The gamma shift had settled into their regular patterns.  Science and 
Tactical were using the long-range scanners, in case there was a 
surprise waiting for them. Operations was  making lists of the minor 
repairs that needed to be completed, the little things that were triaged 
during the major repairs.  Sonic showers not working, environmental 
controls off and such.  The engineering team would have lots of boring 
work to complete over the next day.

"Ops.  What can you tell us about Sigma Draconis 6."

Operations officer Victoria Morganthall keyed in some commands, "Data 
coming up now sir," she said.

"Sigma Draconis 6 is a class M-planet in the Sigma Draconis system with 
one moon.  It is mostly covered with ice, although there is a small 
tropical zone that exists.  The planet is inhabited, but not part of the 
federation.  Looking in the history, there is a note that the USS 
Enterprise, under command of Captain Kirk, visited the planet in 2268. 
What Enterprise reported was two cultures, a more primitive one on the 
surface, and a highly advanced on located underground.  By the time she 
left, the two people were forced to work together.  There are some notes 
here as well that there have been about a dozen applications to Star 
Fleet from this planet."

Gregory nods, "Anything else Ensign?"

"Sir, the information indicates that there has never been a systematic 
survey of the ice covered parts of the planet, but it is speculated that 
there may be pockets of the pre-ice age civilization around."

"OK, so we know what we're going.  It doesn't sound like a tourist 
planet, that's for sure.  Helm what is our estimated time of arrival?"

Ensign Eileen Collins looked at the helm controls, "We will be 
approaching the Sigma Draconis system in 3 hours."

"Thank you."

"Sir, we are about a half hour out from Sigma Draconis," Ensign Collins 
called.

"Excellent.  Ms. Collins, Mr. Falcon, please begin a sensor scan of the 
planet.  Lets try to figure out what all the fuss is about."

"Aye sir," came the joint reply.

About 20 minutes later, Ensign Lily Collins, spoke up from the science 
station.  "Sir, we are reading a debris field orbiting around the 
planet.  It'll take some time to figure out details, but it appears to 
be relatively new."

"Any other vessels in the area?"

Falcon, in tactical, spoke up.  "No Sir.  Nothing is showing up on 
sensors."

"Very good, both of you keep working on this."

"Standard orbit Ms. Collins,"  Greogory said.  "Anything new from 
Science or Tactical?"

"Not at the moment sir."

"No sir."

Gregory pushed the comm button.  "Captain, sorry to wake you, but we 
have just entered orbit around Sigma Draconis 6.  We are beginning a 
detailed sensor scan of the planet.  We have also identified a debris 
field in orbit around the planet."
