(Runabout Muskogee - Tactical Ensign jg Jori - 0405)
"The off-the-books plan, or the game plan as you put it, Lieutenant, is to not do anything to get ourselves killed," said Shara.
Jori still wasn't sure what to make of all this. Technically, she had everything she needed to do her job, but her innate curiosity demanded more. She supposed she could say something, but if Shara had anything else to tell, he probably would have informed them by now. It was also possible he was in the dark, too.
She really needed to work on not over-thinking everything.
Since the ship was running smoothly, Jori had a task to complete. Excusing herself from her station, she made her way to the storage area on the runabout. Shara had ordered her to check all the weapons to insure they were functional and ready. Of course they would be, as the support teams would have done this, but it didn't hurt to do it again. Besides, keeping her occupied with busy work, should take her mind off being so nervous.
Once she had inspected the phasers and extra power packs, Jori decided to look at what else they had on board. A niggling feeling had spread through her, causing her to feel, no need, to inventory everything, especially the survival gear.
Staring at the emergency rations, her stomach tumbling like a ball rolling down a hill, a realization struck her. If the time line from the Quella ordeal was intact and linear, she had done this very thing just hours ago when she was stranded on a planet with Ire Williams. They hadn't gone through the full experience, as they had been sent back, but the emotions of what was ahead of them, and the possibility their judge could have left them stranded, were rushing through her.
She was puzzled over why this was bothering her. Training in security and tactical at the academy had been tough, and she and her classmates had experienced many dire situations. She knew she was prepared and capable. Maybe it was nothing more than this being her first, true mission.
Closing her eyes and taking a cleansing breath, Jori went back to work.
