(USS Exeter - FO's Office - CSO Lieutenant Erin Cortez- 0927)


“What you’re talking about is working cross department, building up your
skillset so that on away missions you can act, if need be in a support
capacity to other team members?”


"Exactly that, Sir. Another feather to my bow so to speak." Erin replied
honestly.


“I like your thinking; as much as we spend how long training to do mission
specific roles, sometimes there’s a situation that warrants someone that
can say…act as a back up pilot because all the others are tied up, and we
need two shuttles to the surface in a plasma storm?” He raised an eyebrow
as he looked at Lieutenant Cortez.


Erin blushed slightly as the memory of that mission flashed before her.
"You heard about that?"


“Yes, don't be so surprised, I read most people’s files. Call me nosy.” He
shrugged. “I like it. Your first role is and always will be Science of
course, especially on away teams where you will always be expected to fill
the role as science specialist due to your position as CSO. Fail in that
more than once and we’ll have a conversation about dereliction of duty.” He
looked at her, raising his eyebrows. “Fair?”


"Most certainly. To be honest, Sir, I had never thought about pilot
training. My instinct was medical because of my past incarnation as a
counsellor but pilot training could be interesting. " Erin paused for a
moment and sighed slightly.

"Just wondering how to proceed with this. I know I can talk to Lieutenant
Kruze and see if he would be willing to either train me himself or ask one
of his colleagues to do it. As for pilot training… no idea with that one."

Erin nodded as he spoke. ~Wonder if we will get chance to catch lunch
again?~ She thought to herself. Truth be told she had missed their
lunchtime dates the past couple of days.


"Okay, I can do that Sir." Erin replied forcing herself mentally back in
the room with a smile.
