Mission: Death in the Shadows
Day: 7
Stardate:2446.02.07
(USS Illuminar -- CO's Quarters - CO- Captain Sekal - 22.36)
Being Luma's bondmate was nothing new to the Captain. He had taken on the
responsibility the day she had been discovered languishing on the USS
Mystique, seemingly a ghost ship that had been robbed of motive ability and
mothballed at Utopia Planitia space dock. The Lenai had demanded one in
order to plead her case before Admiral Remae Ktell and end her enforced
isolation. Despite the concerns of the subordinate officers in the science
department he had accepted knowing it was the only way to bridge the gap
between the Lenai and the Federation that had mistreated her.
And plead her case he had, going so far at to make the presentation before
the assembled officers and the Admiral that preceded their mission to the
Trill homeworld using the outdated Akira Class escort as their vehicle
since it was the only one that could be readied in time for the journey.
Admiral Remae had come aboard the Mystique in response and pledged
friendship and trust with Luma. A friendship and trust he had extended to
presenting the ship to her for her use after they had seen a successful
conclusion to their mission.
He had been roused from his quarters at night on the surface of Mars to
transport up with a security team in order to repel invaders that had
boarded her. He had brought her to the surface of Mars for a short time to
integrate her into the computers there. She had been met with suspicion,
perhaps hostility by many. But during that time he had learned something
about Luma that very few knew, despite her hostility and distrust at first
contact she had a deep reserve of caring and kindness, a boundless
reservoir of love for those she considered under her care and an almost
childlike naivete when it came to interacting with others. A bondmate was
both intercessor and teacher and was apt to be called upon at any time. He
had handed over those duties to one more suited but once a bondmate of Luma
there was no escaping those duties when required. His own father was aware
of this having also one been a temporary mind bondmate. The two shared an
unspoken understanding of that bond as well as a fondness for the Lenai
because once touched by her you were forever changed.
It did not inhibit logic or its application, it changed nothing
fundamentally about them but where she was concerned there was nothing more
important than seeing to her safety and well being. Salek had stepped away
from his commission partially because he had forcibly been separated from
her then had returned to the fleet in part to safeguard her.
And Sekal also in the presence of both had pledged himself to protect her.
He had designed the computer system of his ship to make full use of her
abilities and in doing so had made a skin that she appeared to prefer over
the older one that was constantly maintained for her use. When she called
he heard, where he could he allowed and when needed he was available.
He had been asleep for six hours when her voice came through the speakers
in his room.
=^= Our Sekal! You must go to the Prancing Pony and listen. Our Sienna is
making the sings soon and the new kitty is there and so are others. It
would be good for you to listen to our Sienna make sings - her music is
very good and relaxing and maybe Luma can make sings too? Our Sienna is
singing a song for her mate that she has been working on for most of the
last few days deep in her head where Our Sienna's T'Mur can not hear it. =^=
His eyes had snapped open quickly at the interruption. "Luma is my
participation necessary? The crew would perhaps find more enjoyment without
seeing the necessity of maintaining decorum before their commanding
officer."
(Reply: Luma)
He sat up. "There will be no use of my voice for your songs?"
(Reply: Luma)
He took a moment to consider. "While I find the concept illogical I will do
as you ask. Vulcans do not have the necessity for relaxation and enjoyment
that humans do. We find meditation and sleep to be preferable."
(Reply: Luma)
Seeing that she would not be dissuaded he rose from the bed and put on a
fresh uniform while he ignored her protests and suggestions for other
clothing. He was the Captain and outside of his quarters or the gym there
was decorum to be maintained.
(Reply: Luma)
