Mission: Death in the Shadows
Day: 9
Stardate: 2446.02.09
(USS Illuminar - Deck 11 Main Engineering - Ensign jg Tycho Alantar - 1333)
Several officers used the Engineering office for a variety of
functions, since the current aCEO didn't seem to much care for
it.Tycho had gone in there to review Cadet logs and shifts, it was
convenient and made sure he wasn't away from the action if he was
needed.
As soon as the shields went up, an alert brought him out of the room
as the aforementioned bright-eyed greenhorns looked to him for orders,
"Regular crew, to your duty stations, Cadet crew, find a secondary
station and follow along;" by which he meant pay attention and shadow
your nearest regular crew on the secondary monitors. It generally kept
them from making things worse in a crisis.
As they found themselves places to be, he came behind them and helped
them bring up the current station they would be shadowing. Much like
the old combustion engine driving schools that had secondary driving
wheels and pedals, except here, the cadets were holding the secondary
wheel, so more like Maggie Simpson driving home from the grocery
store.
As Tycho was checking around the room, a scan beam had swept through.
All seemed accounted for except one missing Cadet, and not the usual
suspect for delinquency. He frowned, spun about scanning the area and
called, "Where is Cadet Surkal?"
(Sigma Draconis VI - Underground - Cadet Surkal - 1334)
The sparkles of the transport beam faded and Surkal felt his body
become weighted to the gravity of the locale. He seemed to be in a
bare room. There was little here but a slab for rest - he assumed -
and a doorway that hummed with jaundiced light. Logically, he was in
some sort of holding cell. It had much of the same feel as the brig
when he'd visited that locale for his study duties. Why a Cadet was
here rather than his assigned tuition post, he could not guess.
He could hear sounds scattering into his room from the hallway, and
could just make out what he posited could be others just as stumped by
his predicament as he, and so he measured his voice to carry properly
and called, "This is Cadet Surkal of Starfleet. I have been taken from
the USS Illuminar. Who is out there?"
