Mission: Space was cool before it mattered

Day: 2

Stardate: 2446.04.26

(USS Exeter - Personal Quarters - MorOff Ens(sg) Ashlyn Williams - 0204)

Trip then began to relay the dream to Ash. How real it felt, the oddity of
the setting, the dead bodies, the dead bodies being every person who ever
died under his command. How he felt he was being hunted. How he felt
trapped. How somehow, in his dream, he felt that Ravok was behind it. But
then, the revelation was made clear, he was the monster killing the crew.

"And the worst part was honey, the last person I killed, the last person, I
as this murderer killed was adult Ronnie. I, he, slit her throat right in
front of me. I was helpless to do anything."

Ash nodded silently, keeping her hand on his arm. “That must have been
terrifying for you.” She said gently, letting him talk his feelings out.

"It's as if my subconcious was firing up every ounce of guilt I ever felt
for those lives lost and threw it in my face. And the worst part was, the
joy I, err he, err the other me felt and killing Ronnie. And as I awoke, it
just ..... could I have done more, should I have done more to restore
Ronnie or did I go along with the mind wipe because selfishly the thought
of having her as my daughter in a truer sense seemed too good to be true.
Too good to pass up.”

“Trip,” She said “Our dreams, and indeed nightmares, are simply a
collection of ‘old data’ that your sleeping brain is trying to make sense
of and file away in your longer term memory the important things, and help
discard the stuff you don’t need. It’s a little more complex with Empaths
as you appreciate, you get associated feelings too, which makes dreams and
indeed nightmares that more visceral.”

(Reply Trip)

“In and themselves, dreams don’t mean anything, our problem is that while
REM sleep, is a very deep sleep phase all too often we wake up from this as
it’s the highest point of brain activity.”

(Reply Trip)

“Hey, be nice.” She smiled at him, “Behavioural Psychologist remember?” she
gently nudged him. It wasn’t often, ever really that she really put herself
forward in any professional capacity, and when she had it had only been to
talk to Trip, or Ailynn about things that had been bothering them.
