Mission: Death in the Shadows
Day: 7
Stardate:2446.02.07
(USS Illuminar-- Deck 13 — Warp Engine Core -- EO — Ensign Matrix — 1741)
It had been several days since Scott checked in on his algorithm, but his PADD kept tabs on its activity. He could glance at any PADD he signed in and see a discrete Star Fleet icon. If the icon was missing that meant the routine had either finished its work or had stopped for whatever reason.
Here on deck 13, he could work almost certainly without interruption and if someone happened to come into the WEC, he could claim he was catching up on some much-needed maintenance. The display panel was perpendicular to the entrance so no one could get a good look at whatever he was working on, another benefit of how the work area was arranged.
Scott settled in and logged into his PADD, then signed into the workstation, entered several commands, and waited for the computer to display the information. He took a moment to pull up the warp core status on the second display and instructed the computer to run a level 3 diagnostic. The second half of that display showed the workorders for the ship.
A few moments passed and the primary monitor showed the status of his clandestine routine. The algorithm displayed all the databases it had queried or cross referenced. Some in red, indicated it could not access either as a precautionary measure, it was in use, or level access was denied. The denied databases were cataloged for review at a later date.
As the information was revealed, Scott couldn’t help but get nervous at its initial findings. He wasn’t sure he should be seeing some of this information, but he was under orders. He spent the next half an hour reviewing the current information and marked the more interesting portions for the Captain’s review.
Scott selected each section he thought Sekal would find of interest. This would be his first batch of information to the Captain since he was instructed to investigate. Hopefully Sekal would find this useful. The message was encrypted with the key sequence Sekal provided Scott with the heading of “Star Fleet Mission Update.” That was a generic enough title they agreed upon that shouldn’t cause any undo scrutiny in case anyone else was looking in on normal ship communication.
Scott ended the session, but allowed the routine to continue, this time with a different SID reference. It would appear as a normal ship wide routine looking for power fluctuations. In fact, it was just another branch off the search parameters for information. The WEC interface synced up with Scott’s PADD and closed out the session.
~I’m hungry.~ thought Scott.
