NRPG: It's about to get exciting.
RPG:
Mission: Death in the Shadows
Day: 9
Stardate: 2446.02.09
(USS Illuminar - Deck 1 - Bridge - CO- Captain Sekal and SciO Skashe
Winters- 1314)
The sensor pallets and computer banks of this class of starship were on the
cutting edge of technology in the fleet but were being pushed to the limit
by the scans the Captain had ordered and the Astrometrics Lab had been
working frenetically for over three hours. Skashe had taken shifts in it
and was glad he wasn't there at this time. The brains of the guys manning
it were sure to be close to a meltdown. Now was not the time for it though,
things were getting interesting. Sigma Draconis VI was growing in the
viewscreen and they would be reaching orbit soon.
"Captain we are reading activity in the system at three points. Four energy
signatures have just appeared around the curve of planet number four, three
have lifted off from a glacial region in the northern hemisphere of our
target and two are entering the system."
"Isolate that location on the planet's surface Mr. Skashe." The CO
responded crisply. "And feed those targets to tactical." The yellow alert
began to flash as Sekal hit the control. "Operations replolarize the hull
and ready the EM pulse.
"Aye sir. Targets coming over."
(Reply: Tactical)
"Captain incoming transmission."
"On screen Mister Davis."
The screen came up showing an immaculate bridge with another Vulcan CO. He
was older but with flag rank bars rather than pips and easily sitting the
command chair as though he had been born to it. The familial resemblance
was also uncanny.
"Captain Sekal this is the USS Hades accompanied by the USS Tolliver.
Admiral Haynes requested backup and we were available. There are multiple
targets incoming to the system. It appears that you have, in the human
vernacular 'kicked over a hornets nest'.
Sekal stood to his feet. "Welcome Admiral Salek. Your arrival was
fortuitous. We have devised counter measures to the enemy missiles and are
forwarding that data to you now. Mister Winters send a coded burst to the
Hades and Tolliver with the hull polarization and navigational defector
adjustments."
Skashe was grinning from ear to ear as he began setting up the data for the
burst. "Aye sir, data ready and sending ... now."
Salek quirked an eyebrow. "Winters? Any relation to one of my compatriots?"
"That would be a yes sir." Skashe called out without turning his head.
Tactical now had priority for the data on the enemy combatants in the
system, he was isolating and scanning the area in an attempt to pin down
the location of the hypothesized installation. "Ion energy readings on the
planet are increasing and I've pinpointed the location the ships lifted off
from. Continuing scans."
Salek looked down as the data came in and ordered the modifications noted,
the same was no doubt happening on the Tolliver. "The Hades will engage
hostiles attempting to enter the system while the Tolliver assists you with
clearing out entrenched positions."
The screen split to show another bridge with a human Captain, he was sandy
haired, freshly shaven and sober looking. "Captain Jenkins of the Tolliver
here. Captain Sekal I would suggest you take those coming up from your
target while we intercept the ones enroute from planet four."
"Acknowledged. Your assistance is appreciated."
Captain Jenkins gave the orders as Tolliver and Hades split formation. The
Hades turned 180° to exit the system while Tolliver accelerated to
intercept the quartet of ships coming from farther within.
The viewscreen returned to the growing planet as Sekal hit the red alert
button and the klaxon began to sound. "All hands to battle stations.
Conflict is imminent."
"Tactical fire a full spread of torpedoes as soon as you have a clear
target. Lieutenant Grey Wolf course 243 mark 5. Lead them away from the
planet. We do not want to limit our movement capabilities."
"Aye, aye sir. Course 243 mark 5 ar full impulse."
