Keung Lee scowled as he faced down his opponent.
Ensign Kolr Loceq snarled and tried to connect with a lightning-quick jab. Lee swayed back and his knuckles missed him by a fraction. He parried the follow-up stroke which almost threw Lee’s balance, as the Klingon advanced remorselessly on him. Lee ducked and twisted as he backed away, waiting for his is opening, avoiding a direct confrontation where his strength would be no match for the Klingon.
The Klingon was taller and stronger, but Lee had the better reflexes and manoeuvrability. Lee’s face was an mask of calm, and only those who knew where to look could see the concentration in his eyes. Then he saw his opening as Koir dropped his left flank for the briefest time. He darted forward, looking to get close and under his reach, scissoring his legs in a sweeping arc to throw Lee off his feet.
There was a gasp from the watching cadets.
It was therefore all the more surprising – Lee was not sure how, when he looked back on this later - he suddenly found herself airborne, before the gymnasium mat rushed upwards to meet his chin, culminating in crash. he tasted blood.
Kolr’s feint, Lee realized, had been deliberate. The Klingon had probably observed him long enough to predict his moves.
He hit the ground rolling, bouncing away from Koir’s follow-through. Lee twisted his body as he tried to kick out with his legs, using Lee hold on him as leverage, and he permitted himself a small smile as
Kolr fell backwards, caught off-balance. The Klingon crashed onto his back unceremoniously. He yelled as Lee punched hard with his fists into his lower back.
The cadets cheered and whooped
Kolr turned his head, staring at the intensity in Lee’s eyes that he was not finished.. Lee relaxed and offered a hand to the Klingon. “How are you feeling, ensign?
Kolr grunted as he got to his feet. "You fought well, sir."
"And you." Lee returned the compliment, before turning to the cadets. “Okay who would like to take on your instructor?”
