(USS Exeter – Engineering Maintenance Access - ACEO Lieutenant Janice Hammerfield – 0502)
" They have 9 hostages in Engineering. The assistant chief of operations killed Ensign Kulyn...shot him dead right in front of us. " Moxley said with sadness in his voice that flowed into anger.
" Sir , We need to find as many people as possible. Deck 8 is the main security deck. The people who stormed engineering were all security officers. Heading to deck 8 could be a death trap. But if we climb to deck 7, the medical deck , we should be able to access a power conduit interface under the floor just inside the chief medical officer's office. I was in there a few days ago recalibrating the power flow to correct a problem they were having in the brig. With a little tampering he could disrupt power to a good portion of the security center. "
"Damn... Kulyn,” Janice shook her head and then focused on the rest of what Moxley was saying, “How much collateral are we talking about for it? We’ll need to make sure they don’t have a chance to get them back up at all.”
" We would have to blow the conduit , by overloading the isolinear mounts on the surrounding relays. We blow that thing and they would lose primary power internal sensors and even forcefield capabilities in the holding cells. One of us has to do it, everyone else can drop into the armory on deck 8 load up with all the remaining fire power we can find. Once the primary power is down we take the deck by force. Problem is we can't tell who is friend or enemy. " Moxley explained as fast as he could.
“That is going to be a problem – I wouldn’t be surprised if you see anyone with a com badge as a target. They will want to stop us from talking,” Janice added thinking about the plan.
" It's just a suggestion, but I could blow the conduit .I'm just an engineer, I'm not a fighter. You could take the armoury and take the fight to them. " Ensign Moxley concluded.
"Brightwoods good - hes on his way to medical keep an eye out for him. You’re plan is sound to me – we need to get them out and time is not on our side. How long do you think it will take just you to set it up to blow?”
(reply Moxley)
“Ok here’s the plan. Get up there rig it to blow at 0545. I need to get into position to cover everyone getting out and over to the armoury. They are going to have that locked down tight.” Janice thought about the desk layout and pulled out her padd pulling up the armoury showing Moxley. “Im going to enter here at access tube J-9. If im lucky they are too busy dealing with everyone else to notice me come out onto the firing range. I can hit them from behind and work through to the holding cells.”
(reply Moxley)
“Once you blow those conduits make your way to the antimatter reactor – Engage the safety overrides and shut it down so we are on backups. We want them as off balance as we can get. I want you to get away from here ASAP if this goes wrong I don’t want you caught with me.” Janice looked at him knowing he was exactly what he said – an engineer. Fortunately Janice moved across to that from tactical.
(reply Moxley)
Sliding her padd away Janice opened a panel to a power backup system and pulled out a set of power cells out of it carefully. “These will come in handy,” Setting them down she ripped off of her uniform sleeve slid them both into it and knotted both ends.
(reply Moxley)
“0545 mister – and good luck,”
(reply Moxley)
