Mission: Space was cool before it mattered
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.04.25

(Mining Station - CMO Lt. SG Heinrich Kruze - 1507)

A gush of air forced its way out of the hatch as Ethan opened it. Heinrich knew it passed by but hardly felt a thing in his suit.

 "After you.” Ethan said.

“I'll take point... stay sharp,” Janice replied.

Heinrich nodded and entered the station. It seemed eerily abandoned. He turned his shoulder lights on after Janice did. He didn’t know he had any himself before he saw her turn hers on.

"Ok the issue is down this ventilation shaft.” Ethan said, "The miners should be down that corridor inside their containment room. Get to them and hang tight, don't let them leave until I vent the area.”

“Roger that, Take care,” Janice nodded and motioned to Heinrich to follow her in. Heinrich nodded and followed her silently as Ethan made his way down the ventilation shaft.

“So Doc – what condition are we expecting the miner here to be in?” Janice asked, trying to make small talk.

“It’s not looking good…” Is all Heinrich could manage.

“Understood,” she agreed, “Lets hope for the best.”

They made it to the end of the corridor and Janice began finagling with a panel on the wall. Heinrich was glad to have the chief operations officer along to deal with that because he knew that was above his pay grade. It didn’t take long before she got the panel to work. “There we go.”

She tied in her comms to the adjacent room. "Hello – Hello? Is anyone in there? This is Lieutenant Hammerfield USS Exeter – We are here to get you out!”

There was a moment of silence. Heinrich didn’t suspect there would be any response. His body jolted when a woman’s voice came through the com system, “Oh thank heavens someone picked up our distress signal! We must have been in here for days!”

“Its ok. Calm down. Whats your status? How many of you are there?” she continued for more information.

“There’s eight of us in here. We haven’t had anything to eat or drink, but otherwise… we’re fine. We think.” Heinrich couldn’t believe what he was hearing. It would be a miracle if that was all that was going on with them.

“Do you all have EV suits in there?”

“Just our standard issue mining suits.”

“Perfect – if any of you don’t have them on please put them on now. We will be venting the room to get you out. Stow everything in there we don’t want any more floating debris,” Janice motioned to Heinrich to come over to the comm so he could start checking up on them.

“This is Doctor Heinrich Kruze of the USS Exeter,” Heinrich began, “Hold on tight and we’ll get you out in a short time. Are you sure that you’re all fine in there?”

“Yes, we were surprised too.” The voice said. “We’re starving, we’re thirsty, but other than that…” the voice trailed off.

“Sounds like a miracle.” Heinrich said, “Been seeing those more and more as of late.”

“I, I guess so. Thank you for saving us.”

“We’re just doing what we can."
