(Toronto, Canada -Car on the way to Metro Toronto Convention Centre - CSO
Lt Erin Cortez/Genevieve Rhodes - 0900)
Sitting in the car as it drove through the landscape that appeared to be
the city of Toronto, Erin looked out of the window. ~This is just crazy.
How has this happened? Everything appears to be right for the time period
we are supposedly in but still, how are we here?~ she thought to herself as
the car snaked its way through traffic.
She looked over at Ravok who had been silent for most of the journey.
Barely a word spoken between the two of them since they had gotten in the
car. Erin knew that he was scared. That alone was scaring her. She had
never seen the man who she called her brother as scared as he was right
now. He was always the one who she leant on for support and now, he was not
talking. Sighing, she glanced forward and caught sight of some sort of
small paper book on the dashboard of the car.
“Er…. Cliff?” she asked. The driver had given his name as they had gotten
into the car. A small mercy she was thankful for so she did not have to try
and bluff her way.
“Yes, Miss Rhodes?”
“That… “ she paused a second as her mind searched for the right word, “...
magazine?”
“Oh that. My daughter is a bit of a fan and i was going to ask if you would
sign it for her?”
“Sure. Can i take a look first? Didn’t get a chance to see it yet.” She
smiled. Cliff, the burly, bald driver handed it back to her and said,
“Sure, take a look. There’s a pen somewhere in the back too, if you…”
Taking the magazine out of his hand, Erin fixed a grin on her face as she
looked at the photograph of her gracing the front cover. Her eyes widened a
little, “No, of course.”
Leaning back in the seat, Erin flipped to the page that held what purported
to be an interview with Genevieve Rhodes and began to read,
Chat with Genevieve Rhodes
As told to Susanne McHorden
SH: So, Genevieve…
GR: How many times? Gen.
SH: Sorry, So Gen, how's life currently?
GR: Good. Bit jet lagged but otherwise good.
SH: You just got back from Australia right?
GR: Yeah, spent a week out there.
SH: With that cute boyfriend of yours?
GR: *Chuckles* Yes, with Kyle.
SH: How is Kyle (Kyle Ravine)
GR: He's great. We spent a week out there, just travelling and sleeping
mainly. Being on the show (USS EXETER) is hectic. Was really good to just
reconnect again.
SH: You two seem to be getting serious. There's been rumours of a certain
question being asked soon?
GR: I wouldn't know anything about that. You'd have to ask Kyle.
SH: Oh we tried. He is just like his character on the show. (Lt. Cmdr Ravok
Shara). Keeps secrets well.
GR: That he does. It took him ages to even let me know he liked me. Never
had any clue.
SH: Touching on that, how did he ask you out?
GR: Wow… well, if I remember rightly… he told me that the cast were meeting
for a dinner at a restaurant close to the studio. When I turned up, there
was only him.
He had rented out the whole restaurant.
SH: Aw. That's so romantic.
GR: He really is unlike any guy I have met. He doesn't care about my past.
SH: You have had quite a checkered past. But, that's one thing people seem
to latch onto with you. You make no apologies for anything.
GR: That's right. We all have a past. It's part of us. We shouldn't be
ashamed of what we did. It makes us who we are today.
SH: It's interesting you should say that. Such a different viewpoint to
your character, Erin Cortez.
GR: Yeah. There was a lot of talk when I was offered the role. People
wondered how I was going to be able to tackle a role of someone who had
been through so much.
SH: Well, you did. And people seem to really love your portrayal.
GR: Well, thanks. It's good for me too. It's led me to be more open about
my past in the press. I am what I am.
SH: There was a photograph that surfaced a year ago. Can you tell us about
that?
GR: Oh that thing. At least I looked good in it.
SH: You did. I bet Kyle loved it.
GR: I got teased mercilessly for that one. Although now he kind of likes
the Las Vegas show girl thing.
SH: Tell us about the photo.
GR: Short version, I spent a short stint as a showgirl just after I got to
Las Vegas. Didn't last long because I got fired for sleeping with the lead
of the show. The guy in the photo.
SH: And that led to a bit of a 'wild child' moment for you?
GR: In a way. I was hardly a child but, yes. I did go out, partied hard and
got into situations that I shouldn’t have done.
SH: And now, when you're not acting or spending time with Kyle, what do you
do?
GR: Don't get me wrong, I still like to party. Just do it in the right way
now. I learnt the hard way how not to do things. But I'm glad that I did.
Just like Erin on the show is learning that you can't hide from your past,
I don’t. It has led to some interesting discussions on panels at
conventions.
SH: That does seem to be a passion of yours, the convention circuit.
GR: I love it. A chance to meet people, to connect with the fans of the
show and to just have fun. The photo ops are the best. Some wacky poses go
on. I'm down for pretty much anything.
SH: I've heard that the Kyle and Gen duo ops are always a big seller.
GR: We love to have fun with it.
SH: Back to the show, how is it watching Kyle do those romantic scenes with
Anna? (Keira Merek)?
GR: I love watching those two. They have a lot of fun. Really? It's fine.
It's all a show. That and I know where he sleeps.
SH: That's true. *laughs*
GR: Our dogs love me. He knows that they are both mommy’s boys.
SH: So, anything else we should know about Gen and/or what the future holds?
GR: Oh… er… Well, for me, the future is good. For Erin? Who knows. I hope
the writers let her off a bit next season. She's had a rough time. Would be
nice to have some romance on the show or even some comedy?
SH: Give Kyle a taste of his own medicine? Get Erin some steamy love scenes?
GR: Yeah, why not?
SH: Thanks for your time, Gen. You'll let us know if that question gets
asked I hope?
GR: After my mom and dad, you'll be the first one I call.
Closing the magazine, Erin caught sight once again of the photograph on the
cover. It was her, but not her. She looked happy, smiling and full of life.
~Well, at least somewhere one of us is happy, loved and appreciated.~ she
thought to herself as the car pulled up to the Convention Centre.
