Mission: Space was cool before it mattered
Day: 2
Stardate: 2446.04.26

(USS Tom Kazansky - Shuttle Bay 1 - SO Lieutenant T'Gema Vaxis- 0506)

" I'm glad you understand the topic has its ccomplexities. " She looked at
the vessel next to them in the bay " I myself am only half Romulan as well.
My other half is Terran. For what it matters, I'm sorry you were denied
your desires to be a symbol of unity. "

"at that age, I didn't give two cares about unity. I wanted to be in
Starfleet to escape my parents and to be somewhere where I could explore
who I was away from my mixed heritage...Now though, now I am a true
believer." He replied.

" However, I believe We Romulans have not lost our identity, we are still
those who marched beneath the raptors wings. If the empire would have been
led with competence and effective directives, we as a people wouldn't have
been left in the state that we are in. Seeking equality ? " T'Gema shook
her head. " No, we nearly brought the Alpha quadrant to heel. That
potential and level of ambition doesn't go away. Sure it will get diluted,
but the only way reunification will truly happen is if the Romulan people
allow the Romulan way to truly die. The founder of the Romulan way, S'task
argued that the galaxy was an inherently hostile place, and the only way to
meet it was from a position of strength; Surak argued just as fervently in
favor of peace. This is the sole difference between Vulcans and Romulans.
Not the suppression or embracing of our emotions, not a reliance on logic.
Both sides will have to surrender who they are to the point where they are
no longer who they were. Will Vulcans be so willing? Will we ? " T'Gema
concluded.

T'Rix nodded.

" That's why I'm a scientist, politics and philosophical views don't matter
in the never ending quest of absolute truth. " She laughed slightly. "
So…You're a marine ? Must be a hard life."

"Depends on the day. Starfleet is still Starfleet and the chairs are still
comfy as hell." T'Rix sighed. "I think you illustrated my point however.
The path to true union isn't the mythical Ni'Var. It's as part of the
greater whole, as part of the Federation. Numerous member worlds, numerous
species. Yet none asked to give up their identity, their culture, their
being. Unity in diversity. The Empire nearly brought the alpha quadrant to
heel, yes. But it never could. Have you ever wondered why?"

(Reply T'Gema)

"Have you ever wondered that perhaps are ways are what caused our downfall
from the very start? Had we not caused war with Earth centuries ago, would
the Federation even form. It was a united front against us that brought
Andor, Earth, Vulcan, and Tellar Prime together. Had we not been prideful,
egotistical, illogical, would the empire's greatest enemy just simply not
exist? A union of altruism and hope, duty and sacrifice, that even defended
their once enemies, the Klingons, to the point where the later part of the
last century, the quadrants where dominated by a Klingon and Federation
Alliance. That even against the Alpha Quadrant's greatest threat, the
Dominion, the only hope of victory was to join forces with those we called
enemy."

(Reply T'Gema)

"Reunification will fail, our people will never have the voice they
deserve, if we are outside the Federation. If the Republic were to apply
for membership, we'd have an equal voice, our culture would be protected,
we would not need to give up our way of life. It is the only logical step
forward."
