“Well, the obvious answer is that the more radiation there is the more
malignant symptoms. But something tells me the periods of malignancy you’re
seeing don’t exactly line up with the cycles Lieutenant Cortez found?”
“They don’t, and I agree, that’s the simple logic, but there’s something
wrong, it doesn’t follow T’kal’s exposure/symptom coefficient.” Ailynn said
irritably.
“Is it possible that there are multiple sources of radiation, and we
haven’t been able to isolate them? So when one wanes, another waxes.
Sometimes the more beneficial radiation comes through, other times it’s
occluded.”
Bella spoke up, unafraid of having her voice heard amongst far more able
and gifted officers than she ever had. “I’ve nearly narrowed down the
sources and mechanism for the nebulonic Radiation, but every simulation
comes up empty as to a single point of origin.”
"I think Ensign Parker has a very good point there. Multiple sources would
make some sense. It's now a case of isolating them and timing the
collection of the beneficial radiation so that those collecting it do not
get affected."
Ailynn nodded, her brow contorted, forcing her entire intellect into one
direction. She waved her hand, knowing that Erin understood her manner,
wanting her to continue speaking.
"If we can isolate the sources, we should be able to tie in our data so we
can time the collection and get you a schedule, if you would like us to?"
Bella looked at Commander Bracken, at her first meeting she’d taken her for
an officer happy to live by her reputation, carefree and with a frankly
disgusting ignorance of higher rank and position. Now though she saw a
completely different side. A woman, able as she was, bending her entire
intellect to a problem that faced them, she could see the annoyance that
the issue held for her, Bella could see that despite the playful exterior,
beated the heart of an Officer that was so committed, it would put most to
shame. Thinking about the Legion of Honour at her collar, that was a
decoration, that even when nominated by a friend, and fellow Officer, was
subject to the most stringent and strictest possible oversight.
“Dammit Cortez what am I missing? It’s as simple as the nose on your face,
but I can’t bloody see it…AAAARGH!”
(Reply Cortez)
