Mission: Andromeda's Chain

Day: 1

Stardate: 2446.01.03

(USS Exeter - service ducts - Lieutenant Greta Smith- 0505)

“Well done lieutenant.” Ailynn said gently. “Now, we’re at the entrance to
the ducts. Its a few decks down, and some of it goes down enough to maim or
indeed kill if we slip, so go easy. I’d rather take twice as long, and risk
capture than rush and have even more people lost or hurt.”

"I Concur, Ma'am. I'll go first. Can't have you in danger, can we?" Greta
replied with a wink as she began the descent.

(USS Exeter - Service Ducts, Deck 7 - Lieutenant Greta Smith - 0516)

“Okay, so Greta, this is going to take timing, they will have locked down
sickbay, but if we can get into the ante rooms next to the entrance we may
be able to slip through. I really wish this wasn’t necessary.”

"Me either. Especially with what your brother broadcast all over the ship."
She replied, glancing back at the Commander with a sad look in her eyes.

Ailynn nodded and sighed. “‘G’, my brother is many things, his bedside
manner needs work, and his tendency to be overly gruff does get peoples
hackles up. However, what you heard earlier, although true, the Gabe I
know, and love as a half-brother, would never in my wildest dreams do what
he did. It goes against his every vow as a Doctor. Beyond that, he would
never dare incur my wrath in the manner he has, he would never upset Ronnie
the way I know that he has, and when Trip gets hold of him...well. Enough
said. Billy too, I’ve known him a long time, and he is simply not capable
of this. No...something is badly wrong, and I just know that some answers
are in Gabe’s mind.”

"Have to say, that if it were me, I wouldn't be so polite about it."

“At the moment I’ll settle for ripping it out of his skull with my bare
hands, but a scan and possible biopsy will suffice.” Ailynn half joked as
the exited the hatch into the corridor. “Entrance to sickbay is just down
here.”

Greta nodded, keeping her phaser in hand as they walked. Her mind a whir
with possibilities. Suddenly, Ailynn grabbed Greta and pulled her into a
small alcove.

“We have company, Sickbay is just round this corner and a patrol is coming
this way. I need options.”

"It's simple. You stay here. Let me go take care of this."

“Greta, I can’t ask you to do this,” Ailynn replied. Smiling softly, Greta
handed her her phaser and said, "Who's asking? I offered. Now, and in the
politest way possible, stay the heck here."

(Reply Bracken)

Greta nodded and walked around the corner to see the two security officers
a couple of feet in front of her. Realising they were both armed, Greta
knew this wasn’t going to be easy.

Smiling, she stepped towards them, "Hey boys, what's cooking?"

The two men turned and looked at her. There was a moment of silence as they
all looked at each other, neither them or Greta knew exactly what to do.
She could see they were unsure about whether she was with them or not.

Without a second thought, Greta threw a punch that landed squarely on the
jaw of man number one who tumbled backwards against the wall of the
corridor. As she shifted her weight, man number two barrelled into her,
pushing her against the opposite wall.

Wincing as she crashed into the wall, Greta swiftly brought her knee up and
connected with his middle, causing him to double over in pain. As he did,
she raised her arm and sent her elbow hard and fast onto the side of his
head, knocking him out cold.

As he fell to the floor, she turned back to man number one who came at her
fast. Ducking a badly thrown punch, she swiftly kicked his knee out from
under him and they both fell to the floor. As he reached for his phaser,
she kicked it away down the corridor and glanced back as a sharp pain hit
her side. Feeling adrenaline surging through her, she balled up her fist,
threw a swift right hook to the underside of his jaw, knocking him out.

Taking a deep breath, she stood and felt the pain again in her side. Her
hand flew to the area and she looked down. "Oh… that's not good."

Stumbling back around the corner, she knew that her face was growing pale.
As she approached Commander Bracken, she smiled softly as she saw another
officer with her. "Oh… we having a party?"

Greta blinked slightly, her hearing was a little muffled as they spoke and
she leant against the wall near them. Holding out her hand, which was now
covered with a dark red slick glove, she looked at them both and said, "I
may need a new uniform."
