Tyrek straightened his posture.

"Heinrich, I have come to consider you a friend and as such let me give you some friendly advice. There is nothing you owe anyone, The only person in this life you owe anything to is yourself and I promise you if you take care of that the rest will work itself out." Tyrek said with a smile.

"So if you have the desire to share anything with me or anyone else, do it out of choice and not…" Tyrek paused as he searched his mind for the correct term to use.

"Self imposed obligation.”

Heinrich nodded. “Thanks, friend.”

(Reply Tyrek)

Heinrich didn’t know whether to proceed. He felt as if there were an enormous burden fastened to his chest that could only be removed by words. Not the words of an inner monologue, but spoken words. He needed to hear what was lodged in his heart and he needed someone else to hear it too. Someone he could trust, who could offer reassurance and counsel. But it had been so long since he even allowed himself to think about what had happened, the memories had only made themselves known in dreams. Blossoming unwanted like a weed out of the crack of a sidewalk.

Before he could say anything the bartender returned with his drink. “Here you go, can I get you anything else?

“No, thanks.”

When she walked away Heinrich wrapped his hands around his glass like he were holding onto a warm mug of coffee. “So the script that we were given had written down perhaps the worst day of my life. No, certainly the worst day of my life.” He took a sip of his cocktail and continued, “Before I joined Starfleet I had my own practice back on Alpha 5. It was good work. I was well liked. Well respected. I always had a little bit of the wanderlust in me but I was able to let it go and settle down in my home colony. One night, while I was working emergency services there was a girl that came in, bad overdose from some chemicals. I did my best to save her but I just couldn’t. That was hard, but I later came to recognize that the chemicals that killed her came out of my own clinic. It was my… negligence that led to her death.”

(Reply Tyrek)

“That’s, more or less, what I was expected to act out in front of everyone. I was wild. I tried to get to the producer to stop the show. But before I could we were all transported to yet another reality by the Q where we were made to face trials. Each trial included two crew members, and each was unique.”

(Reply Tyrek)

“In my case, I was being tested along with some pilot. I forget the name,” he lied, “But it was, in a manner, a reenactment of that night. The pilot was made to suffer, unless I would confess my own negligence.”

(Reply Tyrek)

Heinrich took another drink from his old fashioned. “Eventually I did, and it was over. Thankfully. It’s all over…” He said trying to reassure himself.
