are severed as they were when one of
those hell-missiles impacted and took out the aft side. Some rerouting can
be done, but if the impacts are in the wrong location, Luma can lose access
to those ship systems, like she lost access to her eyes and ears in that
area as well as access to skin’s legs. =^= Luma spoke frankly, Lee had a
high enough clearance that he should know her limitations.

Lee listened carefully to what Luma was saying and was impressed with the
fact that Luma can beam the invaders off into space although putting them
into the brig would probably be a bit crowded!! Luma was limited if the
systems in the ships went down.

“So Luma. What other defensive measures can you put into place to
destabilize the boarders?” said Lee.

=^= If none of our small ones are in the area, Luma can trigger the
sleeping gases, but only if those connections have not been hurt. Our
Sienna has given standing orders to the Trei that if the ship is to be
captured, the Trei is to take Luma in a crystal with the Montero and fly
quickly towards the Mars Base. Our Sienna says that Luma is not allowed to
be captured and it would be best if the ship is captured for it to be
rendered inoperable, which it would be without Luma since the Illuminar was
designed to interface best with Luma. =^=

“Well, Luma you be seem to be invaluable to the defence of this ship”
smiled Lee. “I’ve just signed you up to be part of my boarding defence
strategy. I probably need you as back up. Are you prepared to come under
my orders?”

=^= Luma is not allowed to follow the orders of the small ones without
thought like they are supposed to. But if Luma agrees with the Lee’s words,
Luma will obey. Especially if it is not contrary to what Our Sienna asks.
=^=

“What would happen if you were captured?. Can you defend yourself?”

=^= If the skin was captured? Or if the bad small ones figure out how to
separate Luma from the skin? =^=

Lee thought the skin was the ship. “I see. It is imperative that the
illuminar does not fall to the enemy. Are you able to take extreme
measures..to destroy the ship without being emotionally distracted?”

An indignant squawk can be heard before the very offended voice speaks, =^=
NO. Luma will not terminate the existence of her small ones. Luma is the
last of her species and to deliberately embrace entropy is not
understandable by Luma. There are measures that Luma could take, rules that
Luma was informed not to break.=^= She growled. =^= Luma’s Father is out
there commanding the Hades! =^= Luma declared.

“There are ways that the..er..small ones..will not be terminated. We do
have escape pods onboard as well as shuttles. We can even adapt the
transporters to materialise elsewhere.” explained Lee. “You have to
understand that much of the systems on this ship including the
infrastructure of the ship is a security risk to Stafleet if it falls to
the enemy. Luma’s father fully understands the risks of the enemy knowing
Starfleet’s secrets. I remember a comment made by the legendary Ambassador
Spock who said ‘the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few, or
the one.’ Think about that one.”

=^= Luma does not know of this Ambassador Spock small one.=^= The ship
still was not happy with Lee. =^= If the skin is in danger, Luma
can...disobey the rules...briefly. But Luma can not embrace entropy or
allow her small ones to do so. Luma would rather be in trouble with her
Father than allow one of the small ones to go away.=^=

~How on earth can I convince Luma~, thought Lee who was getting rather
frustrated at Luma. What did she mean that she would allow her small ones
to do so?

Lee breathed slowly to avoid being angry. Luma does not own the ship.
“Explain what you meant by not allowing the small ones to take action. Am
I assuming if the command was to destroy the ship, you would stop the
process.” He raised his voice a notch to see what reaction Luma would give.
“You would physically stop us? What right have you got to do this...er..as
for the father getting upset with you if we left in a dangerous position.
Well, I tell you this..the father would be more than upset if you stopped
the crew from destroying or getting off this ship. This ship and all its
valuable data must..NEVER..NEVER fall into enemy hands. You realised the
implication of this to you in the eyes of others...a traitor. Infact what
if you were captured by the enemy...think of what they will do to you.”

Luma’s voice rose in reaction, angry and emotional, =^= Why is that Lee
acting this way? Why does that Lee argue with Luma stupidly? Luma will NOT
allow her small ones to be hurt. Luma has… how does Our Saleke put it,
Tricks. Luma has the ability to get her small ones to safety! If the ship
is to be destroyed, Luma is to be taken in the crystal by the Trei and the
Montero in their shuttle back to Mars. Luma UNDERSTANDS her job but that
Lee obviously does not. This conversation is done. After our Sekal returns,
if that Lee wants to discuss Luma with our Sekal then that can be
arranged,=^= Luma paused for a moment then muttered, loud enough for Lee
to hear, =^= That Lee is lucky that it is a time of crises. Otherwise Luma
would imprison that Lee in the time-out shuttle and allow him to stew on
learning better manners.=^= And with that the sense that even the
nontelepaths had of Luma being present faded.

~Well..that’s put me in my place~, admitted Lee. After all that, Lee was
now convinced that Luma had the interest of the crew. He was assured that
Luma would not act recklessly if anything untoward happened to the ship and
her crew. She had actually a contingency plan to get the crew to safety
and the fact she will not be allowed to be captured. ~Wow! She’s one
sensitive being who doesn't like to be criticised~. Lee decided there was
no point in discussing this with the Captain. Let sleeping dogs lie. At
least we have the ultimate defence weapon in Luma.
