Mission: Space was cool before it mattered
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.04.25

(USS Exeter - Medical Sciences Lab - ACMO, Ensign Dural Methor DrPH - 1409)

“Lives…” She corrected absently, “but yes I take your point…she sighed.
“You’re correct, of course.”
~Life in the broader sense of the word could cover more than one life.~
Dural countered in his own mind, but kept it to himself not wanting to
cause a more heated discussion.

"First, do no harm." Dural quoted a line from the Hippocratic Oath, knowing
full well Ailynn knew it just as well as he.

Ailynn tightened her eyes for a moment, “These miners…they would have had a
full biosweep check before this posting yes?”

"It would be standard procedure. For Federation miners and civilian
contractors alike, but for different reasons." Dural answered.

“Get hold of it, and cross reference anything you can…” she stopped closing
her eyes, and holding up a hand in apology. “…I’m telling you to do your
job. My apologies.” She smiled gently in apology.

"I see it as a collaboration of thought," Dural smiled, knowing she meant
well. "It's difficult throwing off the shackles, yokes or crowns of former
identities. I had a similar issue when I went back to Cardassia on
sabbatical, after I had graduated from the academy. I found myself falling
back into the same routine I had eight years prior, the orphan they *allowed
*into military service. I had to cast those shackles aside, show them who I
was now. The Doctor and Starfleet Officer."

(Reply Bracken)

"I wore shackles and gladly cast them aside, though you're used to wearing
the crown of being in charge, especially in this setting, these people. It
can be hard to put down." Dural said.

(Reply Bracken)

"If I understand the rules right, you can be again. We both know Captain
Williams would take you back in a heartbeat, but that's not what you are
now. You're here to oversee a project that could have ramifications for
hundreds of worlds, literally hundreds of billions of sentient beings. Be
that Doctor Bracken."

(Reply Bracken)

"If it needs to be said, my ego is not bruised from taking advice from
Starfleet's designated Medical Observer." Dural finished with a smile.

(Reply Bracken)

"It is good to see an old friend." Dural turned to the nearby station, but
continued to speak. " If you have some time I should show you the painting
I got from Sytuk." Dural said, bringing up the files Ailynn was talking
about earlier.

(Reply Bracken)

"That surprises you?" Dural chuckled, "he's quite an avid artist actually."

"There will always be those who mean to do us harm. To stop them, we risk
awakening the same evil within ourselves. Our first instinct is to seek
revenge when those we love are taken from us, but that's not who we are." -
Captain James T. Kirk
